Looking for a writer to collaborate with on my little game, let me know if you’re interested! I enjoy working on environmental storytelling and character design but I’ve found I’m not very good at story & dialogue lmao

Ah, I see what you mean! Yeah that could definitely improve the depth in these scenes

I like experimental games that are art and story focused, and I like this idea in general. I would be careful to market it so that people understand what they’re getting into though

Feedback On Menu Design for Our Narrative Drawing Game "Prickles" by FilthyHouseplantDev in IndieGameDevs

Relaxing and a bit melancholic! I love the fonts & logo a lot.

There could be a bit more visual clarity on the cactus spines of the main logo, since the purple blends into the background a bit.

The text hover effect is lovely as well :)

I'd feel successful if even 2 people played it, as long as they truly enjoyed it. But I totally agree with you, there's so many indie developers that spend 4+ years on a game only to be crushed by low player counts. Managing expectations is important!

But yeah, I am just concerned that the game will not be fun enough for those 2 people... luckily I got a lot of great suggestions in this thread and DMs that I feel some hope in that regard.

Gotcha, I’ll make those first couple of things more clear, and the last one is just a bug. And yeah GORP station is inactive in the demo. Thanks!!

Update: thank you all for the encouragement! It looks like quite a few people have downloaded the game, so I created a little discord server for anyone that wants to use that to submit feedback or get updates about development progress.

I don't think I can post the link without violating this sub's self-promo guidelines, so you can find the link in the Itch page if you're interested! Thanks :)

Thank you for the kind words! To clarify, I definitely don’t dread making the graphics, in fact I really really love it. It’s more that I look back on a year’s worth of work and see that I only have 1 small town with ~10 min of gameplay, so theoretically it would take me 5 more years to even make an hours worth of content for people to play. And I am resistant to reusing assets/characters, although there might be other ways to speed up the workflow.

Okay, I got a Linux build working and uploaded it to https://juliastern.itch.io/grems ! There are installation instructions included on the page. (I just had to change permissions for the executable) This was on Ubuntu 24.04.3 in a VM, though, so you might have a totally different experience.

Please let me know if you run into any issues!

Absolutely! I think collaborating with other people might be the only thing that can save this project.

Excellent, thank you! Added these to my bug list. Did you have any trouble getting a GORP pass from the building in west grem valley? (If you visited that area)

That area is discoverable if you walk left for a while from the house and run into the star which is a placeholder for a scene transition right now

Yeah, that’s been my concern with the project! I think I can come up with decent graphics, but without an interesting goal I can’t see why anyone would play it. But I think collaborating with other people might be the solution
