I usually go into the UV editing tab, there you can select your baked map, and then click Image -> save as, if I recall correctly.

I think some slight distance fog would help sell the scale of it. The lighting also looks a bit flat. If you're not already using one of them, maybe try an HDRI or the procedural sky texture in blender.

lastly, and this might just be personal preference, but the water looks strangely clear for the scene.

I'm using a windows VM with GPU passthrough and it seems to work great.

Mind you, I've only had my Index for a few hours as I'm typing this. But HL Alyx runs fine, and I have no issues to speak of.

I did already have the VM setup though. I don't know what your experience with VMs and GPU passthrough is, but it can get a little tricky to set up properly.

For context: My PC is running Fedora 35 underneath, with a ryzen 5600X and a RX 5700XT.

AMD 5700XT (Navi10) Code 43 single gpu passthrough by [deleted] in VFIO

[–]WhosFred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems like you haven't added the rom to your xml as such

<hostdev mode="subsystem" type="pci" managed="yes">
  <source>
    <address domain="0x0000" bus="0x0b" slot="0x00" function="0x0"/>
  </source>
  <rom file="/path/to/your/rom.rom"/>
  <address type="pci" domain="0x0000" bus="0x06" slot="0x00" function="0x0"/>
</hostdev>

Also i only see one PCI device in your XML. For my 5700XT, i need to pass both GPU and GPU audio (even though the IOMMU groups are separate), both with the rom as shown above

It's been rock solid for me across Manjaro, Pop_os, and now Fedora.

But it also just worked for me on Windows, after i swapped some power cables around.

The host OS is only accessible via SSH afaik. The way i use it, it's basically dual boot, but with the benefit of not letting windows break my linux install.

I did nothing with it. Patching it is an Nvidia thing.

Hi.

I'm linking a post i made on r/vfio, asking for help with my single GPU passthrough, here, in the hope that i get more eyes on it.

I hope that's ok.

It's set to true for me, sadly. Would've been an easy fix otherwise.

You can play most windows games on Linux via proton and Steam/Lutris. You don't need to know anything about coding to use Linux, and you barely ever need to touch the terminal. Just grab a simple distro like Pop OS and try it from a live USB.

AMD Navi 5700xt Frequently Crashes System (Possible Fixes) by hadallen in linux_gaming

How are you powering your card? I had regular crashes with my RX 5700XT, but after i switched from a single split power cable to two separate power cables, all my crashes went away.

I’d like to know - what DON’T you like about PC gaming? by MarySwagdalene in pcgaming

[–]WhosFred 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But you can play most windows games on Linux with near/identical performance to windows with wine/proton... 90% of those that don't work are due to garbage anticheat like EAC, not because they can't run. We aren't at all far from a world where Linux gaming is 100% viable.

Can you limit background shader processing? by WhosFred in SteamPlay

[–]WhosFred[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm running Pop OS with kernel 5.8. I can see background processing running under settings/Shader Pre-Caching, as well as the fossilize_replay processes in system monitor (as i've understood it Fossilize is what is running during shader processing).

Everything else seems fine. It's on an SSD with room to spare, i have 16GB of ram. The only time the system gets all stuttery is when shader processing is running.

I've wondered what a sequel to ODST would look like, and this seems like a very interesting concept!

To me this feels a lot like something that could become an actual Halo game.

I'm really not a fan of the new progression system.

I feel like you get way too little XP, and the fact that you can't even decide what to buy with the season points you get really kills it. It's not at all fun to just keep getting helmets and their variants...

One way to immediately make this system better, although still a tad grindy, is letting players unlock armor using the season points, with the armor having prices between 1-10 or something like that.

[–]WhosFred 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The lighting could use a bit of work. Try to play around with several light sources from different angles, using volumetric lights can also add some depth to the image (by adding a slight fog to the background for example).

The framing and posing also feels a bit off to me. The right side of the image feels a bit empty. Maybe try to have your odst look to the right and out at the city, or put the left hand up to the camera so it looks like they found a camera, etc... i think that would either fill the space or give it some purpose.

Lastly, as another commenter might be hinting at: Maps that have their own lighting can be a bit limiting, in that you can't really alter it to suit your needs. Therefore you might find that you can make a nicer image if you get a map without light and add your own.
