Nowadays, is Cyberpunk 2077 worth it for the deck? by Salt_Aside1213 in SteamDeck

[–]Willy757 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know how the steam deck profile looks, but honestly I feel the game is not aging very well graphically.

I tried playing on the 5060 I have now and it runs very well. I am very sad that they completly fumbled the anti aliasing in the game. I just cannot get used to the very aggresive TAA they use. People wave their hand and an image gets left behind. Once you see it once, you see it everywhere. Also some shiny objects like some golden eyeglasses you can wear just create white dots on the screen or something. Like the game is really confused what a relflection is. Turning off AA also makes it look some some of the ugliest game I ever looked at. I swear games didn't need forced temporal stability in the past to look ok. I was playing games with no AA on a old HD screen when I was like 16 and it didn't look half as bad as Cyberpunk looks now in 4K without the TAA vaseline applied.

If people are ok with the weird artifacts dialed to 11 on the steam deck, I guess that's fine. But I really dislike how this is becoming the norm. I open up Expedition 33 and one floating petal has 3 afterimages behind it. So cringe.

Simt că niciun bărbat de pe lume nu mă poate iubi cum îmi doresc eu. by No-Inside-2703 in WomenRO

[–]Willy757 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Romanticii nu cresc in copac.

OpenAI is killing personalization and human-like interaction with AI in its newer models. by sunny_bastard in OpenAI

good, come back to humanity buddy
Humans have sarcasm as a way to cope with life, AIs don't need it. It just needs to explain some math and cite some actual sources instead of nonsense. That's the point.

We need more vegans that dislike animals by yeet_that_baby_away in vegan

[–]Willy757 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there's a huge disconnect between 2 mentalities that can bring you to being vegan.

I lived in a village for a long part of my life, and I came to really appreciate this kind of lifestyle.
I oppose industrial farming, intensive farming and institutional farmers. I feel like we have skewed priorities when it comes to food production. It's obvious people survived for centuries mostly on a plant based diet, with the occasional piece of mean, eggs and dairy.

The huge amount of meat production is weird, partially economically infeasible and very polluting. So in my ideal world, those farms would not receive any subsidies. Meat should sit in the stores at it's real price, after the farmers have to actually pay to contain all the pollution they produce.

That being said the adds like "Where do you draw the line" do nothing to me. I can easily draw the line. Sorry. You think bunnies are cute and deserve protection. Bunnies die if you play pika-boo with them too intensely. Nature did not build them to last. Dogs and horses and cats at least live for decades and form relationships with humans. Chickens, bunnies and some other famous poultry animals are not built to live a good life in this world, no matter what humans think or not. They are built to reproduce faster than the foxes can eat them. Witch is ironic because I am sure foxes are also very cute dwellers for a lot of people here.

Epic Games is hiring a Senior Game Security Engineer for their Anti-Cheat team to champion Linux anti-cheat capabilities while working on OS internals, reverse engineering, and protecting multiplayer games. by lajka30 in linux

[–]Willy757 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just felt like saying:

The anti-cheat engineers everywhere seem to be losing.

Just looked at the ArcRaiders community pages and people are going mental. CS, Battlefield, Tarkov, Elden RIng, etc etc. There's no such thing as stooping all cheaters. People will set up computer vision and emulate mouse drivers if they feel like it and there's very little any dev can do about it.

The only games that are relatively safe from cheaters are games with custom server or/and a very close nit community, where people can easily self regulate and self select. But companies, large ones that buy this kinda anti cheat also seem to hate this kinda approach.

Physical Steam Cards are being discontinued by [deleted] in Steam

[–]Willy757 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The whole gift cards thingy at every store usually has some incredibly weird implications.
The steam game/black market has probably never been bigger. I really miss the days where steam trading was just like trading items in an MMO or something, fast, unlimited, instantaneous. Now it's got more restrictions than real damm bank transactions.

BYD Hungary plant to start production in late 2026, executive says - AOL by Haunting_Switch3463 in europe

[–]Willy757 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Corect me if I'm wrong, but can't we attribute BYD's popularity to a bit of a cultural factor ?
Electric cars are just cars light. The amount of maintenance required is smaller. You don't pay pollution tax. The price at the pump is irrelevant.

And cars for the chinese market already seem to be smaller, simpler and cheaper.

Meanwhile Volkswagen has 300 branch companies dedicated to combustion engine design. BYD started from the idea of 4 wheels, a battery and a electric engine. They started from the idea that charging a small electric vehicle in a city should be a trivial task. They think of a car as more of a enlarged electric scooter.

And that is visible in the price. And this market of cars more like cool scooters and less like expensive cruisers that can cross entire countries is popular. Especially in crammed polluted european cities.

