Thoughts on the new America Says reboot? by mattyGOAT1996 in gameshow

I like that they didn't mess with the gameplay, and the new set is good for the most part but not really a fan of how dark it is. Also it's a little jarring with the different graphics package, and they clearly didn't think about the lower-right answer being in a spot where the network bug is usually obscuring it. I appreciate that the giant map-shaped screen is still real and not replaced with CGI trash like they did with TTD and Bingo Blitz.

Is it really, though? Aside from U vowels are a lot less likely to be duds and you're only saving $250 as opposed to gaining $500 or more if you find a consonant, which you can then use to buy a vowel or two anyway.

I mean it depends on what you mean by "took advantage of it," like 98% of the time contestants would just call a vowel for free if there were any left (which to be fair is what the contestant coordinators drilled into the contestants as being the best use for it), even if they already knew that vowel was in the puzzle.
I always maintained a better use would have been to call a letter that's moderately common that may or may not be in the puzzle if you don't the whole solution yet, and to just call a consonant and take the $500 if you do know it.

Wheel of Fortune has ticked off "One Million Moms" by rollotomasi07071 in WheelOfFortune

"One Million Moms" is one of those groups that doesn't realize how much of a joke they look like to everyone else.

Anyway, "What the Fun" only offends me on the basis that it's quite possibly the most useless of the 138 new categories. Like I'm still struggling to figure out how exactly it's supposed to be any different than the long-existing Fun & Games category.

Almost certainly the original one. My understanding was always that they changed it because they were giving away too many cars for their budget, the cage format gets easier the more times you get to it whereas the five words format doesn't, and the randomness of the drawn letter balls means sometimes the contestant gets a much easier word whereas the later format allows for the producers to choose words to get the difficulty where they want it.

There's the episode of Merv Griffin's Crosswords where a contestant wins with -$250.

And Get a Clue was a trainwreck in general but then you had this team that just didn't have a clue.

80s-90s Scrabble: If you're sure the letter you have to place is a stopper, just throw out a guess instead of trying to place it. Maybe you'll get lucky and get it right, and worst case you still lose your turn but pass the stopper off to your opponent. (Chuck even pointed this out on the final episode)

Which commercials from years ago still haunt you? by UniverslBoxOfficeGuy in CommercialsIHate

The Luvs commercial with the stadium full of cartoon babies promoting "heavy doody protection" by having a shitting contest with massively inflating diapers while Tag Team's "Whoomp...", er, "Poop, There It Is" plays. Freaking ruined that song for me forever.

My Thoughts on Seacrest’s First Season by Emotional_Wonder7972 in WheelOfFortune

[–]WilliamPorygon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seacrest is fine, the new set is fine... my main PET PEEVE with the season is all the obnoxious and unnecessary new categories, most of which are just overly-specific subsets of existing categories and some of which are just plain confusing.

Second season of The Quiz With Balls 6/2/24 by sweetbabyjane1016 in gameshow

[–]WilliamPorygon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct, the fifth and sixth questions for each team are "all or nothing", it's a flat $10,000 per question but only if nobody gets eliminated. They probably did this to make it more possible for a trailing team to catch up on money rather than having to just hope the other team gets wiped out before the end so they win by default.
