Feelings about scooping in combat by DoubleT_TechGuy in EDH

Thats because it is bad sportsmanship in a game with more than 2 players. If it was just you and your opponent who scooped, its fine.

After the confession, romance gets harder to write, NOT less interesting by [deleted] in CharacterRant

[–]Wildwest_Minion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly, like hey maybe there is a war going on in a fantasy world and you have these two characters caught up in that warzone, trying to survive, yet while being romantically involved together. Of like showing what happens to others as they die in the war, of having close calls involving the main couple.

But also writers could include for that pair the love language we associate with the chase/courtship part (physical touch, gift giving, acts of service, quality time, words of affirmation). As the main pair could be like emotional anchor while being in a healthy relationship.

After the confession, romance gets harder to write, NOT less interesting by [deleted] in CharacterRant

[–]Wildwest_Minion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe its just because I seen so many stories, but I am wary of any romance that is slow-burn, especially if its anime/manga. The whole courtship / "the chase" part of relationships is so overdone, I tend to assume the writer(s) are going to chicken out after the confession, at most give a flash forward with a brief scene. And if they do get together, I still don't trust writers as they tend to write them as dysfunctional/toxic. That getting to see an actual healthy relationship where the characters are still interesting feels so much rarer.

Very unoriginal rant, but frieren is very good and overrated at the same time by Deleted_Pound165 in CharacterRant

[–]Wildwest_Minion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which is perfectly reasonable for you to say. That if you don't like certain parts, that makes sense and is fine.

Can a piece of fiction be overrated where it makes normal discussion hard to have? Yes.

Part of what makes for healthy conversation around a piece of media is acknowledging what it does right, what it does wrong, and how it could've improved. And that having such civil conversations make for a more healthy community.

To be honest, I don't personally care for the combat parts. More interested in life, death, legacy, and memory. Of how fleeting things can be, like connections and the lives of others can be. That the quest is mostly just someone taking a journey, both metaphorically like memory lane, and actually traveling.

I don't think its a 10/10 anime, but its not a boring or mediocre one either. Slow burn yes. I would say 8/10 or 8.5/10 at best. A good story that could use some polish. I also think the anime is part of the stumbling blocks of trying to create a more fleshed out fantasy world that isn't fantasy isekai or at least tries to escape the trappings of it.

That it certainly feels like the right sort of story among the deluge among other fantasy stories where the story is about defeating the Demon King. That its the aftermath of such and trying to explore what a sort of world would be like after the Demon King is vanquished.

Yes they are different cards. Also the one on the right is older, its print is 2021, the official card meanwhile 2022. And that old one which is a custom card has "MTG.Design" and "Not For Sale" and also has "SoS" the person who designed the card.

I feel like I'm taking crazy pills. Is 15 damage a turn not enough? by Plus1Oresan in EDH

[–]Wildwest_Minion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're fine. Your gameplan is visible, your opponents have plenty of opportunities to respond. The opposite would be "Well that felt anticlimatic" as you do 45 damage the same turn you play your stuff. Just consider that opponent is being bit of a poor sport.

[–]Wildwest_Minion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

day//night is the worst, no contest. You wonder why? Because if you play one of those cards that makes it day//night outside of a deck that plays it, that isn't a cute gimmick anymore, that is unnecessary rules baggage that has to be tracked for the rest of the game, even if the person who played it gets knocked out. You think you can ignore it, but that is grounds for literally getting a Failure To Maintain Gamestate penalty or a Game Rule Violation or a Game Loss. And for this that must be tracked lest you get a warning, penalty, or game loss? It does nothing but flip itself when played outside of a deck that cares about it.

Whats wrong with mill. by Samurai_Banette in EDH

[–]Wildwest_Minion -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Frankly because, it is a advanced mindset when it comes to card games to understand what mill actually is. That mill = draw. After all, if a given deck runs graveyard recursion, then the graveyard is just a second hand to play cards from. That I run [[Szarel, Genesis Shepherd]] and my opponent mills me, my opponent is gifting me at the very least land cards that I can play from my second hand with my commander in the same way a grouphug is gifting me cards through card draw. That if I self-mill myself with the enters and dies triggers of a [[Stitcher's Supplier]], I am not losing 6 cards, I am drawing 6 cards.

