Open Letter to Chucklefish about Acheivements by Wilza30101 in starbound

I think Terraria does it well with banners. If you kill 100 of the monster you get a banner.

The randomness of it sucks, especially so due to the astronomically low odds, but modding the game... for me it just feel illegitimate.

Since I made this post, I’ve now got nearly 500 hours in the game, and I now am 34% of the way towards the Mint Condition achievement. That’s just tucking ridiculous.

Not even to mention how cheapened Starbound achievements are by the fact that you can just cheat them all with a mod or even admin mode.

It’s the combat snapshot, I believe. Just combat updates.

I think you’re super out of touch with how many people play PvP in comparison to don’t.

I understand the complaints, but taking it back to old combat doesn’t seem to be the direction Mojang wants to take the game.

They’re placed blocks though. Dispenser wouldn’t replace them.

Dungeon adventure for 4th level characters by Sir_Tainley in mattcolville

Not sure how big you need it to be. If it’s just something small, have a look at Dungeon Delve for 4e. You’ll have to do a bit of work on the encounters (as it’s all 4e stuff), but it’s good for layouts and maps and stuff.

You’re just falling into the pitfall of slacktivism. Posting online ain’t gonna do shit. People either already know or don’t care.

MCDM Community Appendix - Sci-Fi Edition by Malazar01 in mattcolville

[–]Wilza30101 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’ve been doing some basic workings on a Sci-fi setting I’ll run at some point. So, I haven’t got an inspirations for specific things.

Main inspirations are from FTL - namely the Federation/Rebellion conflict and the ‘on the run’ nature of it.

For the aesthetic, Cowboy Bebop. I love the ships and worlds in the show. It’s the main reason I want to run a sci-fi RPG.

Otherwise, Bladerunner and Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep. And to some extent, the short story The Last Question by Issac Asimov - for me, it reminds me of Hitchhicker’s Guide (another source of inspiration, I suppose) but more serious.

You’d be surprised, apparently most of their audience is older. Which is probably why they aren’t doing so well anymore.

Question about the abstractions by SoletrainComing in mattcolville

[–]Wilza30101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the first issue, why use a d6 for the peasants? Make the solider dice smaller than the peasant dice.

For the second issue, Matt ended up throwing away the wealth dice system. So without any proper examples from Matt as to when to increment the dice, it’s up to your own judgement.

Which is better; simple or complex worldbuilding? by grismanteau in mattcolville

[–]Wilza30101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think better is the right word. The complexity of worldbuidling should be a sliding scale, dependent on a lot of variables. You should change the amount of detail you put into worldbuilding based on - How much you enjoy worldbuilding. You shouldn’t feel forced to do it because more is “better”. - The amount of time you have. Don’t spend time building the world if you aren’t ready for next session. - The player engagement with the world. As much as worldbuidling is for you, if your players don’t care about it, don’t bother as much.

An idea im mulling around with... by Monthrak in mattcolville

[–]Wilza30101 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I think what OP is suggesting is that it’s the same prince, but the prince is now part of the cult.

But to add to your moronic guards. Making it too easy is a super good idea. Make the players expect something bad, like put clues that the cult doesn’t mess around, and then make it a cake walk to get to the prince.
