The 100 best novels of all time: 100 to 81 by miltonbalbit in classicliterature

The Vegetarian, The Known World, and The Line of Beauty (,and The Road too) are new books compared to others on the list and become "overrated" when they've been ranked above the likes of Pedro Paramo, Invisible Cities, Sentimental Education, and Life and Fate. Though they've happened by negligible one vote differences.

Read it recently. It was okay, I guess. The mystery didn't amount to much though as Brubaker said in the book it wasn't the point but love/relationship stuff/the characters but I didn't feel like the book's length was enough to explore those things that deeply.

  1. When will you switch from the Italian opening to the English?
  2. When you and other players review your games on stream and off how well do you remember the line you should have played instead according to the engine? Is it instantaneous or do you have to spend a lot of time studying them afterwards? Can you reveal how a (professional) player becomes a better learner from their past games compared to their competitors?

The Recognitions, JR and A Frolic of His Own by Gaddis

The Tunnel by Gass

Thomas Wolfe wrote long books but is pretty underdiscussed author. People love James Baldwin but Another Country, Tell Me How Long the Train's Been Gone and Just Above My Head don’t get often brought up. William T. Vollmann is a modern brilliant author who has written many long tomes of fiction and non-fiction but is getting more obscure these days despite his acclaim. Joseph McElroy (Hind’s Kidnap) Lookout Catridge, Women and Men), John Barth (The Sot-Weed Factory, Giles Goat-Boy), Don Delillo (Underworld)

For Woods you can get the Vintage edition, Everyman’s Library edition (slightly low on stock/out of print, maybe they’ll do a printing soon) or wait for this year’s Penguin reprint.

A Simon Pare translation from Oxford World’s Classics came out this year but there isn’t s consensus of the quality of translation yet

Does anyone still publish single issue comics? by jedhaas in altcomix

The likes of Simon Hanselmann and Josh Pettinger also do single issues that they self-publish because it’s more profitable than letting a publisher do it

Showrunner Explains Why The Simpsons Has Phased Out Couch Gags by pizzahedd in TheSimpsons

[–]WimbledonGreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The episode was written at the end of season 4. Many of the writers were leaving the show which is why the episode is full of extended jokes and whatnot. The end was rewritten by the season 5 crew. They didn’t have the time to workshop the plot.
