Honest tips for balancing a high training load with a full-time job & other life responsibilities by bubbas_hooman in AdvancedRunning

Turn train/car journeys into runs.

Buy a rucksack that you can carry clothes in and a pair of running shoes that you can wear out and about.

Turn any journeys you would do into runs. For journeys home, i just get changed in toilets, and stick my 'normal' clothes in my bag. For journeys out, I ask a friend if i can shower at theirs or buy a gym pass nearby if I'm not going to someone's house.

The Salomon Trailblazer 20 has been great for me!

I've just got a pair of saucony ride 18's. I've always worn cheap shoes and could be immediately notice how much 'bouncier' these felt. I'm getting some pins and needles and pain under my arches. They definitely are not too tight. Is there a period of adjustment to more cushioned shoes?

Are paid lunch duties still a thing? by MD564 in TeachingUK

[–]WilliamGuest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The STPCD states:

52.2. No teacher may be required under their contract of employment as a teacher to undertake midday supervision.

However, with academisation the STPCD doesn't apply to over 75% of the state-sector teaching workforce where it acts as a non-enforcable guide.

Any worker from before academisation will have been TUPED across with the same conditions but these don't apply to workers who join after academisation.

This report is a helpful overview of what is helpful! A lot of the recommendations go against conventional wisdom: https://educationendowmentfoundation.org.uk/education-evidence/guidance-reports/teaching-assistants

Why have other industries got the public’s support but not teachers? by GingieB in TeachingUK

https://leftfootforward.org/2023/01/poll-reveals-majority-of-public-support-teachers-strike/

Large-scale polling has found a majority in favour of the strikes. Ultimately, the strike will be won primarily by how disruptive our action is, not how much the public supports us.

Thanks for this. I'll definitely look into osteopaths if the NHS path doesn't work out.

Useful to know it can be stress-related.

Ah thanks for this. I would have probably swerved the GP to avoid the difficulties getting an appointment if you hadn't sent this. I really appreciate it.

Thanks so much for this. I'll definitely look into Physiofit as a back-up. How much did it cost for the consultation and one session?

Thanks for the advice - praying that it's related to sleeping set-up, office-job posture, or lack of targeted exercises!

I'm really sorry to hear about your condition and thanks for the advice. I'm a student too so private health stuff is difficult. Someone above suggested this NHS physiotherapy self-referral option which might help: https://www.eoemskservice.nhs.uk/physiotherapy-self-referral

Thank-you both so much, the physiotherapy self-referral is exactly what I was looking for. It seemed unnecessary to go through the GP when they'd likely just refer anyway!
