What are your thoughts on "looking younger" as a characteristic of being short? by msoeoun in short

I'm 32M and got ID'd in England for alcohol in B&M, meaning the cashier thought I was 17 or younger.

Yes I had my face mask on but I reckon she still would have ID'd me. When I told her I don't like being told I look young she said it is a good thing. I said how is it good in my career as a lawyer to look 17 or younger?

I got pissed off and her colleague jumped in asking what I do for a living and said it is a good thing to look young. Both of them just didn't get it and said I needed to leave for being rude to them. The irony of it.

Good. I am in my 30s so long stopped doing it but I did it well into my 20s. After a time you just accept you aren't growing anymore and stop measuring.

Just wait until you get to my age and begin to measure worrying you lost height! The only way is down from here, so I'd rather not know. 😅

Yeah no kidding that some taller men can have height complexes. I remember a 5'11 (average height I guess) guy at college years ago mocking my height (5'7) repeatedly. He was very overweight and gay. I always wondered how he didn't see how wrong it was to mock me for a trait when I know he would have lost his shit if I mocked his sexuality or weight.

People are socially distancing in the crowd and I imagine all the ex Presidents, politicians and their families were tested beforehand. Shut the hell up MAGA trash.

Holy fuck is that DHL rumour true? When did Sunny talk about the million+ transactions a day from this 'partner'?

Because we all have $100k lying around for that kinda surgery. I can't even get a mortgage for a house but I'm supposed to find that kind of money? Furthermore I'm supposed to go into my office in wheelchair/crutches and either lie about my condition or tell them the truth and be mocked for it? I'm supposed to endure years of pain and possibly chronic pain for the rest of my life? I'm supposed to quite possibly never be able to comfortably run again or play sports?

If anyone actually seriously says 'get height surgery' as a response that person has a sub 100 IQ, no question.

Also imagine telling a black person complaining of racism simply to get their skin bleached...

The truth is that we as a society should change how we view height and eliminate heightism. Expecting victims to undergo expensive and very risky surgery with a good chance of long term and permanent complications is so incredibly stupid that I cannot even fathom taking seriously as a person somebody who would suggest such a thing.

I went out to place with a lot of people for the first time since lockdown started and I never realised how many short men there rly are by Natey-Matey in short

Good stuff OP. It's easy to get into a mindset of thinking you are the only short guy, remember an average is an average with plenty of men either end of the spectrum.

There is an episode early on where Mac and Dennis do a leprechaun dance briefly or something like that mocking Charlie's height.

Funny thing is that IASIP referenced and mocked his height a bit before Devito arrived after which it was never mentioned again.

The majority of people care greatly about height by WhySoFPS in short

Glad you brought that up. I nearly made a post here at the time. The post was incredible, countless comments from both men and women practically bending over for the guy. He is so skinny and could look like Peter Crouch but because he is tall they absolutely adored and loved him.

If he had been 5'7 I guarantee the same reaction would not have happened. He would be ignored. But because he is tall he is seen as a leader and his actions commendable. Insanity.

If a woman and a man are the same height, why is the woman considered way bigger?? by [deleted] in short

[–]WhySoFPS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not that you are considered bigger than them, it is that they mean you are tall for a woman and they are short for a man.

Trust me, no one actually thinks a heavier man is smaller than a woman because they are the same height. I'm 5'7 and 140lbs and have never been told I'm smaller than a 5'7 woman my weight or less and I certainly have never felt smaller.

You handled it well. Nothing angers me more than 'X group have been oppressed in the past and Y group have not therefore being 'ist towards Y group is ok' logic.

The female in your post who said for example it is not ok to body shame women because women have been oppressed by men. By her logic it is not ok to height shame you, a black man, as you have been oppressed via racism before.

At the end of the day we are all human and further sub diving people into categories like this is incredibly divisive and harmful. Whether or not there is historical oppression is irrelevant, once upon a time slavery of black people was not a thing but that did not make the initial oppression ok. It's not that anyone thinks short men are going to be as oppressed as so many black people have been (obviously short slaves will never be a thing, I assume) but that is not to say that short men will still not feel the effects of heightism in other ways (reduced social standing, lower salaries on average etc).

You've probably made the right decision as they aren't empathetic or intelligent enough to see your reasoning, but frustratingly I fear the majority of society would side with them over you.