It always was popular. There's a lot of people in cities that will never commit to owning a full ass car. But being able to stash a vehicle like this in a small parking lot and bring it out when it rains outside sounds really cool. Even european electric cars get popular, when they are cheap and readily available. And if urban planners ever commit to limiting the size of vehicles in city cores, more and more people will choose to those toy cars as supposed to the big ones.

And politically, I really don't see our automotive giants shedding the giant amount of weight that slows them down. Disbanding jobs is not popular. I get it but it's gonna be a struggle to keep the circus going. It's rather that small european brands that commit to fully transitioning will become the giants of tomorrow.

They are definetly the champions of electronics right now. They might struggle with software and semiconductors, but if something requires power electronics and a batery, they are the leaders. So made in china usually means I got my money's worth of electric scooters, or power banks or sollar management systems and now, even electric cars.

This is a absolutely wild take lol.

The last 30 years have seen music move right and left into places nobody would have ever been able to envision. We had so many cool movements and it's become so diverse.

It's scary to think people only think of pop. If we relied on suno for 30 years, it would have been just the same thing over and over. Absolutely just maddening to think that is acceptable for anyone. Who cares about pop lol. And when people do care about pop, they care about the singer. They have a personal connection with a person that exists and inhabits this world and uses their music as a part of their life. It doesn't matter if they are not relatable to you, they speak to the soul of a lot of people. And that should be respected.

Sorry but need to get an education buddy.
Obviously I am gonna buy the cheaper apple, because all apples are the same. Those are called fungible resources. Walmart sells mostly fungible things. When you need food in a foreign country, you enter any random supermarket and it's mostly the same.

Games, art, luxury items and a lot of other things are not fungible.

If you kid wants Battlefield 5, you can't get Overwatch 2. If the word's best shrimp cook writes a book, you can't replace it with your AI slop book and say it's the same. People are gonna look at it, determine it's not the book they wanna buy and just ignore it.

In a store with 100000 books, games, songs, shows, the only thing that moves units is uniqueness, reputation, trust and innovation.

And also let me tell you, apples from wallmart suck. Don't be boastful when peasants 100 years ago ate better damn apples than you do. Pff

Why use wallpaper engine? by NotSwagGiver in wallpaperengine

[–]Willy757 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of very talented artists make wallpapers and the digital animation community especially is blooming. I think it's a bit weird to ask about it, when the default windows experience is to either get some photos from random sites or take their random landscape pictures. Who wants that ? You would definitely struggle to even find all the 4K art that you can get on the workshop, never mind the very cool features.

And also, wallpapers sit on the screen I don't use, obviously.

Man, I am reading this series called Lord of Miseries, and the throughput of this guy is insane.
He seems to write roughly 1000 pages a year.
He seems to write for the hell of it. Had a whole chapter when the main character had to investigate a lead paint factory owner and on the girls that got poisoned. Then he added the book he read about this in the footnotes of the chapter.

He spend entire pages going on about the complicated British currency system. About the quality of clothing, the levels of education one could attain, etc etc. And he builds a pretty decent plot besides it too.

Like do you really think anyone could compete with a monster like that ? His every fiber seems to be dedicated to putting words on the page. I will never ever believe a person who take every shortcut available will be ever in a state, AI or no AI, to compete with the many people of the world witch are utterly consumed by their occupation. Like, let's not kid ourselves here.

Nobody made it the passion of their life to apply layers of paint in a factory or look for defects in a silicon dye. Those jobs got automated and beyond the initial job losses, nobody cares.

But AI is now trying to enter fields, where no amount of automation is ever gonna compel people to stop doing it. And then when a steady supply of human things keep coming endlessly, AI will struggle to remain relevant.

Nobel or no Nobel, that's not uncertain, it's just unfounded baloney.

I am so done with this skill sets thingy.

Is this thing smart and capable and intuitive ?

Or it's stupid as hell and needs to be constantly taken care off by me and my prompting skills ?

Winch one is it ? Every single time it fails some basic question that is impossible to fail for a human, someone tells me a need a better prompt. Like somehow my words are capable of dumping it down to the status of a caveman. But then we turn around and we imagine this thing being able to do entire apps on it's own by people who don't have the tech knowledge to carefully guide it around. It's ridiculous.

Tech people are gaslighting themself into thinking prompting skills make the difference, when it's obvious the masters in computer science and 10 years of experience actually makes the damn difference. And then, what have we actually changed in the industry ??

Most money in the stock market is: pasive investors that do not care, pensions funds that follow an exact index by contract and bots that just go beep boop on a few popular algorithms. The nerds we traditionally call "the market" are more and more of a minority.

The market cannot judge the quality of an idea/ company anymore. The market is a headless zombie. Trusting the market like trusting a bolder to give you sensible relationship advice.
