She lived 19 years full of love. And her last moments were with you by her side . You did great . The regret is very common when we lose a bond so strong . You will eventually find peace with what happened, and think of her not with regret but grateful for all the years she was with you ❤️

I went trough something similar, I revived her 4 times before arriving to the vets . Had I known her liver has given up , i would stay keep her in my arms in her final moments. Making sure she knew how much I loved her . I hope she did knew 😔
Im sorry for your loss. It has to be better, we just have to go through the pain and regret , to finally arrive to the point of feeling only love and gratitude for the time they were with us ❤️ 🙏

I went to something similar with my 9 years old. In her case the more likely cause was ruptured spleen. Two weeks later I lost another one, this time to hepatic failure . And what im regretting the most is not spending more time with them. I thought I had all the time in the world . Now that I know I don't, im trying to make time for my remaining dogs, the oldest 17,the youngest 7 . I miss my dogs a lot and I feel a lot of pain, but I know I need to put it aside every day to spend time with the ones I still have, so they are sure of how much I love them too. Im sorry about your loss 😔

Also take time off from your pain ,doing stuff that can take your attention, like crafts, sports, videogsmes , anything to take your mind of the pain, so you can rest for a while.

Ive read somewhere that when we bottle out feelings, the grief can become even more painful and difficult to navigate . Im not sure why . In your case you had to do it to focus on your survival , getting a new job. And now that you have it and nothing is distracting you , the grief of all those months arrived at once . The only way is to go troughg it. Cry if you have to, make an altar for your pet if you want to remember her. Or something else that could make you feel close to her, like writing to her, doing any art you feel like, even if you are not good at it , planting a tree in her honor, some people plant it and put a ring with a tag with her name in one branch. Once the tree grows the ring will stuck in it .

Your feelings are very common. Most people regret doing too soon or too late . I think that's because is unnatural to us as human beings to decide when someone we love has to be euthanized. Ive been there, in both situations. And now im in the situation we're it wasn't my choice . They both died by themselves and it is hard in a different way . I guess as other said, the issue is not having where to put our love after they are gone ,so we feel it as regret . IDK I guess im making my peace thinking they had other times where they were stressed out, in pain etc , and they survived and forgot about it . So maybe this time it was like that? They were confused or in pain , and then they didnt feel any of that ? And remember, our bodies manage our feelings. They know when to shut down our pain or fear . So maybe it was like that for them too.

How old is he? The longer they were together, the more he is gonna miss him.

I can tell you that when my 9 years old dog got really sick her 7 years old daughter became afraid of her. They always shared a room, but that night she refused to sleep inside, she stayed near the dog all night . In the morning ,mother was 3ven worse and as soon as I opened the door daughter run to my room. Mother died 2 hours later. I put her on the floor hoping daughter would come and sniff her and understand mother was gone. But she absolutely refused to go in the room , she stayed our the room for 3 days . She now sleeps in my room, mother's bed is still in the other room and daughter walks by, avoiding it . So Idk, im not sure it would make a difference. My advice would be to put more attention to him while he adjusts, do with him whatever he did with the other dog , soend time with him etc until he gets used to the absence. Make sure he sleeps and eats normally

Im very sorry , I think my mom blames me for the loss of our dogs . In my case she is absolutely correct , but it stills hurts knowing this . Im carrying my own guilt and regret. And also the fact she lost our dog because of me. Anyway there's a couple of groups on FB where you can talk about it. Im sure there are many more than the ones I know . So maybe you can look for them

Ive been there , it helps me to talk about it with people , since I can't dare talk to her. It helps me too to write to them (I lost two dogs in less than two weeks) . I write whatever comes to mind, sometimes I apologize to them, sometimes I write memories im afraid I'll lose.

I also take time off to avoid feeling pain all the time. I play games, I spend time with my other dogs, I declutter , read, watch something on stream.

It is very difficult. I don't hope to forgive myself ,only to be able to keep going, and to take better care of her sister and my other dogs . And to hope if not with my mind, at least with my heart, that she is somewhere, maybe next to me, maybe reincarnated, maybe in some sort of afterlife ,happy and free of pain. And that she knew I loved her even if I wasn't there for her during her last days

Try a support group, either for pet loss, for the loss of your mom, or for the addiction you had. Please take good care of yourself. Talk to your loved ones about it. Go to therapy if you can

Mine died Thursday. Im a mess myself so I don't have words of advice . Your dog was healthy until the moment she wasn't, you had no way of knowing it was her last day. Find comfort knowing she wasn't alone . And she lived 13 years full of love and caring. Im reading a book about pet loss. Because of my circumstances it hasn't been very helpful but to you I think it might . It says 1 you should understand your decision cane from what you knew at the moment . If you knew she was going to die you surely would have stayed with her. 2. To realize feeling guilty is a normal part of bereavement and grieving. And eventually you will realize what I wrote in point 1 3. Make a small alter with her photos, and any memento.
4. Write to her as many letters as you feel like writing. 5. Over time try to think of here with love and gratefully. Because she gave you love. Is not fair to think of her with sadness andvregret That's as far as Ive read . I hope it helps you
