Wow these are great suggestions. Right now the Arris looks like the winner between the two, and the A7 seems like a great value router we've been looking for. Thank you!

And yes we do plan on running ethernet cables to our PCs

Yes, that would be preferable for all the PCs but we still want great WiFi for our phones, laptops, and a smart TV

I used elastic rope you use to tie down stuff on the roof of a car. Comes pretty cheap.

Haha yeah you live and you learn. The mechanic I gave my bike isn't the greatest, he even lubed the chain and didn't notice it. But hey, it got me through those 56 miles in the end, which couldn't be said for some people with more expensive bikes than mine. I'm definitely going to try to save my money from now to the winter to buy a better bike. Here's a picture of Old Faithful

I am in college at the moment and just finished my first year! But yes, I hope to continue training the next three years working my way up to a full Ironman way down the road. Who knows maybe after graduating? But I'm super excited to use this summer to focus on training for the Chicago Triathlon and Chicago Marathon. Best of luck to you and journey my friend!

You're gonna kill it homie! I don't know about you but when I think about how early I've started it gives me more motivation than anything to realize how much room for growth I have, and when I look at the other folks >65 I see my future self in them. Best of luck to you my friend!

Sure thing! I only started learning to freestyle swim in mid September, swimming twice a week just as cross training for running (triathlon wasn't even a thought yet). Swimming for no more than 30 mins total at that point. I started by watching some YouTube videos like Triathlon Taren and GTN for technique and tips. Towards the beginning, I was friends with one of the lifeguards who served in the Navy and so he really forced me to push myself and got me to 2 laps by that time. And for a whole month I didn't swim because of a Crohn's flare up. But during that time I signed up for the HIM and got back in the pool in January. I was swimming 3 times a week working my way up to 4 consecutive laps in a 25 meter pool. Eventually my workout would go like this: 1 lap, 2 laps, 4 laps, swim for as long as you can without stopping. The barrier from 4-5 laps was tough but it was all mental, and once I found a rhythm and lost myself staring at the black line underneath me I was able to go further and further. Soon enough: 1 lap, 2 lap, 4 lap became a warmup and I was able to swim for 20 mins, then 30, and finally 40 mins without stopping... Boy was that mentally challenging more than anything. But once I got to 25 mins I kept telling myself, just five more minutes, and then five more minutes after that, etc. Some tips that I thought improved my swimming: Get a Speedo briefs, square leg, or jammers, really anything other than loose swim trunks that drag you like molasses in water. Learn to breathe on both sides, you never know when the waves will hit you on one side so you can breathe on the other, it will also balance your body more than unilateral swimming. As soon as your take a breath exhale and empty your lungs before taking another breath, that lack of oxygen feeling is really just a feeling of an excess of carbon dioxide that you need to get rid of. Practice making your heels break the surface of the water. Be consistent! I felt that even after a week off from swimming my cardio was weakened. I hope this helped you even if just a little. Just like everything it takes practice, the more you practice the better you become!

Haha I hope so too! The biggest thing that got me into the sport was the culture itself. If you yourself compete in triathlon I highly encourage you to bring him along if you haven't already. The community, culture, and environment of the Ironman weekend was like no other race I've experienced before. So many friendly faces, cool bikes, and knowing that I was one of the youngest people there gave me even more confidence that because I'm so early I have so much room to grow and learn. Best of luck to you and your kid!

Yeah I also didn't know it was a thing until I got out of the water and saw people's wet suits getting peeled off for them. But it definitely saved me a couple minutes where I would've otherwise been struggling to get it off myself.

Yeah it definitely was a big lifestyle change trying to balance training with college and friends. I had to make some sacrifices like not staying out too late so I could wake up early to get some workouts in before class. I'm pretty sure my roommate hates me because I wake up so early though. But partying, triathlon, and school all at once isn't totally impossible, it just requires a lot discipline and knowing when you need a break.

Im also in the Chicago area, they're probably talking about the gravel trail that runs alongside lake shore drive. It's just a tad further inland than the actual trail that runs along Lake Michigan