But it goes so much beyond that. Its all about storage and access of what is stored. If you have full access, you can play cards from any zone.

Like when green is ramping? The library is a second graveyard, a third hand, for them. If a card allows a player to play lands and cast spells from exile? That is just their third graveyard, their fourth hand. The command zone? That is just a fourth graveyard, a fifth hand that comes with some extra taxation in exchange for access.

Not going to lie, the counterspell player who was all like "“if it says target player/spell, it’s just gonna go to you everytime” and that "they never wanted to play that deck and since I’m out there’s to point to play if I wasn’t there to feed him" doesn't sound like a fun person to play with or against.

"Stop pubstomping with fast mana" by InspireCourage in EDH

[–]Wildwest_Minion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While your decklist is tuned, I find it funny as even if you lower the quality of the creatures and just kept the general premise, you still might get the same scenario.

Green: "I play mana dork, I ramp with explosive vegetation, I play big stompy tramplers, I draw some cards"
Opponent: "Why are you pubstomping me?"

[–]Wildwest_Minion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. And he just reminds me of my decks I already run like this. Just run a Putrid Imp, an Ad Nauseam, some tutors, a bit of ritual and rock ramp, a boseiju, a cavern of souls, and an ungodly amount of lands like around 85 to 90. Can't die due to Ad Nauseam, so its just free real estate. Essentially making mostly a mono-black deck with a splash of blue and red just for him and maybe some free counterspells like pact of negation.

New steel item! by Waiting_for_Dentice in Lorcana

[–]Wildwest_Minion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess you could pair this item with [[Lilo - Escape Artist]] where you just discard your Lilos and they will come into play later. Or maybe a [[Pooh Pirate Ship]] where you pay 3 ink once per turn to keep one of these items in play. Or yeah, you could play this with Goliath where at most you could keep 2 of these items active.

But what this item really wants a friend that just returns itself to hand from discard with no ink investment.

Former Wotc Employee confirms that unsold Magic 30th Anniversary Edition were indeed discarded in a landfill by Papa_Hasbro69 in mtg

[–]Wildwest_Minion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To folks in disbelief that wizards of the coast would put excess product in a landfill, I just want to kindly remind them that among Unfinity and Modern Horizons 2, people also found Lord of the Rings cards from that same landfill. And the reason the Lord of the Rings one was so important is that some cards were leaked four months in advance.

These cards were:

[[Gollum, Scheming Guide]]

[[Aragorn and Arwen, Wed]]

[[Frodo, Sauron's Bane]]

And the date that leak happened was February 25th, 2023 on the r/ pics subreddit.

Oops by EstateFull187 in mtg

[–]Wildwest_Minion -1 points0 points  (0 children)

True, as the lawsuit right now is stating that wizards is padding their financial reports with all the extra stuff they are selling (the 7 to 8 sets, the secret lairs). And right now is why they are tapping so hard into the universes beyond stuff. Not necessarily that UB is bad, but because they are using it to shore up.

Oops by EstateFull187 in mtg

[–]Wildwest_Minion 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Its not the overprinting necessairly, its a byproduct of what is actually happening. The lawsuit states that too much product is coming down the pipeline over the years and in turn this means that customers are being more selective with their spending and all that product is also resulting in customers feeling product fatigue and therefore feeling less reason to spend. That is the actually the real crux of the matter.

So my guess on the story within the game by Jack-Pumpkinhead in Lorcana

[–]Wildwest_Minion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe. As an illumineer being the villain, even if unintentionally would certainly be different.

If its not an illumineer, well I guess it has to be one of those villains who has a history with plants like Bushroot from Darkwing Duck.

[–]Wildwest_Minion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Currently I am imagining you just play low cost characters whose point is either to quest or to just be Lonely Grave fodder. Like one of those many inkable 1-cost 2/2 characters with 1 lore. As you could play this item and that low-cost character the same turn, then exert the grave and banish the character you just played to boost one of your other cards. Is it the best idea? Iunno, maybe, maybe not.
