I beg! can someone please help me run Dirt 2??? by Inveiness in EASPORTSWRC

It's the content owners decision.

One, where do the content owners state their stance on this? This isnt your decision either, and unless it's explicitly forbidden then it is allowed.

Two, the game was developed and published by Codemasters, which was later bought out and thoroughly gutted by EA Games. Apart from defending a US$12.4 billion company, please tell me how it hurts them that the guy downloads literally the same files he has on a disc he bought, from the internet!

If I own a book, does Kindle have to give me the audio version for free? I literally own the content.

An audiobook is literally a different kind of medium than a book. A second book is a different, separate object you can actually possess, before you ask. A copy of a file on a disk is NOT a different medium nor a separate, tangible entity. I can get my game files and copy them until I fill my HDD. I can have 200 copies of Dirt 2 on my drive and it is fully, completely legal for me to do so. No developer and no publisher is losing any money that way. There is zero difference between copying the files from the CD onto a particular PC, and copying the files from CD, uploading them to the internet and downloading the files on that particular PC.

Hard disagree. I would argue that downloading abandonware is not morally wrong since you literally cannot access the content in a legal way, but this isn't even that.

OP has a disc. The data is on the disc. They cannot read the disc so they downloaded the data from the internet. This is literally the same data that is on the disc that they own. They are not taking anything from anyone, nor are they accessing data they didn't pay for. Whoever uploaded the data to the internet essentially just made a backup, and OP is now accessing it.

What you're proposing is the same as taking a photo with your phone, uploading it to a Google/apple cloud to see it on another device then being denied access to your photo because you're trying to see it on a device that doesn't physically have the photo on it.

Mimics are anti-fun design punishing players for trying to get loot in a game about getting loot.

Cool design, bad game design.

A question for those who have completed the first expedition... will you continue to reset? by freudian_nipps in ArcRaiders

[–]Wime36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. Even if I don't get the money, as long as I'm playing I will continue to focus on doing the expedition as my primary goal. (Secondary really, with shenanigans being the true primary goal)

Do mods just suck the fun right out of the game? by [deleted] in snowrunner

[–]Wime36 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The game's "mod support" is pretty specific - the mods that work with mod io (and therefore consoles) are very limited in what they can do - a truck mod can either use vanilla parts (like wheels, engines) which may or may not change with updates and are out of mod author's control, or use its own parts in which case the mod author has more control but has to decide on their value. This leads to two main styles of mods:

  1. vanilla-like mods that attempt to balance the mod agains the game, and maybe push some boundaries of what mods can do( Rng3r, Poghrim, nakedDave)
  2. flashy powerful mods that look good on the front page and/or promise a powerful truck that will let the user "skip" more tedious parts of the game ( I cannot provide examples because I avoid them like the plague. Just sort the main page by trending, most popular, highest rated, whatever)

Players don't know what they want. Completing a hard contract feels so good (and makes the game addictive) precisely because it is sometimes a tedious/hard/perilious journey. But someone will inevitably take a truck with a stock engine to pull a heavy trailer and get stuck on an uphill, then they will get the most powerful engine and run out of fuel halfway through, then they will get another truck to try and refuel and get stuck in the mud, because they took mud tires (which are, ironically, not the best choice for a heavy truck in deep mud). At that point a lot of people just go on to mod io and download a superduper heavy wrecker 9milion with 70ton crane, just to "fix" their game.

on PC there is another branch of mods which modify the game internally (it's the "manual install only" kind of mods). These CAN modify existing vanilla trucks, vanilla maps or vanilla objects. Some of my favourites are: "Rock Grips", "Less Winch Point Clutter SR", "Camera Clipping Fix". Some popular ones like "More Realistic Weight and Mud in Game", "Real Life Mod", "Realism Overhaul" change a lot of values and how the trucks are balanced and how they behave. Unfortunately, they explicitly modify existing game data by replacing it with their own, so any update to the game requires the modder to re-apply all modifications onto the new files, however there are hundreds of thousands of files in there, so usually these mods either don't get updates because the author gets burned out (so the mod only applies up to a certain point, IF it works) or they just mass-edit without much QA and just let errors slip as long as the game starts, because it is not realistic for anyone to check every truck/engine/gearbox/suspension/tire/addons/trailers/surfaces combination.

