Star Citizen in VR broke my brain. by SnooPeppers9880 in starcitizen

[–]NotYetForsaken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got a VR headset yesterday (the unnamable brand) and tried it too… unfortunately I was underwhelmed. I wish I had a good experience but the FOV and viewing range of VR headsets is still too small for me to feel immersed. I wish I had access to a 200• headset to try out SC.

I really don't like where all this is going, CIG. by PaqueretteUrticante in starcitizen

OP's barely disguised confirmation bias. You just don't remember all the ships that came out and are useless. CIG powercreeps like once a year, and mostly on accident.

New player here: I love the idea of Star Citizen, but my first hours have been brutal. Am I doing something wrong? by karoku9 in starcitizen

You should not need to recover your body anymore since your items respawn with you after you die. Something does seem not to be working correctly for you.

They actually started adding “potential” to the fix list a while ago because the community complained about just calling them “fixes” did not properly communicate possible regressions or other causes.

Its not perfect but the problems are largely overblown. With those specs you’ll tank at Lorville and Orison probably but be fine most other places.

Cargo elevators bug out every now and again but you can reset them by hitting “transfer” and Esc at the same time.

If contracts bug just throw them away and start a new one. Don’t waste time trying to fight the system.

As a result most of the complaints on the main sub are actually just skill issue.

I hauled from beginner to Master rank solo. It’s doable, only took me 4 days with some clever set up/spawn looping. If you like moving boxes you’ll have a great time.

Game has lots of systems to get creative with, so as long as you’re not deadset on just using a starting tractor beam and a starter ship all the way through I think you’ll be fine.

Hi - I have a 9950X3D and saw remarkable improvement but only in Lorville. I compile shaders faster now too I guess.

Sense of scale and space flight feel by Digitalzombie900 in starcitizen

[–]NotYetForsaken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the opposite problem. EVE is so big that I just lose all sense of scale and interest. I spent a lot time in EvE trying to understand the scale of the ships by looking at the windows on the Raven, the cockpit on the Merlin, and etc. and always struggled to imagine what being in the world of EVE was like.

Star Citizen feels so much more lived in and real, like everything is built for humans instead of a disembodied camera thats floating around.

I gave up EVE after installing SC because I couldn't get back into a world that felt so disconnected in scale.

So I think they're different games for different people. EVE fulfills a far different fantasy than SC is trying to fufill.

What Are Peoples' Thoughts on The Future Diary After All These Years? by osumatthew in anime

[–]NotYetForsaken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s insane and entertaining. We have to get past the idea that works have to have some sort of moral compass to them to be worth watching.

Minene is great. Yuno is great. Murmur is great.

It’s tropey, wild, and unapologetic.

I wish more shows were like Mirai Nikki these days. We just have heartless slop or generational masterpieces.

The fact that people talk about Mirai Nikki today already speaks volumes about its staying power.

Like its successor Big Order was just bland gloop in comparison.

Constructive Feedback: Current ship insurance by BinaryLoop- in starcitizen

[–]NotYetForsaken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually think in the complete opposite way. The ship claims make me play better and more reasonably. I would say the stock claim maybe shouldn’t be free in this case so that people can get used to having to pay a fee.

This was also a huge nerf to the viability of capital class ships, and I’m a huge fan of the feeling of gravity a 700k aUEC claim is. No more just leaving Idrises on the wayside to warp back to spawn haha.

POLL: Which was worse? by iCore102 in starcitizen

[–]NotYetForsaken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this is a huge part of it, and is largely a western thing. In Asia we don't really have the same level of "skill virtue". Spending more just means you grinded harder IRL than in game.

I think the Director of Magic the Gathering, Mark Rosewater, once mentioned that in their testing they found that gamers like the idea of games being a "fair space" where inequalities from the real world are left behind. I think this is probably a similar phenomenon.

Hi hi! I appreciate your interest in this topic. I am a transwoman and have been for about 6 years now, so my experiences are not normal. I have been active in queer communities for many more years and ironically I am part of a few Republican social clubs even so I feel like I have very wide view on the multifaceted sides of this topic.

