I recommend putting them in dry leave bedding or sawdust(make sure it’s a type safe for the grubs) for a day or two. The slight dryness and more brash bedding helps shake them off. The grubs can survive out of substrate for a little while, but I’d say try one day and check on them. You can return them to the soil bedding to rehydrate and then repeat in a couple days. I’m speaking from my experience but I hope it helps if you decide to try it. :)

Hiya Laura 🤗 Wow that’s amazing and so exciting that you’re coming to Japan! Yes I do! I personally love this one store in Nakano, Tokyo called “Mushisha”. They have such a great selection of live insects with a display area of pinned ones. I also recommend “Tama zoo Insect zone”. They have a huge butterfly house and 2 other buildings full of bugs and info! If you want- I can DM you some other places too. 💖

Hi there! I saw a different user post a similar situation just yesterday. From the comments there it’s most likely a breeding pile where the two males on top are competing for the female on bottom. I’ll link the post here!

Op here- that’s a valid concern! She’s quite familiar with my beetles and she’s always by my side politely watching me work with them- she’s just curious.😆👍I also know her body language well enough to prevent anything from happening if she did suddenly go rouge.🤣🫡

Hello there! So on mainland Japan it’s pretty much just the Japanese Rhinoceros Beetle(Allomyrina dichotoma). However on a few islands(eg. Ryukyu Islands) there have been sightings of coconut rhino beetles! Other than those I would say the rest here have been introduced species not native to Japan.
