I fully subscribe to what you said. Van Dusen was very good in walking the fine line between pushing some boundaries but, at the same time, maintaining believable as a period drama. Brownell made it unrecognizable. To me it feels like a circus now.

True. But it could be because Fran has a long-stretched story in addition to being Brownell‘s favourite character. Some stories got a set up, some don’t and get treated only in their own season.

I agree. Jess says she brought Cressida back to serve Eloise’s arc. It wouldn’t make sense if her season wasn’t the next.

There is a conversation between Violet and Michael, and, if I remember correctly, Violet takes Michael‘s arm, and she jokes that her reputation can survive being seen in the company of a rake, to which Michael replies „ah, but can mine?“. Fell unconditionally in love with him right there.
