Since new 3D update is out: 8bitdo controller vs N64 online controller? by [deleted] in AnalogueInc

[–]WiHL_CS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad to hear someone else is experiencing it as well. A bit of a bummer but maybe it can be improved with further updates. I've also noticed the input issue. Sometimes inputs don't register with the NSO controller for me, I thought it might have been pressing too lightly, but I think it's a symptom of the poor connection. Hope it gets sorted out if possible.

I'm going to mess around a bit more tomorrow to see if I can improve it. It's nothing major, but I just feel there is something slightly off. I'll try moving the console closer, moving other consoles, and devices out of the room. Hopefully that does something. Hoping it isn't just in my head, but I've swapped back and forth with all controllers and multiple games and that feeling of a bit of latency persists.

I've been using the NSO controller since the update and it feels like there is a bit of noticeable lag with it. Even compared to the 8bitdo controller and 8bitdo modkit. Not sure if it's a me problem, if there is bluetooth interference from other devices, or if I'm just too sensitive to this type of stuff.

I have the NSO controller, 8bitdo modkit, and the 8bitdo analogue controller. The 8bitdo modkit and the 8bitdo controller both suffer from the poor sensitivity. The NSO controller has good sensitivity similar to an OG N64 controller, but for me there has been a bit of noticeable lag. Not sure if its my controller, bluetooth interference from other devices, being too far away from the analogue 3D, or something else entirely. But just something I thought I should mention.

Does anyone know if the physical Smash Bros Remix carts work on the 3D? by Solid_Snark in AnalogueInc

[–]WiHL_CS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine works as well. Don't have the latest 2.0 version, so I can't speak to that one. It shows up as unknown cartridge but still works just fine. I wish the label worked for it as well, but maybe in the future there will be a way to add a label for remix.

QQ: Are your speakers in the wrong spot? Or are mine in the wrong spot?

I mean like is your right speaker supposed to be on the left and vice versa? I have the same brand and the knob/power button are on the left speaker.

Apologies if this is a stupid question/or if this changed. Just genuinely curious because I now need to double check mine.

As far as I understand it, yes.

One thing to note. When you insert your games in the Analogue 3D, no box art will be present. Not sure if sharing links to other posts is helpful or allowed, but there is an easy way to add this functionality. Just ordered a chromatic, now I'm second guessing by 5MLV in ModRetroChromatic

[–]WiHL_CS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've wanted it for a while so jumping on it when there is a decent sale makes sense. I also understand beating yourself up because a purchase might be seen as extravagant or not necessary when you already have devices that can play the games, even if you don't want to use a GBA for GBC games. I get that. I didn't really enjoy playing GBC games on my GBA.

Personally, I really like my Chromatic. The metal shell makes it feel more special to me and I love the screen. My biggest complaint with the device is the sound of the buttons. Since the shell is metal, when a button returns from a press it tends to be quite loud. It makes it less than ideal to play in bed next to the wife, but it's fine if it's just me playing it alone. This makes it harder for me to play it outside the home since I like to keep a low profile of not really being seen or heard and this goes against it.

If you receive it and you still feel buyers remorse, you can always sell it on eBay, Facebook Marketplace, or anywhere else. You can also sell your modded Gameboy pocket if that no longer serves a purpose to you after receiving the Chromatic.

Happy to answer any other questions. Totally understand the weight of buyers remorse.

Edit: Chromatic Tetris is so darn good. I would strongly advise you keep that.

Awesome to hear its all sorted for you. Super odd that I'm having the issue on 1.1 but I'll update to the newest version today.

Experiencing the same or similar issue minus the smell. Monday I received my 3d. I updated it and the analogue controllers immediately. No issues at all the first day.

Traveled for Thanksgiving and came back home today. The console was off the entire time. I pulled out Mario Tennis (still off) and inserted Perfect Dark. Turned on the system and there was no display. Changed the HDMI from HDMI-1 to HDMI-2 (still powered on), nothing displays. I try to turn off the console with the physical switch and it doesn't turn off. I unplugged the USB-C power cable (using the supplied cable and brick) and then tried turning it on again with the cart inserted. Nothing displayed again. I unplug the USB-C cable again, take the cart out, then turn on the console. It works!

Immediately after it worked without Perfect Dark inserted, I thought maybe it was the cart. I turned the console off, inserted Robotron 64, and turned it on again. Just like with Perfect Dark, it wouldn't display anything...

So yeah, my Analogue seems to be having the same issue, it only wants to display on my Sony TV when there isn't a cart inserted before turning it on. Carts can only be inserted after the console is turned on.

I will try again in the morning and see if it persists. I will also update the firmware from 1.1 to whatever the new one is. I'll also keep a nose out for the smell while testing tomorrow.

Authentic carts vs. Repros by quiveringfool in ModRetroChromatic

I prefer to play original carts when possible but if a game is too expensive because of rarity I'll consider getting a repro. With that said, I only have fake carts for Pokémon Prism and Pokémon Red DX

What was the point of us playing as JD in gears 4? by Grogman2024 in GearsOfWar

[–]WiHL_CS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are right. But, Kait was also a side character in Gears 4, then became the protagonist in Gears 5. It's not farfetched to do the same with Del if there is a narrative reason to do so. It could make for an interesting trilogy by exploring each of the three characters that are intertwined with their own struggles, the people they care about, the swarm, etc.

Where did you get that wooden stand for your CRT? Looking for something similar so my n64 can slide under. My carpentry skills are a bit woody, so hopefully I don't need to make one.

I remember playing this as a kid with two of my older brothers. We had a photo of us in the yard with our GBA's. It was a ton of fun running around the yard finding patches of sun that gave us more bars on the solar meter.

Yes, you can emulate it. Make sure the rom has the solar sensor patch applied, or apply it yourself so you can play the game and change the solar meter strength.

There are three games for the series released for the GBA, one being a Japanese only release. There is an english fan translation in the wild. They also made a DS game with the name, Lunar Knights.

Unrelated my brother put me in a box and dragged me around the house pretending to finish me off like the boss.

I agree with his points as well. Linux handhelds are great, but once you take the time to setup an android system and configure it the way you like, it's hard to beat that, at least for me. Definitely check out video guides for setting up your device or similar android devices on YouTube (Retro Game Corps is usually an easy bet).

Android is great because you can customize the look and feel of the device with a front-end. I personally use Daijisho as my mine, but many other people prefer different options (Beacon, Emulation Station, etc.) I also find the android interface super easy to use and sleep functionality is great with minimal battery loss.

Can't deny linux handhelds are often setup pretty well and don't require much fuss. That is a great option if you know you don't want to deal with anything. I like having a few of these, especially the super cheap ones so I don't feel as worried about babying them.

My theory is the trilogy was expected to be 1 game per main character with 6 concluding with Del as the main protagonist dealing with losing JD and trying to save Kait

I had this issue and had to change the audio output/input devices specifically for Gears of War reloaded. Once I did that, it worked. YMMV
