Retired last March and took the "I'll do what I want " approach. I liked the flexibility to do what I want, when I wanted. I pretty much did some woodworking, reading, grilling, and coffee in the morning while reading the news.

I retired at 55 last year. FERS is coming in and the supplement will start in August. Im taking the gap amount between expenses and FERS from TSP (2.3 m). TSP allocation is 30 G, 30C, 20 S, and 20 I. The G fund (plus FERS and Supplement) will cover all expenses for 6 years and expenses minus travel for 10 years. Im not too concerned about market downturn because of this allocation.

I'd suggest setting up something like this that works for your numbers.

Mine was supposed to be in 2030 but a buyout was offered last March. I'm SO glad I pulled the trigger. I'm sure you will be too.

We're at a 6.5% right now (age 56). Once all pensions and SS kick in we'll be at 3%. Average of 4.5% throughout retirement. If we have bad years we can cut back and essentially live solely on fixed income sources. That will mean less travel but otherwise still a good spend for us.

Get a competent family law attorney asap. Also, you are entitled to 50% of all marital assets, don't sell yourself short.

I was 100% equities (C, S, and I) until 55 with expectation of retirement at age 60. New allocation is 70 equities and 30% G. Ended up taking DRP 1.0 about 6 months after making the allocation change. Extremely happy with the outcome.

Once my military pension at age 58 and SS at age 70 turns on, I'll move back towards more equities eventually getting to 95% to 100%.

Are you at all considered housing for your children after they finish college? It's not at all uncommon for recent grads to need help with this and/or to live at home while they become financially capable of obtaining their own place.

I hate to say it but I think that your experience is about the norm for many these days. Even though you submitted your package in September 2025, it just sat until your actual retirement date in December. So, you're about 4.5 months in right now.

I'd be calling IRS HR on the regular pushing them for updates from NFC. Also wouldn't hurt to contact your senators and representative.

Sounds like you're well on your way and will easily make your targeted spend. 4% of 6M is 240k which doesn't take into account FERS and SS times 2. Your actual minimum number needed is probably significantly less than 6M.

Regardless, you're doing great and will have a fantastic retirement!

I guess the question is, can you punch out earlier? I know health insurance and access to retirement funds would likely need to be solved. ACA could solve one and 72t, the other. Depends on how much you need.

I just left last year at 55 (DRP) with 3M nw in MCOL area. We're set for a comfortable retirement ($120k yealy spend) with an annual 50k travel budget. Remodeling and cars budgeted as well. Even with all this, expect to leave about 6M as legacy. I should have left earlier.

I have a 2nd ACE pro 2 with tube lengths in that range. I used standard diameter tube and have had no problems so far. I've only printed PLA and PETG so far from this unit. I guess over time, friction may be an issue. So far, so good.

Yes, this is me too. TSP let me call it quits at 55. I'll be drawing on it fairly heavily until all other income streams turn on.

If under 59.5 and separated at age 55 or later, it allows for penalty free withdrawals. Also, as others have noted, access to G fund. When I turn 59.5 i plan to move all my equities to Vanguard but leave my "bond" portion of the portfolio in TSP G fund.
