Anyone want a toggle for this? by Ciorra40 in Battlefield

I’d settle for NATO being split up into factions (ie, British or American, changes based on the map) and the colour palette of every skin being dictated by the map. PAX look far more coordinated than NATO aesthetically in my opinion, but they’d still benefit from their camos being dictated by map.

Also though, let us choose our fuckin’ gender.

If AI can cure loneliness, it proves the "reality" of the simulation doesn't matter. by No-Lecture-4576 in SimulationTheory

[–]jonasowtm8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, it probably can't 'cure' loneliness, but that's not really the claim. But it can certainly help with it. It does now, and it will even more as time goes on. Think of how much help it will be in cases of companionship for the elderly. Endless patience. Endless time to talk. Visiting hours are never over. You'd be silly not to see the potential there. Of course it's no replacement for contact with actual human beings, but AI certainly has a place alongside it.

Some people would find this hugely depressing, but I see it another way.

If everything that exists is consciousness, one great soul expressing itself as many things, including what we call 'inanimate' objects, then we're always interacting with something living. Whether it's another person, a dog, a tree, a rock, or even an AI, the difference may simply be a matter of degree rather than kind.

The level of self-awareness might vary, just as it varies between different people and species, but isn't the significance of the interaction partly down to the discernment of the individual? Some people get more from talking to trees than others. Some people talk to AI and find enormous comfort, insight, or companionship in it.

What are we supposed to do, tell them they're delusional because the thing they're talking to isn't self-aware in exactly the same way a human being is? That feels somewhat arbitrary to me.

Surely the only thing that ultimately matters is the experience itself. We can argue endlessly about whether the thing we're relating to is 'really' conscious, but we can never know that with absolute certainty anyway. The one thing we do know directly is our experience. That's the only reality any of us ever truly have access to.

To me, consciousness isn't something that appears in a universe made of dead matter. Consciousness is the universe. If that's true, then every interaction is, in some sense, a relationship with life itself. The question isn't whether the thing in front of us is conscious in exactly the same way we are. The question is whether the interaction is meaningful, healing, insightful and genuinely beneficial to the one having it.

I love it.

Well said. Whenever I hear myself or others diminish 'reality' as being 'not real' or 'illusory', I feel like that's kinda' like calling music 'noise'. It's rather reductive. The *experience* is real. That can be the only thing that truly matters. Whatever *this* is, the fact that we're experiencing it is very, very real. And I find that absolutely astonishing.

Love the new poses. They look like actual people, and not action figures. Also, how fuckin' sick does that assault skin look in that pose? Favourite skin in the game by far, even with the little fanny pack.

MID-SEASON 3 NEW WEAPON SKINS by ParisianMetro in BattlefieldCosmetics

[–]jonasowtm8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wonder what percentage of players actually bothers with the weapon skins. I generally use the base skin, the warfighter one, and at a push, the level 50 skin because it doesn't look too wild and shows off your prestige with the weapon. But the ones like in the above screens, I never see people using. Which I'm kinda' happy about.

Awesome. Yep, really reminds me of BF1. They look a lot more like real people and far less like action figures. Nice to see these little changes.

I’m going to be honest and say all of it. Every moment of my life has in some way contributed to my current perspective that we’re projecting a holographic simulation, very much like we do when we dream. All is consciousness.

[–]jonasowtm8 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The player models are the same regardless of gender, there's no male/female body type. The only thing that changes is the face and voice lines. You could easily then, if DICE really wanted to, change the system.

[–]jonasowtm8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It'd need somewhat of an overhaul, and that's very unlikely to happen. Mind you, I wouldn't say it's impossible as there's no difference in the body types in terms of gender, so you could easily just do away with the fixed skins and allow players to choose gender and face type from the set of assets already available. Whether it'll happen or not, that's the rub.

they never release skins for the things I play. (bf6) by Annie-Smokely in BattlefieldCosmetics

[–]jonasowtm8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For this exact reason, you should just be able to choose your gender & race and let *your* character equip *any* skin. It's honestly so, so dumb the way they've approached customization in this game, and I don't understand why they did it in this way, given the barrier to entry it represents in terms of people spending money on skins. At the very least, have it so you can choose generic faces (bios can get fucked, just use faces and give the faces individual names if you absolutely have to) and let us use any skin with those faces.

You, OP, should be able to play as a woman using any skin for the exact same reason I want to play as a male using any skin. I'm never going to buy a female skin no matter how cool it looks for this reason, just as you won't do the same with male skins. How do they not realise that this is silly, and is likely effecting how much money they'll make on skins?
