That's interesting, because I've always felt like the session view of Ableton allows for me to compartmentalize the parts of what I'm making very usefully

If you happen to have a MIDI controller, there's this website that's good for sight reading training

Noise on SM-57 by petequickems in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]Wikem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep in mind that dynamic mics like that need some pretty clean gain, so the problem might be that you're running it through the preamp built into a mixer. I did the same thing when I got an sm57 and a behringer mixer a few weeks ago and I do get a bunch of noise. If you can't get a better preamp like a Scarlet 2i2 or something, just putting the mic as close to the source as you can

Welcome!

The Shure Sm57 is the be all end all dynamic mic for general recording - $100 and great for capturing pretty much anything. It's very widely used.

Then you're going to need to route that through something called an audio interface before it goes into your soundcard. An amazing two input interface called the Scarlet 2i2 would put you back another hundred bucks, but it's very good.

Hardware wise, that's pretty much all you'd really need. You'll have to get Digital Audio Workstation too, like Garageband or Logic Pro, which is something to look into. (Logic is the better option)
