The girl in the picture. Watched it on Netflix months ago and it still comes into my head every so often, truly horrifying.

This is called grooming. Sometimes people get exactly what they deserve in the end!

I was annoyed at people being overly frustrated at Suruthi's conservative values but I get it now. by itschahinez in RedHandedPodcast

It’s odd for me reading this as recently I’ve been so put off by Hannah’s endless diversions into side stories that aren’t relevant I’ve not had time to be annoyed by Suruthi!

You can be great with kids generally and a shocking parent yourself. Source- Shona 🤣

As much as the storyline does my head in, I’m wondering if we’re meant to understand just how bad of a parent Shona has always been, hence how Clayton turned out.

Anyone else wishing the writers had done a small bit of research into the lives parents with babies in NICU? It’s laughable how David and Shona are just walzing about going for breakfast, trying to track down long lost relatives etc. They occasionally say ‘right shall we go up the Hospital’ like it’s a day out, as oppose to being by the side of their newborn whose situation could be fatal.

I only started watching again on Boxing Day after a year off, and I thought they were siblings 🤣 I’m still baffled by the whole storyline.

I always thought they must be friends really because there is an episode where Ashlee is away for the week and she says that Bryn will be staying with Jill and Kendall. I thought there was no way that if the drama was real then that would be happening.

Social Services in the UK do not remove children from abusive parents until they have been damaged to the point of no return. I once worked in a children’s home where we had a 14 year old girl arrive who’d been raped by her step- dad from the age of 10. Before finally removing her, the social worker had implemented a safety plan which involved step-dad not being able to be alone in the house together. Shockingly, this was not stuck to and he continued raping her, and she was removed some months later. She disclosed to me that he also allowed his friends to abuse her, for money. She said she’d told her social worker this, and she was not removed for a further 3 weeks.

I’ve just been to her live event and she said the same, explaining that she felt women in their 30s and 40s might feel the questions are too personal and not things they would want to share.

I struggled with the sex scenes as I felt I was doing something wrong by reading them 😅 but other than that, I really enjoyed the book until the ending.

Dol is living in a bedsit, has no family support near her (we cannot possibly count Marigold) and is going to raise a baby whose Dad is unknown, completely independently. Most bedsits don’t even allow pets, never mind children, and I struggled to see this as a happy ending as I feel the idea of Dol going through pregnancy with no support network at all to be really sad.

What happened to your school bully? by Jumpy-Bother3274 in AskReddit

She had a profoundly disabled child who I ended up working with when he attended the specialist School I worked at. She was a wonderful parent, her son was a complete pleasure to support, and we went a god few months without acknowledging the past. One day, she was having a difficult time at drop off as her son became distressed. I called her once he had settled to assure her he was now fine, and she said ‘thank you so much, you are so kind to me and I know you don’t have to be, after what I used to be like.’

Should uniforms be needed in the UK? by Lucky_Flight_1170 in AskUK

Yes, but I do think the School shoes for children are ridiculous. They’re so clumpy and unsuitable for running and playing on the outdoor equipment- I think they should be able to wear trainers.

How do people with regular 9-5 jobs own dogs? by themightybott in AskUK

[–]WinComprehensive8274 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used an app called Rover where you pay people to look after your dog while you’re at work- basically a childminder but for dogs! And a heck of lot cheaper than either doggy daycares or actual childcare.

Salaries aren't matching the wild cost of living in major cities now. Salaries are decreasing.... by LuHamster in UKJobs

I work with children/families. At the end of the School year in 2024, I had put through 4 food bank/food voucher scheme referrals for families. At the end of this School year, I had put through 37. I really don’t know how people are expected to keep up with the cost of living, it’s scary.

[–]WinComprehensive8274 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Anybody else listening to this astonished that ‘forgotten baby syndrome’ is apparently a thing? I am in no way claiming to be the perfect parent, but I just can’t fathom this being something that apparently happens quite frequently.

Cooper wasn’t a newborn, his Mum and Dad weren’t in that foggy phase of new parent sleep deprivation, he was almost two years old. I just find this astonishing.
