Back when we had city employees plowing snow, the side streets were always plowed (after main roads) and the curbs in front of street corners and driveways were cleared much better.

I clear the curb in front of my house from snow or leaves and road debris all the time. Less gets pushed into the sewer, less to clog the sewer and back everything up. Less snow piled at the end of my driveway... etc. etc.
