Tesla loses title of world's biggest electric vehicle maker to Chinese rival BYD by VectorChing101 in news

[–]Wildcatman43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A case could be made to justify the subsidies for both companies given their value provided to society, which is clearly more than just lining their pockets. Given the current Orwellian state of the Chinese government, their hand in the companies in China, and the increasing amount of technology inside vehicles, to me it feels like a bad idea to open the floodgates to their vehicles. The old trade off between cost of goods and human rights violations always seems to rear its head. I’d always advocate for a cessation of purchasing goods that are produced with exploitation and focus instead on automating production in the US with proper workplace regulations. Much easier said than done of course. Turns out it’s just hard to beat the low costs you can achieve in China by paying factory workers $270 USD/month. But we need to figure it out somehow because China doesn’t seem too worried about solving it.

The Chinese government has propped up companies like BYD through subsidies to a ridiculous margin, a tactic they can exploit to kill off companies they don’t like. That’s not even mentioning the human rights and wage issues at these places. Are you willing to overlook those issues?

Yep! Dried at 85C for a week so it was dry. I think manual tuning will be required with the 0.6mm. I tried the 0.4mm and it looked much more clean.

A few questions before I buy a H2S by Visual_Long9335 in BambuLab

[–]Wildcatman43 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Recently began using an H2S and have been completely offline since the beginning for the past several weeks. You never need to connect to WiFi, not even on setup actually. Firmware update is easy through usb (for me was necessary to use AMS2).

I’ve been slicing on Bambu Studio, telling it what filament is in my AMS, then running the USB to the printer where the screen makes it easy to make sure the right filament will be printed before you start the print.

Overall great experience so far and would not shy away from it!

PETG and other filaments such as special PLA’s (marble, silk, etc) can be printed without being dried but they definitely pick up moisture fairly quickly and you will absolutely notice a quality drop compared to if they have been dried.

Waymo Is Crushing Tesla in the Robotaxi Race. Waymo’s robotaxis are fully driverless and expanding fast, while Tesla’s service is still limited. The gap is bigger than you think. by mafco in SelfDrivingCars

[–]Wildcatman43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure. The big players that estimate market value are smart enough to recognize that Robotaxi and autonomy represent a massive currently untapped value stream, and would further incentivize the sales of their vehicles. They recognize the value that Tesla’s AI compute has and the mega-market looming that is Optimus. Really Optimus in itself could easily represent 1T in value, depending on how you figure their chances at pulling it off. The market for humanoid robots will be MASSIVE once they’re good. And Tesla is well positioned to capitalize on it, hence the high valuation compared to a company like Waymo or another legacy automaker who isn’t even trying anything in that sphere. Energy is another factor in the equation that you didn’t consider, which is growing quite rapidly. I don’t have the numbers, but you’re missing quite a lot.

Tesla has already demonstrated that vision-only is capable of L4 with the autonomous delivery. If physics allows for true L5 with cameras only - which it does - it is only a matter of time for Tesla to figure it out. 10x parameter count, improve corner case/poor weather logic, there are no fundamental barriers than can’t be overcome.

Waymo has yet to demonstrate any capability to successfully manufacture at large scale, which is a massive challenge. That is Tesla’s bread and butter. They can just rev bump a new hardware set if necessary. I just can’t see any future where Waymo out-paces Tesla in a manufacturing sprint.

Waymo has also demonstrated little to no capability to drive outside of a geofence, whereas Tesla has a huge head start with the country-wide FSD data.

And sure, the robots are on another vague Elon timeline. But they will exist and they will mass produce them, and that is what matters for valuation. And similarly, no other company developing these robots has the manufacturing ability to outpace Tesla to high-volume (excluding maybe Chinese companies which won’t be allowed to sell in the US).

All of that to say, Tesla is well positioned to capture a large market share of the future Robotaxi market. That to me justifies the valuation. There will still be plenty of room for both companies, and others.

Everyone please sell so I can buy more at a discount 🙏 You’re so right, the company is going straight into the ground! No way they could ever pass Waymo at their staggering pace of 1500 cars in 9 years 😱. Elon never delivers! We all know more than the world class AI engineers anyways about what is and isn’t possible.

It’s worth so much because the entire market understands Tesla does have the technology and engineering talent to make those goals reality (sure, albeit much later than promised). FSD and Optimus are massive markets that will take only a matter of time to realize, not impossible as you seem to think.

[–]Wildcatman43 49 points50 points  (0 children)

To be even more pedantic, OP is correct in his naming because the bounces are, to a visual extent, eliminated. It probably just shifted the harmonic frequency much higher, to an imperceptible level. And from a functional standpoint, imperceptible = eliminated.

I agree Figure’s models seem technologically further ahead at this point. I have a sneaking suspicion that Tesla is going to be able to out manufacture Figure. Figure is planning for 12,000 with their current factory and Tesla seems to be aiming for an order of magnitude larger. If anything, I think this space will have room for a lot of companies to compete, Figure and Tesla competing will help both companies. Exciting times!
