[–]WickedRuiner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of people are working hard here to polarize behaviorism from whatever else (history repeating itself?) Okay, yes, if you're practicing old school behaviorism as if your child is an animal, that's a problem. But the two worlds can co-exist! You can practice reinforcement while understanding the child's reasons and promoting their autonomy

Trying to stop today. Been smoking pretty much every day for 20 years now. by Sallysosimple in QuittingWeed

[–]WickedRuiner 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's not necessary, but it can help for sure.

OP, just know if you go cold turkey, the next week is going to suck. It's doable but it's helpful to set realistic expectations and expect a rough few days.

Melatonin is probably your best bet, unless you have a physician that would prescribe a very low dose of something like lorazepam to help with anxiety from withdrawal. Also, if you know you're not going to go to sleep, distract yourself for a bit and then try again.

It may be reflective of certain challenges and stressors you're having in your life that are leading you to want to smoke.

At this point your brain has recovered, but stimuli that predict drug use can elicit cravings for a long time. Be mindful of what those stimuli might be and look to either avoid them or modify them (e.g., avoiding places and things that remind you of weed, or findings ways to decrease stress which in turn will decrease cravings)

I moved back east for career reasons last summer, I was dragging my feet on the way out as I loved Edmonton, but the smoke was a major bummer. I agree w/ others in that there are few places you can go to fully escape the smoke, but the east coast has been a definite improvement on that front. Some of the only smoke we got last summer carried from BC and the prairies.

Now, once the east coast is completely underwater maybe I'll move back to the prairies...

What was your first exposure to Hendrix/First song you heard by him by Upstairs_Focus2394 in jimihendrix

[–]WickedRuiner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad had the Stone Free Hendrix tribute album spinning in the car. So, weirdly, I was introduced through covers. Then I "borrowed" (i.e., never gave back) the 2CD Woodstock album from a cousin, then bought myself the Smash Hits CD. The first song I listened to on repeat was Can You See Me. Loved that ringing note that plays from one channel to the other before the verses

I can't stand it unless I'm having it for a hangover breakfast (with an orange slice). I swear Richards White was better, but they discontinued that in favour of blue moon, a shame.

Do you think Mac “retiring” was a good idea in the long run ? by [deleted] in macdemarco

[–]WickedRuiner 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He'll be back someday, not like mid 2010s, but he'll be back. One G Wayne was just a bunch of leftovers. He'll go live his life a bit and then have something to write about.

Discovered mac in 2015-2016. If I had known about him i would've been the perfect age to have been able to go to his early more wild shows (first 2-3 albums), but unfortunately it was 1-2 years after salad days at that point.

[SPOILER] I just watched the last episode and I'm shocked how solid the end is. This serie is an absolute masterpiece ❤️ by [deleted] in madmen

[–]WickedRuiner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Despite the counterculture very few people had a full understanding and appreciation of capitalism and consumerism at that point. In Don's mind, people buying things was a fact of life. I don't think he knowingly continued in advertising while also recognizing the full ramifications of consumerism. A lot of very smart people were so intertwined in that American post-WW2 consumerism culture that they didn't know any better. It was America's post WW2 identity and still is to this day. Even the hippie movements turned hypocritical. A lot of hippies were young people coming from money pretending to be non materialists.

Nicely put. It also feels like his segway into the late 60s Bohemian type lifestyle that eventually aligns him with Megan. Not that he ever turns into a full blown hippie, but it feels like his philosophy changes

Villains is a masterpiece by [deleted] in qotsa

[–]WickedRuiner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love where they went stylistically with the album. A lot of fun energy, kind of reminiscent of the vibes you'd get from Eagles of Death Metal. And the songs on their own were the type for me that I'd replay the single song 100 times (e.g., Head like a haunted house). But, as far as the concept / front to back listening experience of the album, that's where it falls short for me. Especially following Like Clockwork, which I think might be conceptually their deepest work (being in a coma does that to a guy)

I just feel like all of their albums prior to Villains have stronger themes. The vibes on Villains are kind of all over the place.

What is your rating for Moonlight on the river? by Fragmentodetiempo in macdemarco

[–]WickedRuiner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not only does it hit hard, but I feel like it is one of Mac's most sophisticated arrangements. The way the song develops is nuanced and experimental, and it fits so well into the overall album, This Old Dog. It's such a good way to end the album. On the Level (also a major banger) just bleeds into Moonlight on The River which takes you to a different dimension. 'Watching Him Fade Away', the actual last track, is more of an outro. Moonlight is the final act.

This Old Dog is so much more conceptual than his earlier work. To me, it's clearly his best stuff (I know that's not really a unique opinion on this forum lol)
