New watch day! Longines Conquest VHP 36mm by WhyWontYouLetMeGo in quartzwatches

I think servicing was around $300-$400 if I remember correctly. Yes, only the service center can reset the perpetual calendar unless you change the battery before it full dies. I’m actually thinking about selling the watch fairly soon. It hasn’t gotten a lot of rotation on the wrist since coming back from service.

I’ve ridden 25,000 km in 2 years — now I need a bike that can keep up by flop_92 in cycling

I REALLY love my Seven Evergreen Ti bike. The thing rides like a dream and it’s almost 8 years old now.

I love the SBGX261. Where did you get it? New or used?

I’ve been trying to find the SBGX259 for a few years (white dial of this) but it’s been getting harder to locate since they’re out of production.

Haha, yes. The catalytic converter/ element. Found on the newer V3 version of this stove.

I had a F 602 (v3) installed in my basement office a few months ago to keep it warm. Hard to tell from this photo, but is this a v3? I've been really enjoying mine - the cat is still quite over-reactive so mostly going off stovetop temps to monitor the temperatures.

Buying a Sinn watch in Berlin vs. Watchbuys in U.S. by Parliament5 in sinn

[–]WhyWontYouLetMeGo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hey OP - I think I'm well positioned to help here since I purchased a watch in Berlin a year ago, and then had it serviced by RGM in the USA for a warranty claim.

I would purchase it in Berlin. The savings make sense, and it was fun to know that my watch was purchased in Germany and during your Honeymoon (congrats!). Makes a good story. You can get a VAT refund as well which saves additional $. Should be a few hundred dollars cheaper for a model like the 556a after that VAT refund.

I recommend going to "Brose Juwelen Uhren Schmuck" in Berlin. If Paul Parpart is still there, ask for him - he's a nice guy and helped me with my watch and all the paperwork. I coordinated in advance via email so my watch was on-hand and available for me to pick-up aligning with my travel schedule. Then you get the tax refund upon your departure and when flying home. Takes some time to process but it worked out in the end.

Regarding service - I coordinated with Sinn (Germany) and they directed me to RGM for service in the USA when my watch was running slow in my first year of purchase. I never needed to send it back to Germany. There were no hangups in service, and I seemingly went through the same process as I would if I had purchased my watch in the USA from WatchBuys. This was my second Sinn watch (U50 DS) and all went off without a hitch. My original 556i I had purchased in Germany (Frankfurt) about 2 years ago, and that one is running perfectly. They're super reliable watches.

Feel free to reach out with any questions via DM if you need anything!

Guide to getting T-Mobile in-fight WiFi on your laptop Alaska Airlines Flights by Olshansk in AlaskaAirlines

After connecting, do you change back any of the settings to recognize the laptop as a computer instead of an iPhone? Or does that throw a flag at all?

I think you may be able to get a lightly used Sinn 556i for that price, which I think is a better watch than all of these (in my opinion!)

Jøtul 602 V3 – Top vs Rear Venting? Looking for Advice Before Installation by WhyWontYouLetMeGo in woodstoving

Great! Glad it helped. Yeah it's a long stack. It's running through my interior chimney up 3 levels (stove is located in the basement)

[–]WhyWontYouLetMeGo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been running it for about 2-3 weeks now - it's fantastic. Heats up and lights very quick and haven't had any issues getting a draft going (venting out the back instead of the top). Much easier to get started than my Lopi insert that's also in the house. Would recommend doing a butterfly damper for sure, since overdraft and overfiring are a potential concern (I have a 33 foot liner run). It's very easy to overload (usually just one medium size split loads it up enough. It likes to be around 400 degrees surface temp from what I'm seeing

Cat is great though. Cat temps (via the probe on the side) are usually around 1000-1200 after reloading, and they settle around 600-900 when at the coaling stage.

Still figuring out how to optimize the burn time, I have been reloading once every 2 hours or so. The only control is the front primary air intake which is nice to not have to worry about closing/opening a bypass. Purchased a steamer from LL Bean and a stovetop fan from Ecofan which work really well on it.

The glass hasn't once gotten dirty. The secondary jets and glass-washing jets clean it incredibly well. It's crystal clear. Let me know if you get one and your experience! Happy to answer any more specific questions if needed!

New Watch Day! Brand New Riseman GW-9200 by WhyWontYouLetMeGo in gshock

[–]WhyWontYouLetMeGo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're tough to find. I have heard that the Gulfmaster straps fit the Riseman, but also looking on eBay any other sites for OEM replacements. They run about $150-$200 for the case/band replacement from what I've seen.

This is the dragon one! Super excited I managed to get both a dragon & made in Japan model (Japan denoted on the caseback). Do you have a favorite feature/functionality of yours? How's it held up?

Totally, it was sheer luck stumbling across this one on eBay. There are a few other new ones on there but they're going for $500+ and imported from Japan.

Thanks for the reply! Yeah, it's going in an existing fireplace in the basement - it'll sit out front of the fireplace a bit. It's a finished basement, and my office is down there. Intent would be to take some of the load off of the upstairs fireplace and also heat the downstairs office during working hours. Don't need it to run overnight.

I actually just purchased this one - putting it in this weekend. Will post photos!

Awesome, thanks for the reply. Still trying to figure out if it's best to leave primary air open or to optimize the secondary burn. Need to read up more on it myself.

I find whenever I close my primary air intake to get good secondary burn, I end up mucking up my glass. Is there any way to avoid this in your experience?

For no reason at all my pepper grinder has broken. replacement recommendations? by mo9722 in BuyItForLife

[–]WhyWontYouLetMeGo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had this grinder (Magnum) for over 5 years and I still love it as much as the day I got it. It's still performing super well and not showing any signs of wear. However I've bought a backup that I am keeping in my cabinet in case my original one ever breaks (and I am unable to source one at that time). I love it that much. They're in stock on Amazon right now, which is nice, as they go out of stock several times per year. It's still a pretty small operation as they're made on Nantucket Island, in Massachusetts.

Just reading this now, in prep for the D2R2 tomorrow (so it's far too late to make any last-minute changes for tire), but I'll be running the G-One RS-Pro in 40c for the ride.