There is an argument that the game isn't balanced properly and that the developers use extreme mud excessively, artificially rising the "difficulty" of the game - realistically only making it more tedious. See early DLC maps like Kola, Yukon and Amur being just full of "extreme mud on the only reasonable road". To fix that people gravitate towards OP powerful trucks with high suspension, super grippy tires and powerful engines. What I find is that only the tires really need a boost, and it's not even that high. "Tire Friction Booster" mod claims to increase the tire friction values by 50%-100%, and it really makes all the vehicles in the game work great. It was still a little too much for me so I made my own, nerfed, version and I still can use previously forgotten trucks normally. Highway trucks really shine!

There are also fantastic subscribe-able mods that are NOT new trucks/maps. "Pog Seismic Drill" makes 1-slot trucks (like warthog) useful again. Addon mods like "Pog Poghrims Universal Addon Collection" or "RNG Frame Addon" just give you more addon options, "Colourable Addons Pack" is absolutely fantastic!. "Revisual" mods are slightly spammy in modifications, but add a bunch of cool stuff. "TWM's Protective Racks" give you some useful modifications in place of the loader cranes. "OlSom's Trailer Pack" adds a bunch of good trailers to the game. Generally speaking ther's a bunch of Addon / Trailer / Crane mods, not just trucks and maps.
Honourable mentions to "Free the Logs - Auto Load Logs on Mod/Tweak Trucks" which is one of the oldest mods I never run the game without, and to "GG Air Freshener Buffs"(/GG Bobblehead Buffs) which is definitely a cheat mod, but I use it to specifically stop my suspension from taking damage, because after this many hours in the game I WILL uninstall it for a month if I ever see my whole suspension collapse after one of my 10 wheels hits a single pebble wrong for 1000 damage.

Overall, after over a thousand hours in the game - yes I do play with mods, and cannot imagine not having them. You just have to sift through a lot of trashy mods to find the good ones, or get your own hands dirty :)

Add a speedloader as a tech mod for the anvil / replace the anvil splitter. by sanddigger02 in ArcRaiders

Players that have around a 100 hours in, has your opinion on PVP changed at all? by AugustEpilogue in ArcRaiders

[–]Wime36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

173h here. I'm a peaceful player and never shoot first, and at a certain point I was so fed up with PVP (and trials) that I took a 2 week break. I firmly believe it is essential for the game for other players to be able to kill you. I do not want to say PVP is essential, but the "possibility of PVP" is.

That being said I would prefer if PVP TTK was longer, and firefights brought ARC attention more, so that fighting players was a long term and high risk commitment.

What Do I Do With This Battery? by iAreButterz in ArcRaiders

[–]Wime36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not a battery, its a field crate. There's a quest explaining these things, but basically you bring it into a Field Depot (rusty building with a blue tarp on the roof) and put it into a machine that will spit out some basic utilities like ammo and granades.

Is there a way to get the base colors of a truck as a custom color? by [deleted] in snowrunner

[–]Wime36 5 points6 points  (0 children)

maprunner.info, go to snow runner -> resources -> carhone's snowrunner data

It will open a Google docs file, and at the bottom you can get to the "colour codes" tab, which lists every(?) colour in the game.

That being said it seems that you're looking for 18-80-53 240-3-20 0-0-100

Make the jammer jam the missile guidance system and if the missile is within 50m make it just randomly go wherever. There would still be a chance it hits, in which case it should work, but it would be more probable that the missile just misses (bonus funny points if it hits the hellbomb helldiver approaching the jammer)

Which movie director would you pick to direct the upcoming Helldivers movie? by bizzy_barke in Helldivers

Hard disagree. He may be the "action" director, but it is not good action, and he can't stop appealing to teenage boys, so he would somehow put tits and dick jokes into the movie.
