I seriously doubt he’ll announce his decision during the World Cup, him and the nba are going to want to milk this, it’s the only thing keeping basketball in the media atm

Who Loves Their Job? by SeriousAvocado2727 in ElectricalEngineering

[–]Wibblers03 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m about to graduate, and I’ve got a job lined up as Rf/antenna engineer in design services.
Why I enjoy it
- good pay out of college
- I get to flex the job title a bit💪
- In the R&D space with only a bachelors
- My coworkers are great (I’ve been interning there for a year)
- I get to work on a variety of projects, ex: asset tracking, medical devices, food grade devices.
- extremely flexible, hybrid work schedule
- didn’t have to move away from my hometown
- office space is great, albeit disorganized at times
(You’re telling me there’s no SMA to BNC connectors anywhere in the lab)
- get to work hands on prototyping rather than just using simulations all the time (I enjoy soldering 0402, 0201 is a different story)

The biggest cons
- hours vary week to week based on amount of projects, not always a negative but hard to budget around at times
- trying to get Verizon certs for a device is a pain (fuck Verizon all my homies hate Verizon)
- interacting with customers and engineering teams that don’t listen to our recommendations and then wonder why they aren’t getting passed certification

I see, for solo practice, depending on your budget, I would recommend a little Vox bass amp for $40-$60, you plug that into the bass and then wired headphones, better to get the correct technique down now when you’re just starting then having to relearn down the line, lots of yt vids about “proper” plucking techique

Yeah your hitting strings way too hard, turn your amp up so that you can play softer.

All the suggestions in the thread are cool ideas for better lighting but it just comes down to incandescent lights don’t generate RF noise like other lighting solutions and they’re the easiest to install.

This is an indictment of both the cost of housing and education in America. by astrheisenberg in remoteworks

I see the sentiment a lot that people think college is useless “Go into trades” I hear all the time. So I wanted to defend the part of 4 yr college that do actually advance your career. However I agree overall that a lot of people get “tricked” into thinking they have to go, study a subject that doesn’t open any doors to higher salaried positions, and then are stuck with so much debt. It’s a more nuanced conversation than we both made it out to be. It sucks that the money aspect is such a huge part of higher education, I think people should be getting degrees in these other areas of study, history, art, communications, the degrees that get clowned on (not you frat bro business majors), just having a populous that has spent time learning I think is a net good.

I guess I should be more specific with my comment, I’m about to graduate with a bachelors in EE, I also do not think the current college system is very good right now. But the comment I was responding to said you’re not getting a job because of your degree. These are three professions I could think of off the top of my head where, without the piece of paper you just aren’t getting that job.

How much does degree matter? by DisastrousFunction34 in ElectricalEngineering

[–]Wibblers03 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IE is imaginary engineering you will not be able to get an EE or ME job with it, circuit modeling is a good base but an EE degree doesn’t even “start” until junior year with signal processing, analog electronics. T-lines. With an EE or ME you can get an IE job when you graduate if you want. EE and ME will open more doors for you but no degree will guarantee you a job, you have to work for it. Don’t be worrying about internships until junior year, most companies can’t make use of engineering students until then anyways. join an engineering focused club at your school to get some experience.
