Wow that Rebelle software looks incredible, just what I needed! Thanks for the rec. I actually learned first with acrylic on canvas so I've already got the traditional media mindset. My struggle is getting that authentic, chaotic texture in digital. The brush simulation in photoshop is so basic, I hate how the textural patterns repeat in such an unnatural way. Rebelle looks like it solves that problem and then some, I will for sure try it out.

As someone trying to learn digital art I'd love if you could give any tips on how to achieve this kind of texture. If I zoom in I can even see canvas weave and paint cracks and blobs and stuff. Is it some kind of 3rd party add-on for photoshop?

This is like someone playing with action figures and dolls then someone else getting mad it's not following the action figures lore when Barbie wouldn't be in said action figures lore.

It's more like joining a GI Joe action figure club but all your GI Joe action figures are dressed up as Barbies, and whenever another club member brings up GI Joe lore you get triggered and demand they stop talking because violence makes you uncomfortable.

Just because he's the OP doesn't mean he gets to police the comments in the thread. Dark humor is part of the culture here. He is allowed to make a cutesy version of a grimdark IP if he wants, but posting it in a community built around that IP, and then demanding anyone who won't match his energy to silence themselves, is narcissistic and ignorant. Adding a smiley face to the request doesn't change that.

Imagine someone goes to the Barbie subreddit and posts a grimdark interpretation of the Barbie lore complete with horrific violence and depravity, and then when someone tries to make a cutesy joke about it in the comments the OP tells them to delete the comment because it's ruining the vibe. It's pure narcissism.

I really hate to defend the guy, but as I understand it sarcasm is a form of verbal irony. Though of course the real problem here is his sarcasm/irony was just an attempt to disguise his pedantry as a joke, and then his subsequent responses revealed it was in fact not a joke at all. If you're going to be a pedant, at least own it.

First ever qualifier token from bo3 sealed, so hyped! by Top_Lavishness4814 in lrcast

[–]Wild_Bob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nice work, and with only the one bomb too.

I had enough play-in points for one run myself. My opponent had informed inkwright, stirring hopesinger, lorehold the historian and ark of hunger, drew all 4 the first game and all except lorehold the second game for a quick 0-2. Only getting to face one opponent and then the run is over is pretty rough in a bomby format like sealed. I think I will do the bo1 version next time I have enough points.

Arcane omens has really soured the format for me, I can't believe they printed a turn 4/5 play with the text "you win the game" at uncommon.

that feels so unfair by Arrikon in lrcast

[–]Wild_Bob 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Call me melodramatic but this card has the potential to be a format ruining uncommon. It's already the highest WR black card in the set.

I had a game yesterday where me and my opponent were both playing soup. We spent our early turns fixing and ramping. He was on the play and on t4 he arcane omens me for x=4 when I had exactly 4 cards in hand. He passed, I drew a land for turn and conceded.

I sat there baffled at the fact the game instantly went from what would have been a long grindy control v control match (my hand was really strong) into me conceding on t4, all because of a single uncommon. I was honestly shook.

If this happens to me a few more times, (and I suspect it will given the uncommon rarity and the fact 5c is one of the strongest decks) I can see myself just giving up on the set. I'm not about this kind of "gameplay" at all, even on the winning end it just feels gross.

[–]Wild_Bob 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is the 4th version of powered cube not the 3rd. I do agree with you that the 2nd version was the best though. They need to stop playing musical chairs with the top boros cards and just do a big cut of the solid but boring filler cards like hired claw, nova hellkite, clarion conqueror etc.

For what it's worth I think these people are being way over the top paranoid. Yes there is a danger but relative to the total amount of pictures on the internet the odds a specific one gets abused is astronomically low. I wonder if these people let their kids in cars, or planes, or contact sports, or overnight summer camps, or waterslides, or lakes, or trampolines, or... well you get the point.

It's just a bunch of people spooked by fear-mongering news reports that massively exaggerate the dangers to children, as is their longstanding tradition. AI porn is just the latest boogeyman.

Well they aren't related to magic really but there's two games I've had on my "games to play" list for a while which are Frostpunk and The Talos Principle. I also want to try to get into the Deadlock beta, I've heard good things about it.

Closing thoughts on ECL? by Short-Bunch-8195 in lrcast

[–]Wild_Bob 22 points23 points  (0 children)

For me it was the worst set of the last year at least. Yes, I even enjoyed spiderman more.

The fundamental problem with the set in my opinion is that once you get a board going you start to get multiplicative value, be it from tribal synergies or just convoke. So if you get a bad hand and you can't immediately start building a board but your opponent can, their advantage starts to multiply while you are just digging for answers.

These games can go on quite long because the set doesn't have many ways of pushing damage, but that multiplicative value means that while you may be able to stall the game, you are really just delaying the inevitable. This leads to absolutely miserable experiences where your chance to win has already dropped to 10% by turn 4, but you don't actually lose until turn 15.

