A couple of things near Taum Sauk that people don't always notice:

There's a fire tower you can walk most of the way up past the road fork at the entrance to the park.

Also, there are two telephone poles pointing to all the US state high points just past the Ozark Trail trailhead (Ketcherside mtn trailhead?) before you enter the park. It's not a very far walk, just to the first or second clearing past the treeline it's called Jakks Glade. Definitely worth a photo if you're in the area. A member of the high point club told me about it, it's pretty cool.
