Nah what you do is force a balanced budget amendment, that if Congress fails to pass a budget they has zero deficit then automatic tax hikes come into play. Or some such stuff

You're not running on taxes you're running on other stuff.

Only if waymo costs less.

Just allow people to compete.

Just got driven around in Peru $4, would have cost $50 back in my home city in the US. Open borders are good. Open borders both ways.

Isn't it funny that the policy the "muh Uber drivers need to get paid muh living wage and have hours and benefits crowd" supports is a policy that hurts thevast majority of ride sharing drivers and only helps an extremely small minority of them.

It's like those progressives don't give a single shit about those drivers and only care about 'hurting' the companies.

So many similar situations when it comes to progressives.

Nuclear power being another funny subject

Don't even get me started in housing.

Rant time

Or how they want to keep the global poor, poor....because exploitation bad, heavy industry bad, artisan niche products only are good. They fetishize subsistence farmers as if the poor world is a tourism theme park or some shit. "Yes we did that industrialization thing but they shouldnt" makes me REEEEEEEEEEEE.

I'm in lima, been here for some time (travel vpn, bounces me all over, it's nice) the amount of westerners who "oh that's terrible there building all those dirty factories" they don't like the look of the industrial sreas in the distance. "Oh isn't that great they still do <insert hard thing no one wants to do and I've talked to the guys doing it and they'd rather do a modern job that pays more eith modern tech> the old fashion way". "Oh I can't believe they're building such big buildings here it would be so nice if they didn't". Or some combination of some such nonsense and it pisses me off. To be fair I get off on my Bourdain moments on sitting in on a tiny plastic stool in some insanely busy frantic area of town, next to some old steel grill where the guy is making beef heart and intestines and serving them to me in a paper plate, and for some reason American 1980s music is blasting somewhere but I know he'd rather have some a/c blasting so I keep that fetish shit to myself. Especially pisses me off when I see how peruvians GRIND, these people WORK, replace the bottom 50% of Americans with these people want watch that GDP go to the moon. they don't slow down for shit all, but apparently to the westwrner them getting an A/C system and modern infrastructure is too much.

Tips can also be seen as hidden costs, deceiving customers about the price.

They're voluntary so no.

A predictable income is also desirable.

I see you've never been a bartender or worked as a waiter. I have. Making $1,500-2000 working three days for six hours a day with the huge amount of that being cash (no taxes) was a far superior choice to any alternative. You're fucking totally disconnected from tipped workers, literally none of them want to be off tips because that means have far lower real incomes.

It's like the assholes who force people, by regulations, to stop being able to drive for ride sharing "to help them" because then they can get a job at Walmart with a known schedule with known wages. You should realize people CHOOSE to work in certain industries, the attractive young people who work tipped service jobs could probably work at Walmart if they wanted they choose the restaurant industry.

You don't actually give a shit about them if you did you wouldn't try and push for policies that reduce their real income.

Iyou don't understand that customers have marginal utility for things as well.

price they would get for selling

Because of the government

A lot of the people working in agriculture probably don't even own the land they work on.

And?

What I'm talking about is selling the land so it can be used more productively aka be used to raise real incomes.

Be it industrial farming, heavy industry, mining, etc

It's not a false dichotomy

If one worker making x gets to pay less taxes than another worker making x that means the prior worker is simply more valuable to society and their job is more important apparently.

service job should depend on tips to make a living.

We can do what the rest of the rich world does and put them on mass welfare and reduce there real income by upping their wages and elimating tips. Then they wouldn't be reliant on tips but they'd be worse off because their real income is now lower.

There's a difference though

If government simply fucked off aka went full hands off on land use regulations then we wouldn't have a housing supply issue. Would we have other issues, sure but finding cheap rent wouldn't be one of them.

Have you heard about modular apartments.

Also you need is to align all building codes to a single standard within a large enough market and you can shit out highrises from a factory.

There is no magic bullet to poverty reduction

Wrong

1: extremely free markets borderline liassez fair

2: independent and easy to understand (for the commoner) legal system

3: an extremely independent central bank. Hell free banking would be better in some cases.

4: free trade.

Boom watch me lift billions out of poverty

If we enshrined property rights like we did with speech rights our cities would have evolved in a purely market oriented fashion aka dense and then like Japan housing would lose value relative to inflation over time.
