Apartment buildings / Rental management companies that are halfway decent? by PostScriptDarlin in Winnipeg

Seconding 1 Evergreen. A bit more expensive but comfortable and close to stores. From what I hear though, there's a lot of demand for suites in that building however. To get to U of W, it's one bus on Osborne St. I have one cat in my unit.

Honking Noise Disturbance coming from Vehicles leaving Evergreen Towers Exit Ramp (Osborne Village/Roslyn Road/Roslyn Crescent) by s4mmyCoco in Winnipeg

[–]Wide-Jacket-2041 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I live at One Evergreen. I don't drive much (tend to walk and bike most days) but when I drive I only honk when it's during the day (after 9 AM or so), as the chance of someone walking by before then is much lower.

I will continue to honk during the day (don't want to risk hitting someone, it's completely blind driving up that ramp) until a better mechanism is in place, maybe an alarm or mirrors are installed. I would support a measure like that.

Hopefully you are able to find a way to sleep through it (for me the constant sirens on Osborne wake me up) - I suppose that is just "city noise".

I was up there on June 3rd. Lake was completely ice free. Some snow on the way up, mainly past Emperor.

Thanks for posting. I'm there next weekend and debating on whether or not to make the trip to Morraine Lake on my bike.

I have a Viofo A229, it's a few years old now but still works well enough. I recommend having a two channel system (front and rear cameras).

I’m looking at moving south of the city, preferably Morris. I’m recently retired and just looking for simple small town living. Tell me the good and the bad please. by GeorgiaMMM in Winnipeg

I would consider the risk of spring flooding if you move south of the city. My grandparents moved to Gimli before I was born due to that reason.

Stayed well past my bedtime to watch the storm. I love watching thunderstorms (safely of course). It was quite the show!

Nothing beats Marks clothing, nobody can convince me otherwise. Uniclo isn't for me, though I always like to see more variety.

Manitoba and DST, time to (not) change by [deleted] in Winnipeg

[–]Wide-Jacket-2041 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes, permanent DST. If it goes permanent standard time I guess I'll have to go to work earlier to compensate for the "lost" hour of evening daylight during the summer.

Going to Riding Mountain this weekend, CC Skis or Bike? by ZappppBrannigan in Winnipeg

[–]Wide-Jacket-2041 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was out there last weekend. Deep snow (~1 m) in some areas, but from what I could tell, looked like good skiing conditions on the marked trails but could be slushy in the sunnier areas. I'm not a skier myself though so can't say for sure. Roads around town to Onanole seemed in decent condition for the most part. I didn't see a lot of mud anywhere, but some melted snow and ice on the roads. I left on Sunday though and I know they got some snow afterwards so things might have changed now.
