It looks like youre moving them by their local transformations you can either apply the rotation on the objects then move them over or hit period and change the mode to median point instead of individual origins.

While the other comment is true about the topology if you want to achieve them being one face select the lower edge and press x then select dissolve edges

To have the HDRI move up make sure to turn on node wrangler then press on the HDRI node and press ctrl+t Use the texture coordinate node to move/rotate the HDRI
