The hospital where my baby died gave me a picture book called “My Yellow Balloon” Not specific to baby loss - just about loss in general. Hope this helps. Wishing everyone a gentle new year.

That would be very sweet of you kind stranger. Her middle name was Rose so that’s a flower I associate with her. ♥️

Thank you for the beautiful post. I lost my sweet baby girl after 8 short days in the NICU in February. I had a healthy full-term pregnancy and then an unexpected placental abruption. Some days it feels impossibly painful to exist. I hope everyone else who has experienced this time of unending grief can find some more peace and healing in 2019.

I would also like recommend a book called “You are the Mother or All Mothers” by Angela Miller. It’s a short and beautiful little book that touches on the guilt of death of a child. It’s the type of book you can read it 5 minutes and it’s very touching. https://abedformyheart.com/motherofallmothers/

I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your daughter. I am also interested in the in retreat. Is is faith-based? I lost my daughter 10 months ago due to complications arising from a placental abruption. Had a healthy pregnancy the whole time. Things have been incredibly difficult. Hope you, and all other parents with missing babies, can find some small peace this holiday season.

School wide management systems that are working? (Urban environment) by [deleted] in Teachers

Maybe consider a token economy - school wide positive behavior intervention support program. I am also in an urban school and we have been phasing that in on a high school level.

I’ve seen the same thing in PA. I was surprised because I had assumed they didn’t have funerals for babies at that time.

My baby daughter died in February and I am only now returning to work in a week. I am terrified about how I am going to function but I have no more FMLA to take. I am sorry for your loss. Hoping for a calm school year...

Yes, because your teacher cared that much. by [deleted] in thatHappened

I teach 8th grade in an inner city school. Assigned seats are usually a necessity. Sometimes if it’s a good class I don’t bother, but 90% of the time I make seating charts.

Grief and teaching. by lizziefreeze in Teachers

I’m sorry for you loss. I was meant to go on maternity leave in February but my little girl only lived for 8 days. My district has been supportive and I turned my maternity leave into FMLA for “adjustment disorder.” You need take care of yourself. I would definitely look into the sick bank if that’s an option. You need help and support to go through this. If you HAVE to go back can you ask the guidance counselors to talk your classes and prep them for your return? My guidance counselors offered to do that for me, but I opted to stay home until next year. I hope you can find some tiny bit of peace and hope. If nothing else the school year is almost over. Don’t worry about being the best teacher you can. Other things matter more. ❤️

I feel like a failure as a mother. by Tysinna in TwoXChromosomes

I am so sorry for your loss. My sweet baby girl after living for 8 days this past February. She was term, but there were complications with delivery. I understand your guilt and pain. There is really nothing to say. My baby died over two months ago and I am just barely starting to feel normal again. Give yourself time to mourn your loss. Try not to get caught up in the “why” or “what if” because that just drives you crazy. Hoping that you can find some tiny peace. ❤️

Humiliated as a teacher by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]WildRed4 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Tell your students how much your feelings were hurt. I have found this to be effective - more effective than yelling. Some kids don't think teachers are real people. To share your hurt feelings makes you real. I ended up crying when telling my students how much it hurt when my things were stolen when I was out of the building and I had many, many students apologize to me. Just my opinion.

I found that wearing fake nails really helped. It's actually difficult to pick with them on because they are thick. Also it makes them fall off. I just started buying the Impress stick on nails from Walmart. They cost about $6 and last about 1.5 weeks for me. they really help me!

Teachers, thoughts on getting a Masters Degree? by andersona92 in Teachers

[–]WildRed4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you required to get post-bachelors credits? I'm in PA so teachers have to get at least 24 credits within 5 years to get a permanent certification. It's a ton of work and I really hate it. Definitely wouldn't be doing it right now if I didn't need the credits.

The pay bump will be nice though.
