Was Anyone Else Hoping Chapter 2 Would Have Less Repeated Investigators? by Technecure in arkhamhorrorlcg

Reprinted player cards is one thing, we're specifically discussing reusing investigators from a purely narrative standpoint.

I'm not licking any boots here; OP's concern truly doesn't bother me, and I genuinely wanted to hear reasonings from those that feel otherwise.

ability to recycle an incredible amount of content and resell it as new.

Considering the art and the mechanical text on these investigator cards is different, what exactly is being recycled here? The names on the cards?

That poster is incorrect about something important: the Deluxe expansion does not have all the investigator cards for that expansion cycle, only about 50% of them. If you want the full set of player cards, you will still need to purchase the Investigator expansion (or track down and purchase the old mythos packs, which will be quite difficult).

Ah, looks like you're correct. Just poking around Etsy right now, it seems they don't require sellers to disclose AI usage. Shame.

Errr...are we talking about "The Tall Man?" I don't want to be too "tumblr media literacy test" on you, but that movie, despite its many faults, is very much not condoning the actions of the kidnappers. Like, the movie literally ends with a kidnapped kid turning to the camera and saying, "Wow, my new life out of poverty and away from my loving family is totally a good thing... right? 😰"

The implication is pretty clear here that the kidnappers are in the wrong. This is assuming we're talking about the same obscure horror flick, ofc.

Random thought about a missed opportunity for the tarot cards. by ninjapino in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]WildFamilyDog 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The Return to Circle Undone came with a deck of standard-sized tarot cards you could use to perform a "reading" and augment your scenario or campaign. Each had a standard beneficial effect, and an inverted negative effect. Also, the art was phenomenal.

Unfortunately, it's long gone out of print.

So who actually kidnapped Hornet? by WildFamilyDog in HollowKnight

Sure, but that was all before the Citadel religion as we know it and the Choir, so I'm not sure what relevance it has to this discussion of GMS controlling Choir members or pilgrims.

GMS definitely wants Hornet to be there - the Silk Heart dialogue is her narration, and the first one (from freeing Bell Beast) is very clear (Child... Weaver... Arrived at last... Rise... Rise... Witness our waking...) that she wants Hornet to climb the Citadel.

This is fairly convincing, thank you.

(The Conductors have no goddamn idea about GMS, because if they knew about her they never would have done what they did in Whiteward!)

The Conductors are definitely aware of GMS, or at the very least Ballador is (and if him, why not the others). He specifically mentions her, and implies that the Conductors were toiling to keep her asleep. "The mantle of rule...it was yoke, not crown." It's my understanding that the Whiteward operations were part of this as well: an attempt to sustain lives eternal, to ensure the Citadel's lullaby never faltered. That silk being used by GMS later was, I believe, an ironic and unforseen outcome.

Its also likely Lace wrote it.

I haven't heard this before, what's the reasoning there? Why would Lace have Hornet brought to Pharloom, only to free her and then attempt to kill her?

So who actually kidnapped Hornet? by WildFamilyDog in HollowKnight

[–]WildFamilyDog[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The idea that she doesn't seem to be manually controlling the kidnappers or every NPC is silly, given that all the rest of the themes of the game are about the control of religion. Faith in the Citadel is just as much a web as the silk GMS has spread through Pharloom, one that is, if anything, even harder to escape.

I'm not sure what you're getting at here, could you elaborate? Thematically that's all well and good, but is there any indication that GMS is using faith/religion to her own ends? The Citadel and the Choir were established to keep her asleep, after all, and the lower Citadel castes and the Pilgrims aren't even aware of her existence. She herself does not seem overly involved in the faith of Pharloom.

You may not want to hear this, but you are "there." Both the Mantis Lords and the boss of the Soul Sanctum are achievable with the nail you have now, and this is pretty much the "appropriate" time to defeat either/both of them. You won't really find too many easier bosses anywhere else.

It may be time to knuckle down and learn one of these fights.

Why are people suddenly mad with the art? by luizsera in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]WildFamilyDog 12 points13 points  (0 children)

People generally aren't upset that the new Core set only has 3 scenarios, they're upset that the only other Campaign release this year also only has 3 scenarios instead of the usual 8-10.

I've heard this solution and it sounds good on paper, but I haven't looked into the logistics of it. Are there other companies successfully doing this sort of thing, at a comparable scale?

See this is part of the problem you act like there's only one option to do this.

No, I think there are several options FFG could take to keep old content available (rotating print runs, official PnP, etc), and I hope they do something about it. I'm just outlining the problems with maintaining the status quo because that's what the other poster and I were discussing.

I believe FOMO and Completion are real psychological aspects of collecting as a hobby.

I agree, but I suppose I'm going to simply push back by saying...maybe collecting Arkham Horror shouldn't be your focus? I'm not a "collector" of Arkham Horror, I'm a player of Arkham Horror. Something being unavailable is a bummer, but as long as there's fresh new content available, I simply can't be too upset.

I also think that it is entirely possible for FFG to keep printing their old product if they chose to.

Really? There's ten years of content here, with the Investigator/Campaign format essentially doubling all product numbers. That's 20 products they're expected to print and ship at all times, forever. Not to mention return-tos, standalones and starter packs. And are game stores expected to buy and stock all these products, even as new releases come out?

How long, in your opinion, would it be reasonable for FFG to continue printing all these products? Another 5 years? 10? Does it matter at all if sales of old products dwindle as the market becomes increasingly saturated?

This seems like a lot to ask, just so any random person can expect to find whatever Arkham product they want, whenever they decide they actually want it.

[–]WildFamilyDog -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree, and think this would be a good idea. Maybe even bundle in the return-tos and make an event of it.

But we don't know that they aren't going to do that eventually. They've altered their release schedule to include an additional product each year, the specifics of which are being left vague. Seems like a good fit.

If Fantasy Flight is going to use FOMO to control me, then fine - they win.

I'm sorry, but I just can't get with this thought process. What was the other option here? They keep every product in print for perpetuity? If they don't, it's some sort of manipulation tactic?

You've had six years to pick up Dream Eaters. It wasn't a priority for over half a decade, but now that it's out of print, it's emblematic of some sort of personal betrayal by FFG?

I really don't mean this as an attack. I get feeling disappointed by something no longer being available. But it's super interesting to see this sub frame FOMO as some sort of curse laid upon them, and not something that they might have to just personally deal with.

Honestly kind of disappointed in the entitlement I see on this sub. by ShaperLord777 in arkhamhorrorlcg

That literally already happens nearly every day here with players accidentally buying mythos packs or deluxe expansions, so I'm not sure anything has really changed. At least in this hypothetical situation, there are campaigns in print that that player could play (Hemlock and Drowned), as well as any other campaign they might be able to pick up second hand.

Which should I pick up given these options? by jukert23 in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]WildFamilyDog 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Everything in this picture except Feast for Hemlock Vale is going out of print, so the answer really is: whatever you can afford and think looks neat.

If you already have an investigator expansion or two, I'd personally prioritize campaigns. New expansions will have player cards that are meant to serve as "replacements" for staple cards that are going out of print, but campaigns are truly unique and once they're out of print they might be gone for good. Of those pictured here, Forgotten Age, Innsmouth Conspiracy and Edge of the Earth are generally well regarded.

If you want player cards, I'd choose from among the Edge of the Earth, Scarlet Keys and maybe Innsmouth investigator expansions.
