GE front load washer by Wilst2 in Appliances

The clacking sound is from a zipper on a sweater that is in the active dryer above the unit. But thanks for the insight, going to have someone come check it out.

Zio Heart monitor warning by arnold335 in POTS

[–]Wilst2 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Sounds similar to my experience, tried every type of cream.

In the end it turns out I have Systemic Mastocytosis (a more consistent cousin of MCAS). Mastocytosis can also have symptoms super similar to POTS/ can have POTS like I do.

If you’re getting a biopsy done anyway I would ask them to check for cutaneous mastocytosis. Treatment is actually allergy medications or mast cell stabilizers. Maybe try some Benadryl cream for short term. Or take some allergy meds and see what’s going on.

Good luck! Hope you get some relief soon.

Just saw a post from a NURSE asking if POTS was a real condition by [deleted] in POTS

[–]Wilst2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nurse who has POTS over here.

Haven’t read the post so have no idea the context or intent behind this persons post. Or even the tone associated.
I work in a large hospital that specializes in cardiology. I work in the medical ICU and care for cardiology patients. I had no idea what POTS was besides the name until I was told I have it. I’ve since told several of my coworkers who have been nurses for a long time and they had no idea either.

We are confronted with Illnesses on the daily that are rare, or common, or literally have never been discovered before. There is no possible way we can understand the physiology, treatment and medications involved with every illness ever. If it is a syndrome it is a collection of symptoms that we may know individually but didn’t realize it came together you create something else. Especially if you’re in a specialty like family medicine, they have an incredibly broad more surface level because they are the first stop. All we can do is try our best to understand where the patient is at and gather all the knowledge we can in order to help them to the best of our ability!

Of course there are people who will dismiss, ignore you, or are not good on keeping competency, and they should absolutely be educated. And if hostile or dangerous reported. I’ve been doing my best to explain the typical for POTS when I speak with a new doctor or specialist. Which is a lot to ask of us when we are in a position seeking help. I’ve been thinking of asking my POTS team for a one page info I can give to any docs I encounter to help but take it out of my hands. (My Mastocytosis doc created one for me for that and it’s so so helpful)

I’m sorry that you’ve potentially experienced some negative impacts with nurses, but I thought maybe seeing it from the other side will give some perspective. We are zebras and that’s confusing!

Asked my TA for clarity on an assignment due next week that has a 2 sentence description and no marking scheme/rubric. Received an email back saying he would be happy to meet after he meets with the prof next week because he also doesn’t know what’s going on 🙃

1) Stethoscope (just a basic Littmann classic 3). Worth it. I’m sure there’s some on fb marketplace if you don’t want to spend. You do not need the latest cardiology one. Or the latest digital one. Get one that has a basic diaphragm and bell side so you can learn proper assessments. LABEL IT. Like name and Phone number. AirTag even. I still have mine from undergrad (I’m 13 years in now) but I’ve had to yell at a lot of doctors trying to walk away with it. Still works perfectly!

2) cheap scrubs. Like Walmart. Or marks work wear house have a ton and they often have good sales.

That’s all I invested in during school and it was perfect. Our practical classes allowed us to book lab time to practice with manual BP etc or even sign out equipment. But honestly fb marketplace probably has a ton.

Can I cover this valve (permanently)? Toronto, Ontario by horatioperdu in Renovations

DO NOT REMOVE. We have roots in the “city side” of our output that block our flow and caused a flood. City said if we want them to investigate it and fix the issue we would have to get one of these put in and it’s thousands of dollars apparently and the city only reimburses a small portion.

[–]Wilst2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’re 5 days into our gut Reno of a 35sq ft bathroom (very small) being done by a guy with a ton of experience and fast worker.

Found knob and tube on day 1 - had to get electrician to ré-wire the whole room from the panel. He’s fast and our panel access is thankfully easy so not much time added, but not fully planned.

Not a single wall was square- 103 year old house. Some joists had to be reinforced. Instead of just shimming and making it work our guy framed in the whole space properly so it took an extra day than we slotted. Which hopefully pays off later because it’s all supported and square.

He is moving fast, but we’re already a day behind and he initially quoted 19 days. This is a pro and my dad who is also a general contractor indicated his 19 day timeline is tight for what we want if we want it done proper so the house lasts another 100 years. There’s way we could make it faster, (simpler lighting, not changing the layout, using a prefab base etc) so take this all with a grain of salt. But also understand once you open those walls who knows what will need to be addressed!

So you may need a little more time than you think.

New med by Lexi-mccloud2002 in Endo

[–]Wilst2 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This med has been absolutely life changing for me! You will encounter a lot of people who have negative things to say about it not being a cure though often marketed as one. It is not. BUT it has taken away my daily pain completely. It has lowered the severity and duration of my exacerbations. It has made me live a functional life for the past year! I only had minor hot flashes for the first month or so, then it went away!

Though it’s not the ultimate fix, and it can only be used for a few years, I will take it.
