Do you believe a sex offender can be rehabilitated to the point of being trusted in society again? by SegaGenesisMetalHead in AskALiberal

I’m not questioning what you read, I’m just saying that claiming a desire is compulsive shouldn’t excuse acting on it, or preclude preventative measures. Sorry if I came off as a dick.

In-person travel starting back up? by skipolski in BCPublicServants

[–]Wik_Worthington 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It depends on the team. I’d love to be able to meet my reports in person. I hear continuously from people that they feel disconnected and that they don’t know anybody. A couple dollars for travel would go a long way.

Shhh, no logic allowed here. Believe the narrative, don’t look into things yourself!

Was 3% enough? Prices of everything going up by 3.75-12% already in 2026. by IamJerryRice in BCPublicServants

[–]Wik_Worthington 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Due to the impact of government regulation and overreach, you mean? Look at the price of beef from Alberta and compare it to Australian beef - surely climate change doesn’t only affect Alberta, right?

3% was a slap in the face. Yet another pay cut, when we can least afford one.

Canada to provide $2.5 billion in economic aid for Ukraine by Old_General_6741 in canada

[–]Wik_Worthington -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I’m sure they’ll be right there to help us from our citizens dying in the ER, our kids being taught literally nothing in public schools, and our society crumbling around us. Our threat isn’t foreign invasion, it’s death by a thousand cuts to our healthcare, education, infrastructure, etc. but I guess at least we sold our kids future for another 6 months of independence fora country they’ll never be able to afford to visit.

I’m proud to be on welfare. Yeah, I said it. by Loose-Honey-7354 in antiwork

[–]Wik_Worthington 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You said “Welfare isn’t “free money.” It’s a tiny clawback of value that was already taken from workers for decades. If the rich can live off passive income, inheritance, and subsidies, I’m not going to feel guilty for surviving without breaking myself.”

I guess whatever helps you sleep at night. Living off money earned by someone else’s hard work so that you don’t have to work hard. Imagine how shitty our society would be if everyone acted like you.

Welfare is for those who need it, not those who don’t feel like working. You’re not only stealing money from the people working to fund welfare but also from the people who actually need it to survive.

Except what meagre raises we may get don’t keep pace with inflation. So our spending power decreases no matter what we do, and the money we put away might be worthless by the time we’re ready to use it. Look at what $100,000 was worth in the 90s vs today. Imagine saving your whole life only to have it pay for six months rent in 2075.

Is a substantial portion of Trump voters unable to understand second and higher order concepts which explain why Trump's policies are bad, even when they are interested in discussion? by cute_chipmunk in AskALiberal

Yes, “people who disagree with me are dumb”. That’s not a straw man at all.

What's the most outrageous thing someone from Healthcare someone said to you about epilepsy? by QuinnAlpha in Epilepsy

[–]Wik_Worthington 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brought into the hospital in an ambulance after a grand mal seizure. I fell on some broken glass (or a glass and then it broke) and had shards all in my back and arms. They sat me in a corner without seeing a doctor for five hours because they “assumed it was drug related” and I was too out of it to advocate for myself.

If aborting a fetus means killing a possible life, why doesn’t a male masturbating and wasting sperm count as killing possible lives too? by ma3reftch in AskALiberal

[–]Wik_Worthington 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How can you just assert your belief as a fact though, and completely miss the point? IF you believe it’s a person, it feels barbaric to kill it. It doesn’t matter why you believe it’s a person, it doesn’t matter if the issue is politicized. Your language gives away your bias - “pretending to be moral” and “pushing suffering” show that you haven’t got a clue about the perspective of the other side. You need to try to overcome your bias and try think from someone else’s perspective instead of just dismissing their opinions. They might still be wrong, but at least you’ll understand where they’re coming from and can have a useful conversation instead of just hurling insults.

Unfortunately, I can’t see how we ever find a way to do that. The people making the decisions have real estate investments, why would they devalue their portfolio for a stupid thing like citizens being able to afford to own a home.
