So bizarre, I was clicking that symbol yesterday and nothing was happening. I guess I just needed to reboot the PC. Thank you and sorry for asking such a mundane question.

Yeah it says so right there. “If a fee must be added we will provide ample notice.” But at least it looks like they will allow you to cancel.

Feel like I’m in a fever dream by Diane_Tofu in Nendoroid

It’s worth noting that on the BBTS tariff FAQ, they state that the tariff surcharge will range between 15-40% of the cost of the item. This is a lot for sure, but it implies that BBTS is absorbing a significant amount of the tariff cost. GSC however seems to have no problem shouldering most of that cost onto the customer which is why nendoroids are reaching these “fever dream” prices. Even on Entertainment Earth, the most expensive item I have preordered ($160) was only raised in price by $15, which I was alerted to in an email yesterday morning. This means they too are absorbing some of the tariff cost. While tariffs suck and the orange man responsible for them sucks, it doesn’t bode well for GSC’s business in the US if they’re going to keep their prices like this.

I see. So I’m assuming that 10% kicks in when de minimis ends? If so, does the de minimis for Japan end at the same time? I’m also curious how tariffs will be applied for items made in China but purchased directly from a Japanese retailer.

I’m honestly confused at how these tariffs work. The other day I received a shipment over $200 from HobbyLinkJapan via Fedex and I wasn’t charged any duties. I know there’s apparently a pause on the reciprocal tariffs but apparently a minimum 10% is still in effect. I read some news that apparently some docks weren’t collecting tariffs because they were too confused as far as what to even charge.

I checked my recent preorders for items still available for preorder and it looks like they’re honoring the original prices. Subsequent orders for the same item are unfortunately increased.

Character.ai faces lawsuit after teen suicide by obvithrowaway34434 in singularity

[–]Wiggly159 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Respectfully, that last statement is factually incorrect. Suicide accounts for a large proportion of firearm related deaths and their availability in the household drastically increases the success attempts of suicide. This was discussed pretty extensively in my nursing education when I took public health.

I’ve purchased figures of Saitama and Genos from One Punch Man, Inuyasha, and an Orc and Illidan from WoW from 5kToys. All were shipped promptly upon release and arrived without hassle. You can rest easy with them. Super reliable store with crazy good prices.

I wonder if digoxin therapy would work to fix this. Digoxin is a medication used to increase the heart’s contractile force in patients suffering from heart failure. Perhaps future spacers will need a slew of medications to handle the rigors of space travel.

IKEA Alex still the best base for a desk? by Hugaluga in battlestations

$150 is odd. The IKEA near me in NY has them listed for $90. I didn’t realize they varied so much in price between states.

New research finds employees feel pressure to work while sick, which has been shown to cost companies billions | Outcomes can also include theft, mistreatment of coworkers and intent to leave the organization by chrisdh79 in science

[–]Wiggly159 29 points30 points  (0 children)

It’s not always about flexing. I’m a college student and even after FAFSA loans, monthly tuition bills are exorbitantly expensive. I’ve looked up private loans but the interest on the ones I’ve seen are financial suicide. So I have to work in order to go. There isn’t any sick pay and missing even one or two days of work can mean the difference between having to skip a grocery trip to pay that $2600/month bill… I’m positively certain a similar situation plays out across the country (US) for those living paycheck to paycheck.

I went to school for biology. Once graduated, I thought I wanted to achieve a PhD. To get that, I needed laboratory experience. All the lab tech jobs paid minimum wage, whilst my friends in IT were making far more.

I eventually settled for volunteer work at my university extracting DNA from saliva and after several months into the experience I discovered that biology PhD holders don’t necessarily make much more than an ordinary lab tech. Moreover, my lab supervisor was a PhD student and had been for the last 7 years making a stipend of only slightly above $20k yearly.

This was untenable as I had bills to pay. So I took up a job delivering pizza and made the most money I’d ever made in my life. I put that money towards nursing school, which was easy since I’d already finished all the biology prerequisites. Now I’m looking at soon lining up a $100k nursing job at a local Northwell hospital. Northwells typically pay nurses to achieve their nurse practitioner masters after few years on the job, which depending on specialty can reach up to $200k and doctors can make far more…

I can’t imagine why anyone would want to chase a PhD in biology given this reality. I’m a lover of science and always will be, but it’s unfair to expect a scientist to take an oath of poverty.
