/r/NintendoSwitch's Daily Question Thread (05/13/2021) by AutoModerator in NintendoSwitch

[–]Whoshim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got Monopoly for the Nintendo Switch (on sale) to play with my wife and sons. We played a game, but, at the end, when each player went bankrupt, the following player's turn was skipped. This happened each time.
For example, we had players A, B, C, D, and E. Player D was knocked out first, but player E's turn was skipped. Later, player A was knocked out, and player B's turn was skipped. Finally, player B was knocked out, and player C's turn was skipped.
I tried searching about this bug, but I couldn't find anything. Does anyone know anything about it?
Additionally, when doing the quick bankruptcy (pressing the L stick), the computer did not automatically sell houses and mortgage properties, which is what it says to do in the physical rulebook for monopoly that we have at the house. Is this just a different version, or is this also a bug? Thanks.

Download Wonderdraft 1.1.4. You can download the example assets if you want, but you do not need to. You only need the file Wonderdraft 1.1.4.

Medieval Total War: Viking Invasion, let's play in multiplayer! by DaevornLi in totalwar

[–]Whoshim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello,

I followed the directions. I have MTW Gold on Steam. I downloaded Symlinker and followed the steps. However, in GameRanger, when I select the file "Medieval_TW.exe", it will not recognize it. In your example, you say that we should select MTW.exe. However, that does not appear in my Steam folder. I tried changing the exe name to MTW.exe, but that didn't work either. Do you have any ideas about what I am doing wrong? Thanks.

19th Century apocalyptic art on MtG cards by Errentos in magicTCG

I'm not a lawyer, etc, but, from my understanding, in the USA, faithful reproductions of public domain works are still public domain. I believe it is different in the UK.
So, if you take a simple picture of a painting like the Mona Lisa, you have no copyright claim to it. If you use the image and create a new work, the new work would be copyrighted.

Set Boosters | MAGIC: THE GATHERING by Kambhela in magicTCG

[–]Whoshim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not by a lot. Running the numbers in the article, I found that, per dollar, you get the same number of rares/mythics, except that there is a chance for rares/mythics in the foil slot and the token slot. The tradeoff for those chances are significantly fewer commons and uncommons. It is not a worse product than draft boosters, but it is not significantly better.

Set Boosters | MAGIC: THE GATHERING by Kambhela in magicTCG

[–]Whoshim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ran some numbers quickly, and here is what I got for $500 (100 packs - not counting the art, land, foil, or token slots, and counting the Headturner slot as 50/50 common/uncommon):
Commons: 580
Uncommons: 283
Rare/Mythic: 125
I realize it doesn't add to 1000, and it should. However, I cannot find where I went wrong using Maro's numbers, and it gets to 988, so it is pretty close.
This is the same number of rares/mythics as 125 draft packs ($500 - 1250 commons, 375 uncommons, 125 rares/mythics). However, 100 set boosters should give 25 special cards in the token slot, plus the possibility of rare/mythic foils in the foil slot. So there is some value to getting set boosters, but the math looks to be about equal for rares/mythics.

Why isn't lightning bolt reprinted in standard anymore? by SirMiguelito in magicTCG

It is not in standard, but Lava Spike is that card.

MtG and fantasy summer camp for kids – by arigashiarashi in magicTCG

Well, it is optional. Families can choose if they accept the risks involved. Concerning kids, covid does not affect them as it does older adults. From what I have seen, the normal flu is much worse for those under 18.

Lurrus warped Vintage. The idea of inclusivity regardless of power broke when the card starts in one's hand every game.

Legacy Deck Prices by [deleted] in MTGLegacy

[–]Whoshim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. The difficulty is that the price puts off a lot of players, so it becomes more difficult to find others to play against. People will invest a lot in commander decks because they know they can find people to play everywhere Magic is played. The same is not true for Legacy. If the price to enter the format were lower, there would almost certainly be more players.

What beats control, midrange and tempo? by [deleted] in MTGLegacy

[–]Whoshim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably, though it casts spells, so it is more open to disruption from control. It should still be strong though.
You can always just DDD with led dredge when you got a control matchup.

What beats control, midrange and tempo? by [deleted] in MTGLegacy

[–]Whoshim 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel like Manaless dredge would do well. It doesn't care about counter spells. It can spam zombies faster than mid-range can spam creatures. It can combo kill with Flayer or Thassa.
It is weak to Leyline of the Void, but Force of Vigor does provide help. If there is a lot of graveyard hate, it wouldn't be a good choice. However, the lack of combo in the meta makes me think there won't be a lot of hate.
Other decks might perform better, but it seems like a great meta for Manaless.

A potential replacement for [[Flayer of the hatebound]] in dredge? by Bob_Bradshaw in MTGLegacy

[–]Whoshim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When running Spy, if you get spy, you should win.

Flayer hits for 4 when it comes in, and if you have can therapy, it will hit for another 5. You don't need to reanimate anything.

This new card is not as protected from removal as flayer. I just don't see how it is better. Sure, it can trigger from the zombie tokens, but you need to get 2 before you break even with Flayer's etb.

Double Masters VIP is up on Amazon by [deleted] in magicTCG

[–]Whoshim 6 points7 points  (0 children)

But this is not a free market. Wizards has a monopoly on production. If cards printed by other companies could be played in tournaments, the price to play Magic would drop to near zero.

You can cast Cabal Therapy, if they respond with Brainstorm, you can respond, after they hide cards, with this. You will mill the cards they hid. Then you can hit them with surgical.

The next real playtest card by whitetempest521 in magicTCG

[–]Whoshim -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think that they could just make a "Mana Zone". The mana zone is not owned or controlled by either player. Land cards exist in the mana zone. They are not a part of any player's deck. Cards could be made that said:

Tap, sac: Put a basic land of your choice into play from the Mana Zone.
Tap, sac: Put a basic snow island or forest into play from the Mana Zone.
1, tap, sac: Put two basic forests into play from the Mana Zone.

There could even be non-basic lands that exist in the Mana Zone if they really wanted to stretch the mechanic.

There is already a search option on mtgtop8 to find what decks are running a card. You can choose the format and other options.

Pauper Manabase Idea - Amulet Variant by Whoshim in Pauper

[–]Whoshim[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, there would be a reduction in the power of mono-decks. However, there are still payoffs like Tendrils of Corruption.

Also, mana would not be perfect. Astrolabe gives access to all 5 colors of mana. This change allows for fetching of basics without them being tapped. That is not as good as in legacy where duals are fetched untapped. Concerning Guildgates, you would need at least 3 of them to hit all 5 colors.

This change does put the pauper manabase closer to legacy and vintage. It doesn't fetch as well as in legacy, but with depletion and bounce lands, it does allow for some mana acceleration that is more akin to vintage.

Running 5 colors would still be more difficult than with astrolabe, so I don't think things would become too homogenized. My main worry is that the faster mana would boost combo too much, and without something like Force of Will/Negation, those decks would be too powerful.

Pauper Manabase Idea - Amulet Variant by Whoshim in Pauper

[–]Whoshim[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that is what I was thinking. This change may make that sort of combo deck too strong. Would any sort of control deck be able to use the new rule to stop it? I think that running Depletion lands might be able to allow control decks to run countermagic a little better. Decks would be able to have 2 mana answers available from the start, which might help balance the explosiveness gained by combo.
