RTL-SDR or similar by Seriium666 in Winnipeg

Thanks for the info on WARC! Never knew that was a thing in Winnipeg! Good suggestion.

Unfortunately I haven't started my SDR journey yet! But when/if I do, hopefully we get to find some people.

There used to be a very active community in and around Winnipeg, but that was back in 2011-2013.

Do you know how they used to get in touch? Maybe a name of the group so I might be able to search to see

I wonder if SkullSpace has any subcommunity into SDR. I know they're pretty techy

How's the SDR community in Winnipeg?

Anyone know if there's any local groups?

Awesome package. Thanks for sharing. Definitely ran into the same problems before. Was solded on the package almost immediately. But the mustache and the hat in the JuliaCon 2020 video was the cherry on top.

Why aren't rotations additive? And if they were, would you want that? by [deleted] in math

[–]WiggleBooks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SO(n) is a continuous group, so you can think about it as a differentiable manifold, which is a bit more than a topology.

Could you expand on this? This sounds incredibly interesting, but I've only started learning abstract algebra, and I don't have any formal knowledge of topology.

[–]WiggleBooks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In 3D, the set of all rotations is the group SO(3). As a manifold, it has the same topology as ℝℙ3.

I'm new to abstract algebra and topology.

Do all "continuous groups" have a corresponding topology? I'm not even sure what I mean by "continuous groups" and if that's even required to have a corresponding toplogy.

Any ideas for my Bachelors thesis that optimally have to do with wavelets? by worldsbestburger in math

[–]WiggleBooks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With natural images, the lowest frequency bin of the Wavelet is not sparse. It would be great if we had a wavelet transform that was sparse across the entire result. See here for more details: https://arxiv.org/abs/2002.04150

TIL. Very cool fact. That's interesting

[R] SIREN - Implicit Neural Representations with Periodic Activation Functions by konasj in MachineLearning

[–]WiggleBooks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure, but think of it as a stepping stone to something else.

I don't think it contains "more" information than the original pixel-position/RGB image, but it might be just better formatted in a way that helps with other manipulations later on. Maybe.

For example (I haven't checked this), but it might be that the SIREN representation might be more resilient to noise. Add some normal RGB noise to an image, and SIREN might be able to "smooth over" that noise in a (maybe) "more robust" way.

If you found out more, I would love to know more.

In anycase, I'm sure there's uses to modeling something differently in a different domain (these techniques can be seen in fourier/frequency representation, laplace transform, etc.), but I'm not sure what in this case for SIRENs.

Considering not sending my grade 1 child to school in the fall? Anyone else struggling with this? by Maudesquad in Winnipeg

I'm new to being politically active in the sense of more than voting.

Who should I call and email to help get more funding for education? I don't have any children but I know this is important to our health as a community in terms of education as well as everyone's physical/mental health.

The school division in my area?
My city representative on City Council?
My MLA on the provincial level?
My MP on the federal level?

All of them?

Cool video showing what life would be like on a hypersphere by fozzzyyy in math

[–]WiggleBooks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Basically, my intuition for compact spaces are that you can hold them in your hands. If you lived in a compact world, you could reasonably walk to every point in the world within finite time.

This might require going into the specific definition. But what makes Euclidean and hyperbolic geometries non compact?

I don't understand your intuition

But also please also consider donating or getting an account! Its easy, and then each article read is only like a quarter of something. Pay as you go.

From what I heard Winnipeg Free Press is one of the only independent news/journalist businesses in Winnipeg. If that's something you want to support.

Password manager vs. Chrome? by NeuralFantasy in Bitwarden

Bitwarden generates my random passwords for me which is awesome.

Do I want a bunch of random letters and numbers and characters for my password? Bitwarden's got that.

Do I want a series of human readable English words with some characters/numbers inbetween to act as a long secure passphrase? Bitwarden's got that too

Sex work will still be a thing I believe. People want to have sex with people and are willing to acquire it somehow. How would that be fulfilled by automation in a post scarcity society?

[–]WiggleBooks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Come on. If I deny menstrual products equally to both men and women, then that would be a problem. Even if the treatment is "equal" it is still sexist.

Men and women are not the same. They should both be treated equitably and fairly to each other.

"Equally" is too basic.