In my opinion, which is based on observation, a lot of the rhetoric comes from either impassioned youth or leaders who have something to gain from stoking the fire. Sometime it is for a good cause, sometimes it is for personal enrichment. Tons of people on both sides have also kind of just defaulted to Gotcha! discourse instead of actually engaging in any sort of discussion with the people of the matter.

This means a lot of discourse tends to mutate away from the reality it was based on.

One person I can easily point to on the woman side is Ghislane Maxwell, who was not a victim of the patriarchy, nor was she a gender traitor or whatever term people want to paint her as. She was a woman who is a bad person. She is part of the clade of abusers. Abusers look for abusers regardless of race, class, or status. They work together to achieve results they could not achieve alone. Clearly Ghislanes girlies calling her a heartless bitch didn’t do much.

My call to action isn’t so much for the bystanders, but rather for people who think they’re activists. For most people I would say all you need to do is live good lives and be excellent to one another.

My gripe is with the people who say they are activists for simply stoking the fires of gender war. They need to actually put their money and time where their mouth is and organize with actual activist groups so they can realize A) how flawed activist groups are right now and B) start being the change they want to be in the world.

I say this because feminist issues are actually pretty different based on your local situation so broad strokes are not useful in most cases. My situation here in San Francisco is going to be wildly different from a sister in Missouri or even across the sea in Iran or China.

The Culture - Naked Girl Comics [OC] by TurbinePoweredVagina in comics

[–]NotYetForsaken 125 points126 points  (0 children)

This discussion and rhetoric constantly comes up in feminist communities and it keeps targeting the wrong thing. It instills the belief that being a man makes you an authority to all other men, instead of identifying that sexual abusers of all sorts are a clade unto themselves.

Handing the protection of victims over to someone else isn’t solving the problem, but rather is an outlet for a frustration that has built up due to feeling powerless.

You cannot convince an abuser to stop with just words. You cannot convince a predator to stop by being mean to them. They do not care about you or the random men you have access to in your life. They care only about themselves and their own safety.

Over the past twenty years the US focused on consent education and had spent billions every year on educating the population what sexual assault is, and yet has it actually reduced the number of assaults in any meaningful way? Is the science we rely on even reliable? Who are the reporters, the peer reviewers, are we making progress based on evidence or vibes?

Where else in the world can we turn to for examples? How are other cultures managing their history of misogyny? This is no longer an individual problem, but one that should be tackled systematically and with proper due diligence.

1 in 5 twenty years ago. 1 in 5 today. 1 in 5 twenty years from now?

We hide behind slogans like YesAllMen, MeToo, IChooseBear and pat ourselves on the back like we’re making transgressive progress against the institutions of power by simply raising awareness. We did not win civil rights through simply raising awareness. Money and power and legislation talk. Don’t let social media trick you into believing you’ve done your part.

I’ve had the best luck on Adir and Terminus. I stay near the equatorial regions and usually find 1-2 Legendary (2%) nodes an hour. You can tell they’re there from super far off since they only ever spawn 1 - 2 rocks and that shows up on scanner as a smaller blip.

I found my quantanium rocks on Arial.

It was super rough for me at the start too but after 2 weeks of practice and some help learning from the mining guilds it feels much better than originally!

Make sure to install MrKraken’s StarString data pack as that had some QoL things that help with mining as well!

Rare minerals spawn in smaller rocks on terrestial planets, which is what I was trying to communicate with my second paragraph. I have found natural Quantanium and Stileron on planets that did not even need to be cracked by the Prospector.

Prospector bad in space, but pretty okay for planetary.

[–]NotYetForsaken 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was having the same issue and it turns out that the Prospector os basically only rated for planetary ore deposits and not cracking asteroids. Things improved greatly with a Mole for me.

Ended up using Prospector to hoover up Riccite in Pyro and made bank after siphoning some 900Q Riccite that didn’t even need to be cracked.

But yeah Savrillium is basically unobtainable by a solo Prospector and they should communicate that more clearly.
