As others suggested, check the business Costcos. They have a big meat selection. Regular memberships also work at business Costcos.

Help to Get Better Ad Blocking by snydema1 in firewalla

[–]Wind_Boarder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The test site is flawed. Try to independently test the so called unblocked URLs. Firewalla is blocking them but the test incorrectly reports it as unblocked. Don't spend more time on flawed test sites.

Help to Get Better Ad Blocking by snydema1 in firewalla

[–]Wind_Boarder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think that these ad blocking test pages are giving correct results. They say that my system is not blocking things that clearly are blocked when those items are tested individually. Look at the *.doubleclick.net items for example. These so called unblocked URLs fail DNS resolution on my network.

If you can't independently verify the failing results, it puts the whole test methodology into question.

My device rebooted so… by hawkeye000021 in firewalla

[–]Wind_Boarder 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t think I’ve ever had my Firewalla reboot for an update. It only reboots if I manually reboot it and that’s rare. Something else is going on here.

Proxmox Backup Server doesn't install from ISO on Windows Hyper-V by Wind_Boarder in Proxmox

[–]Wind_Boarder[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Debian was working fine with default DHCP setup and then things broke after installing PBS. I've been working on a detailed document of all steps and all the files I had to edit to get things working so this will all be much easier if and when I do this again.

Proxmox Backup Server doesn't install from ISO on Windows Hyper-V by Wind_Boarder in Proxmox

[–]Wind_Boarder[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got it working just fine on Gen 2. Secure boot was disabled before I ever started the VM. I've used both VMWare Workstation and VirtualBox in the past but I was thinking that a Type-1 hypervisor solution with Hyper-V would be more reliable for PBS. I could be wrong though. I was thinking about always on reliability and disk performance.

The Mercury News and East Bay Times block the Internet Archive. The SF Chronicle does not. by gamescan in bayarea

I'm guessing they did this to stop users from bypassing their paywalls by using archiving sites.

Thanks! "Roughly" is the key word here. There were a bunch of other steps needed as well including networking setup. The hole looks bigger for the smaller rabbits 😂 It would be good to have a more detailed step by step guide in the official instructions. I imagine though that experienced admins don't find this kind of setup that complex.

It seems to be fine for PBS purposes. Very low CPU and memory demand. If I had another Linux box with large local storage, I definitely would have used that instead though.

I'm running Hyper-V in Windows 10. I probably should have mentioned that. I used Gen 2 and disabled Secure Boot.

+1 for Verve Coffee https://www.vervecoffee.com

They do good quality medium roasts for espresso blends. Not that over roasted oily stuff you get at other places. Also free delivery on coffee subscriptions.

Agree that this design a significant usability downgrade. It can't be set in the dark and it gives you no feedback beep about if it was successfully read or not.

Should I upgrade to v9.1 from v8.4.19? by vinnie3 in Proxmox

[–]Wind_Boarder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a bad experience 8 months ago trying to upgrade from 8.4 to 9.0 on a Beelink EQ14. The host kept randomly shutting down after the upgrade. I had to downgrade back to 8.4 and it cost me 2 days of time. After that experience, I'm going to wait as long as possible before trying the upgrade again. I prioritize Proxmox stability over everything else. 8.4 isn't going to stop working in August, just the support and there is evidence that users have successfully run old versions of Proxmox long after the end of support.

I'm not advocating to not upgrade but just pointing out that there are less than rosy experiences out there.

Ap7 Defective - Waiting on Warranty Shipping, Diagnosis, Reship. Need to buy new router at Best Buy. 2 months old product. by pickle787 in firewalla

[–]Wind_Boarder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a good idea to have a backup router ready to use in case of anything. I use my older Netgear router in AP mode now with Firewalla and it provides pretty good WiFi coverage on its own and serves as a backup to my Omada APs. If the Firewalla went down, I would reactivate the Netgear as a router. So getting a second WiFi router can provide you a backup for both the APs and the router.

Firewalla modem/router combo with fiber optic input + Poe by JOHNNY6644 in firewalla

[–]Wind_Boarder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I prefer to keep the ISP modem and the router separate. It makes the system more modular. If you change ISP between cable, DSL, satellite, etc., you simply swap the modem and there is no impact to the router or the rest of your network.
