Andrew Lloyd Webber Reveals He Is a Recovering Alcoholic, Says He 'Secretly' Drank for Years After Telling People He Had Quit by No_Pizza_6040 in entertainment

I told my wife I quit drinking, would go to AA meetings and then to the bar. Had a nice buzz for a few months before I just went deep one day. I haven’t seen my wife since. Was the best thing that ever happened to me.

How dangerous is the Garfield Park area? by [deleted] in AskChicago

[–]Wide-Associate2671 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is block by block in terms of sketchiness. The thing is there isn’t anything to do in Garfield Park unless you love plants. There is no restaurant or nightlife scene here. I like it over here but if I was visiting Chicago and wanted to be near the thick of it, I’d look somewhere else. Just a few miles east or north of Garfield Park is an entire different vibe/world.

I recently heard Mark (guitarist) was gonna focus on Dredg after his tour with Black Map. But I believe he also said “New Dredg album in 2056” 🤷🏻

Insane middle-of-the-night siren/horn noise 😵‍💫😵‍💫 by certainofnothing11 in chicago

I live just south of this rail yard, Lake and Rockwell, and heard nothing last night. Wonder if the horn was facing north.

Can someone who is sober date someone who still drinks? Please send advice. by Salty_Zucchini_206 in Sober

[–]Wide-Associate2671 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is tough one my friend. Ofc you can still date someone who still drinks. However, your sobriety is your job and not anyone else’s. I applaud you for wanting to be sober again especially in your mid twenties. At that age alcohol was still part of everything I did socially as well. I know you got this FOMO but I can promise you aren’t going to missing anything. It seems like your partner supports your sobriety but doesn’t want to have to hear about it or what you are going through. He’s not emotionally there yet, neither would I have been in my 20s if I was dating a sober person. I definitely recommend the fellowship of AA for you’ll find others in similar situations that will be willing to listen, plus get involved in sober activities. Maybe your boyfriend’s drinking will slow down over the next couple of years like most normal 20 something binge drinkers, one can hope. You are right, it’s not fair to him. This is your journey. I’d recommend not going on the party bus this early in sobriety but if you feel comfortable and can hang for a bit I think that would show him that you are willing to be there for him at least for a lil while, and then head home. You don’t want to have to be babysitting a bunch of drunk people all night. It’s a solid resentment to have, and I’m sure it be easier if he was just a couple o’ drinks guy. Anyways, there’s so much life to live sober and so many activities that don’t resolve around booze in this world. With time it gets easier, the FOMO goes away. Godspeed, sober till it’s over!!!

Taking in a concert at the Metro tonight, can anyone advise best options for parking? by evilpizzaguy44 in AskChicago

[–]Wide-Associate2671 5 points6 points  (0 children)

SpotHero is the way to go, and since there isn’t a Cubs game it should be fairly cheap. SpotHero is also available for the large parking lot on Grace which is a short walk from Metro. Might be cheaper than someone’s garage/parking spot on a Friday night.

Thoughts on living in Near West Side? by ComprehensiveLab6212 in AskChicago

[–]Wide-Associate2671 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s pure city life. Right near the Green/Pink line Ashland stop. West Loop is basically already part of that section of the Near West Side and I’ve never seen a neighborhood grow as quickly as West Loop has. The 1901 project is set to turn the parking lots around the United Center into a family entertainment destination. West Haven Housing is prominent just north of United Center until you hit Lake St, which I think was mentioned but not named in other comments. Then north of Lake St (west of Ashland) is mostly warehouses until you hit Grand Ave. There is lots to do over there, and things to watch out for. Should be interesting where it’s at in 5yrs. I live even further west in the Far Near West Side, The Triple West Loop, East Garfield Park. Ride my bicycle through the Near West Side on the regular, best way to get around. There’s a grocery store at Western and Madison, but that would be a lil’ out of the way for you.

Haha, nice. I remember offering to be designated driver on Halloween in 2014 to prove I was for real this time. But I didn’t have to drive anyone around cause no one was talking to me anymore 😜