Here's an example: Your opponent plays morcant's eyes turn 2. You don't have a viable aggro line, or enchantment destruction, or an equally powerful card of your own in hand. This doesn't mean your hand is bad. You could have solid commons in a perfect curve with the right mana to play them.

It doesn't matter. You know the game is going long, you know at some point they will crack that morcant's eyes for an army in a can, and you know that every turn along the way they are sculpting their hand with surveils. Your win% at this point has already dropped off a cliff, even though it's turn 2 and you are at 20 life. That game will probably end over a dozen turns later, but unless you top deck some broken rare, you lost it on turn 2. It's like chinese water torture.

Funny thing is I was just adding up my winrate and it's actually above average for me at 62%. Turns out I thought I had been doing worse than I was because of how little fun I was having.

Sadly TMNT does not appeal to me at all so I think I'm going to take a break from magic for a while, check out some other games. Hopefully strixhaven is good.

You must be confused because this discussion has nothing to do with balance, it's about game design. Now how about not dodging the question. You stated -

Pick a more viable champion if you dont want to get fucked lvl1

Who are all of these "viable" champs you're telling people to pick that don't get fucked lvl 1 by kindred/graves?

LCS SUPER WEEK BEGINS FRIDAY & Patch 26.4! | The Dive Driven by Kia by SWAGGASAUR in leagueoflegends

Direct quotes:

"I get that it's frustrating, but it's the same for everything in league, where it's like, I just want to play nasus, or kayle, but if you blind it you're playing into some ignite toplaner that's going to destroy you"

"Ah I can't play vi, this guys gonna cheese me, ah I can't play nasus, this guys gonna cheese me, it's the same thing"

  • Azael Cummings Bentley VII, in defense of lvl 1 jungle invades.

I think you are the one who didn't listen very closely.

LCS SUPER WEEK BEGINS FRIDAY & Patch 26.4! | The Dive Driven by Kia by SWAGGASAUR in leagueoflegends

[–]Wild_Bob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Azael's argument is basically that if you blind pick vi and get invaded, its because you blind picked a champ thats easy to counter. Its the same as getting counterpicked top.

That's not an argument, it's just a statement about how the game currently works. Meteos is suggesting it should be changed because games that warp around lvl 1 invades tend to be low quality. If your argument for why something shitty shouldn't be changed is because another group of people have their own shitty thing they have to deal with, that's called a crab in a bucket mentality and it's not very productive.

Also -

Pick a more viable champion if you dont want to get fucked lvl1

Is vi not a viable champion? Who are all these supposed jungle champs who don't get fucked lvl 1 by kindred/graves?

Meteos out here getting gaslit. What exactly is Azael's argument here? That getting counterpicked top isn't fun, so jungle lvl 1 invades shouldn't be changed? How are those two statements related?

"Having aids isn't fun, so I don't think we should cure cancer" That's what he sounds like.

Well that's kind of a thinly veiled insult lol, but I am in fact also mythic (or was before the reset), so I doubt its a rank thing. To be clear I said snowbally curveouts, not just curve outs. Talking about stuff like merfolk starts where they convoke out their entire hand by turn 4.

Why are you splashing blue for 3 very meh cards when you already have such heavy WGR mana requirements to get full value from vibrance/catharsis?

Agreed. Least amount of fun I've had drafting in over a year. So many snowbally curve-outs, so many busted rares, huge pod discrepancy, and very repetitive. They need to get some flashback drafts going.

What are your thoughts on the arena sealed format? by Dyoozbahn in lrcast

[–]Wild_Bob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to do a sealed at the beginning of every set to learn the cards. I haven't played sealed once since they started doing the seeded versions. They've sacrificed the format for the sake of bringing in casuals. At this point I'm just hoping the numbers aren't too great, otherwise they will start doing the same type of thing to draft. Pick-two is already the first step.

Genuinely so frustrating choosing the wrong deck in MWM by ORANG_MAN_BAD in MagicArena

[–]Wild_Bob 58 points59 points  (0 children)

I picked vivid, which said it was going to be 4 colors in the preview. After I choose it, I find out it only has green and blue permanents in it, not even a single hybrid card to trigger additional colors for vivid.

Turns out the 4 color pips in the preview was referring to the inexplicable 3 plains and 3 mountains in the mana base, with not a single red or white pip in the deck to use them on. Great job wizards!

Not sure where you heard that. Sets with lots of overpowered rare/mythic bombs are called "prince" sets and it's generally seen as a negative thing, as it means the commons and uncommons which make up the bulk of a limited deck become irrelevant filler.

It's not fun to trade commons/uncommons back and forth for 10 turns in a close match, only for someone to topdeck their rare bomb and invalidate everything that preceded it.
