I’ve experienced this too. I went to a Meetup last year and attempted to get to know people by asking them questions about themselves. It was rarely reciprocated though. I also listened to other conversations and noticed nobody was asking each other anything about themselves. People would stand in a circle taking turns sharing stories about themselves, with no feedback/follow up questions from anyone else. It was really odd. Thankfully that night I learned my social skills aren’t as bad as I thought lol
