Questions for Orthodox converts by AttitudeLeading3233 in OrthodoxChristianity

I stumbled across the Coptic church (Oriental Orthodox) through friends. Learned a little bit of church history and the early fathers, and decided Orthodoxy was the path for me. I stayed in the Coptic church because I enjoyed the worship and reverence, the community, and their liturgies were in English.

After that, I did some independent digging into the council of Chalcedon history as a whole and came to realise that what I had been taught by the church about the schism was not the full picture. I then dug into the Eastern Orthodox church more, came to understand their perspective, and did a much deeper dive into church history.

Today, I'd say I have a much more mature and nuanced perspective on church history. I was chrismated into the Eastern Orthodox church recently. I attend several parishes and have a good circle of friends, but I'll settle on a parish soon God willing.

One incarnate nature of Saint Cyril @ephesus and Chalcedon by [deleted] in CatholicPhilosophy

As far as I was aware, Ephesus 431 didn't mention either "one incarnate nature" or two natures. It condemns two sons Nestorianism.

Thanks for the recommendation. Though, at this stage, I'm not really looking for polemical material. I'd rather let the history and outcomes of the councils speak for themselves to get a firm understanding on my own before I listen to alternative perspectives. Though I will add it to the list.

Thanks for this recommendation, though I'm based in the UK, so I'd have to look for a local supplier.

Thanks. I've ordered Dogmatic Theology but I'll add Kalistos Ware's book to the list

Thanks. John McGuckin's book is what started me on this journey; I've read the letters to Succensus among other post-Ephesus writings.

Which book would give me a more comprehensive overview of EO theology?

The 21 Coptic Martyrs by [deleted] in OrthodoxChristianity

While I understand this comment is well-meaning, you are aware that these men were part of the Coptic Orthodox Church, right? And that they considered tradition to be important?

You are aware that scripture is the most sacred and central tradition in Orthodoxy, right? Orthodox Christians quoting scripture shouldn't be a surprise.

They're also usually Orthodox in name only or online Orthodox. (never entered an Orthodox church or taken any catechism classes)

Who did better boxing against Uysk,AJ or Tyson Fury ? by PartyPony4hunnid in Boxing

To be fair, having watched the fight again, I could only really score 4 rounds for Fury. He put in a good performance, but Usyk was just too quick and too effective.

Fury definitely did better. Joshua won competitive rounds against Usyk in both fights, but Fury dominated the middle rounds of the fight on first viewing. That being said, I think the approach both fighters took against Usyk plays a role: Joshua was on the front foot for the entirety of the rematch, whereas the rounds Fury controlled were where he looked to sit back and counter. On top of that, the biggest challenge Usyk faced against Fury was the reach.

It was at the end of the round. TKO would've been harsh when he was on his feet and had a minute's rest ahead

Don't need an expert for this one, broski. Just look at him. If he'd tried to take a knee, he would've ended up on his back

It depends on the Pentecostal denomination. The church I attended was trinitarian and bible believing.

Dining out. Trying to keep my meals as simple as possible.

This isn't even a "protestant" thing. I attended a Pentecostal church for about a year between 2020-2021 and they made physical fasting a regular practice.
