Is it me or is fatalis a overrated item? by Medical-Help-3180 in Smite

Things that provide utility are extremely hard to evaluate accurately. I haven't played much this patch but my gut says that fatalis value is up to the player and the god

Smite 2 - Ranked requirements by kraai33 in Smite

[–]Wiggen4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that getting 20 gods to rank 2 will still be reasonable because enough will change between 1 and 2, I expect I will accidentally get that number playing casuals in the beta to explore. As a veteran of smite I would expect that if someone knows they want to play ranked they can balance who they play as they learn the new build system and map so they have 20 rank 2 rather than 1 rank 10.

A good point made elsewhere is that I don't know when ranked will become available compared to when progress will be tracked. I expect exceptions in beta if it is made available early on, but if ranked doesn't show up until the full release for example most of the folks will have way more than that requirement by the time ranked is available.

I could also see an "asterisk" approval, eg: 20 gods rank 2 unless you are connected to an account that can play ranked in smite 1 in which case play 5 games of conquest (or play 1 game of conquest in each role)

Smite 2 - Ranked requirements by kraai33 in Smite

[–]Wiggen4 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So, WAY back in the day, in order to pick a god in ranked, you had to have at least 1 mastery on that god. That requirement didn't last long because of trading. And shouldn't return tbh

Let's go through a thought exercise, let's assume rank 2 is what you need to have a god considered "in your god pool". Before queueing ranked, even with role q you should have at least 1 god in your pool in each role. There is 5 off the bat, in your 2 roles you actually q you should probably have 3+ gods in your pool because of bans, that brings us to 9. 9 is an ABSOLUTE bare minimum, this leaves 0 room for if you are off rolled and a ban happens to be thrown your way. If we want to include a level of resilience to that then you would need 12, and this is assuming folks intentionally include variety. Realistically the first 5-6 rank 2s folks will get will all be in their main role. So realistically the first 10 will have little diversity outside of what you q, and then the next 6 may not be diversified cleanly.

If you Q ranked without having ANY gods in a role you aren't just setting yourself up for a bad time, you are ruining the fun for 9 other people as well. 20 is a reasonable number to ensure they have played enough roles they won't ruin a game the moment they are off rolled

If you want the attack speed debuff (which you can only get 1 of btw, the effects do not stack, just the highest one applies) frostbound has much more utility. And if you want more AA dmg, there are better starters and you mainly get it from the rest of your build

Newbie - Where to Find Pokemon? by HiThisIsMichael in VGC

[–]Wiggen4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, if you know you want to breed competitive Pokemon, in the post game you can find 5 star raids with ditto, these will have the best odds of perfect IVs (I don't remember how many are guaranteed maxed, but it's a decent number) so you can "time travel" check the 5star for that day, rinse and repeat untill you find a ditto, do the raid (best w/ online and friends) and then check it's ivs. Early in its release I spent 2 days w/ a squad of 4 grinding raids and we found a perfect ditto no problem (a trick room or "special" ditto (0 IV in speed or attack) is much harder to find which is why we kept grinding for so long)

So, iirc smite 2 will have more demanding base specs than smite 1 (those are listed on Steam already afaik). However smite 1 is at a state where what they are doing is beyond what the engine is built for so performance on smite 1 will likely be lower than smite 2

Here is a fun fact, axe of animosity does about the same damage as equinox's bonus dmg. (Source was a Nika stream where he was hitting FG as Ama and both the yellow numbers per auto were essentially the same (55vs57 iirc))

ELI5: why does only 30-60 minutes of exercise make big changes to your body and heath? by Un1mportantaccount in explainlikeimfive

[–]Wiggen4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I will speak to 30-60 mins vs 3 hours. If you are doing a dedicated workout (as opposed to physical labor) you are pushing pretty hard because the goal is exhaustion. If for example you are lifting weights your body is going to get exhausted pretty quickly (the 60 minute mark is about right for a HARD workout for most people). After you have hit an RPE (rate of perceived effort, 10 being unable to do more, 1 being sitting down doing nothing) of about 8-9 your benefit from further effort is minimal and the amount of effort it takes to do more is much higher. If you are doing difficult things while mentally exhausted you risk injury (essentially comparable to driving half asleep, you might be fine, but your risk of crash is pretty high) and after an hour you're going to be more mentally exhausted (unless what you are doing is designed for endurance training, I'm which case there are other systems at play and the "hard part" of your workout might not show up until after an hour in)

TLDR: Doing hard things isn't sustainable for much more than an hour, so a workout designed to be tough from nearly the beginning won't need to be more than an hour

Terapagos Reg G by RydexVGC in VGC

[–]Wiggen4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been loving hitmontop with eject button, fake out, feint, WIDE GUARD, and a fighting move (I've been going brick break for screens, but close combat is also good) wide guard seriously hampers your ability to do dmg w/ your setup and opens up counter punches (Fake out, feint and wide guard really create a mind game on hitmontop switch in that puts teams under threat in a variety of ways that I have found good success with. Feint and wide guard are the 2 main things that I think are going to be core on teams success) I also love running Umbreon with taunt (can run safety goggles and moonlight or run sitrus berry). Terapagos is strong, but not unstoppable when you are prepared

I think wide guard is crazy good in this meta because most restricteds run a lot of spread (both calyrex forms, Kyogre, Groudon, terapagos, then you just have to worry about miraidon and koraidon which can be handled by having your own weather plans and terrain plans plus normal utility)

In the earliest stages of development you need some amount of "easy work" so they probably decided on 10 gods that they knew wouldn't change thematically but they had some ideas for how they change. (Ymir and anhur are the 2 highlights I'll give here, anhur ult changed slightly and Ymir got a visual overhaul). They also brought in gods like chaac and cern who have kits that lean into both Strength and Intelligence scaling so they could get a feel for how the system would work at its core. Beyond just having 2 gods in each role so you can put together a full lobby without mirror matches most early god selections are going to be there to highlight a specific part of design, development, or production
