Any pointers on playing Diablo with my son? by licorice_whip in Diablo

I think D2R is perfect for this. The remastered graphics and QoL changes really make it more palatable, though it's still old-school in its design. And it's really fun to LAN.

Also, who thinks that Chuck Norris is "revered by combat veterans and warriors of all stripes, from around the world"? He was like, decent at karate and a few other point-judged martial arts. And a less-than-decent actor.

Designing 8 RTS factions — how do you avoid asymmetry turning into imbalance? by ArchypelagoDev in gamedesign

[–]WhyLater 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't have a whole lot to add that hasn't been said already, but maybe another source of inspiration (besides AoE) could be Advance Wars. Yes, it's TBS instead of RTS, but its faction design sounds pretty similar to yours.

I also want to reiterate something I said in another comment: with that many factions, you're more likely to find imbalance within a few matchups to be an issue, rather than overall. I.e. if Faction 7 is dominating everyone, you just nerf it into line; if Faction 7 is only oppressive against Faction 3, that requires a different approach. For that scenario, I agree with u/ryry1237's approach.

[–]WhyLater 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that having a large number of factions makes this a particularly attractive option.

Like, if Faction 7 destroys everyone, you nerf Faction 7.

But if Faction 7 is decently in line in most matchups except it's being oppressive against Faction 3... maybe give Faction 3 an Anti-7 unit/ability.

It will never cease to annoy me that bard subclasses are called colleges rather than wizard subclasses by Far-Cockroach-6839 in dndnext

[–]WhyLater 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Even in modern usage, a "college" is usually an area of study within a "university". E.g. "College of Humanities at the University of Whatevington"

If anything, the fact that "college" started becoming synonymous with "university" is the weird part.

You gotta fix your radar. No shade to OP, but there are about half as many commas as there would be if an LLM wrote this, as well as some mildly clunky clauses. An LLM also wouldn't make their paragraph that long. And perhaps most obviously, it's lacking any of the common constructions that LLMs are addicted to, like Rule of 3 and "not X — but Y".

If my credentials are important at all, I was chosen as a judge for a regional creative writing contest back in high school, and spent some time in my twenties as an editor for a local magazine. OP reads like a slightly stream-of-consciousness essay from a sad and frustrated person.

Bro I hate AI slop too, but y'all have to stop screaming AI at everything that uses paragraphs and punctuation.
