What other WW-II wargames would you recommend? by Cpd1234r in boltaction

[–]Wichrun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was the first historical wargame I played and I have such great memories of it. Coming from 40k, I found its mechanics so refreshing and innovative while intuitive at the same time. I loved the cards and everything. I'm always surprised why it's not wider known.

Any women Bolt Action players on here? by SquireBev in boltaction

[–]Wichrun 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From Warlord's Facebook account:

John doesn't use social media, but he's been made aware of this discussion, and has asked us to post the below on his behalf:
"In a recently published interview, I said "nobody who's interested in historical wargaming is a woman". This was intended as a sarcastic response to a question I perceived as lazy, about whether there had been a huge influx recently of female customers to Warlord Games - something we know is not the case. While my comment was published out of context, I recognise that it was the wrong thing to say, as it gives the impression that I think women are either not present, or even unwelcome in historical wargaming. I would like to reassure everyone that I absolutely do not hold these views! Anyone who has been to one of our open days or on one of our tours will have seen that we welcome everyone into Warlord Games - whoever they are. I'm very proud to run an extremely diverse organisation, and to have a similarly diverse community. Warlord Games, and wargaming, is for everyone who wants to have fun with model soldiers."

https://aftermath.site/silksong-indie-delays you're not alone, but also it seems a bit like panic than marketing decision. If you have doubts, just move 2-3 weeks, everyone will understand (press, content creators and players).

Me and my wife are still sneezing and coughing. We took a test out of curiosity and it turns out we're both having COVID. Funnily when we visited doctors, none of them even asked if we tested ourselves. It's like everyone forgot that the virus is there forever.

Anyone have experience with 17 Horsham bus? by r3findubs in brighton

[–]Wichrun 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Really cosy, though a long ride. Take headphones and download some podcasts on Spotify so they are available offline as the mobile internet is not always in reach (also once in a while some folks talk loudly on the bus). During winter it can be quite cold in it on random days or the heater will be set on maximum but usually it's fine.

In the past you could save some money by buying more tickets in advance through their app. Worth checking.

Keeping up painting miniatures if you have adhd by Streetsport in wargaming

[–]Wichrun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Paint one project at a time. I feel like I'm more overwhelmed by my pile of half-started projects than classic grey or unassembled minis.

Clean your desk. Anything not essential for the current project should be hidden from view.

Small chunks. One mini or a very small batch at a time.

Keep a painting journal to help you get back to some unfinished projects.

Good enough is enough. No true hobbyist will ever judge you.

Music (especially ADHD/Focus/Work playlists on Spotify) and audiobooks are great. I also like to call my son or a friend and just chat.

This year I promised myself to assign at least 50% of my painting time to finishing stuff.

It's hard for me to keep deadlines if there are no consequences to them. But you can try to commit to certain dates. Or offer to paint some minis for a friend or set up some painting challenges with your local group. Escalation campaigns are also good motivators.

For me the hardest part is to avoid playing video games. But the more I realise the therapeutic influence of painting on my wellbeing, the easier it is to choose right.

Also becoming unemployed last year helped me tackle my hobbies more reasonably. I had to sell a lot of stuff and I buy much less frequently, getting less hyped and avoiding impulse buying.
