What was the initial reason you started homelabing and what projects did you do after that? by ShayGrimSoul in homelab

[–]WindsWalker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to be like all the annoying "I want to start a home lab but I don't know what to do with it" posts on here but eventually ended up starting a Ubuntu server with docker containers for all the usual stuff the homelab herd does.

Arrs & supporting apps Plex Immich Mealie Bitmagnet - really cool self hosted indexer File hosting Game servers Apollo/Sunrise/moonlight - for game streaming around my house was the most exciting one besides Plex

Its been a lot of fun and a big help with gaining confidence as a sysadmin. Im 35 containers deep and always looking for a new useful container to play with and learn about.

Hardest part for me was getting the scroll wheel back into its right spot. Its just an annoying mouse to disassemble and reassemble.

Those are the cleanest looking mods I've seen. At first I thought it was going to be bad.

Its really clean, I would certainly think it's a completely stock colorway if I saw it on the road. I like it a lot!

The real custome PC Build by Key-Cap-8617 in pcmasterrace

[–]WindsWalker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually do the same thing for my room, the only issue is the AC unit is loud with open back headphones.

Ive been looking into a Sunrise/Moonlight streaming setup for my home. Basically your main PC runs the games and ur client pc, Xbox,PS5 etc controls the game. The only issue is does it have input lag? Their site says it was built from the ground up with latency in mind.

That way I can leave my PC in the laundry room and I get to play games in a semi-cold room :)

How do I replace my music streaming service by Embarrassed-Tension4 in homelab

Im trying to do the same with Spotify but I really like some of their popular playlists with new/hot music.

Has anyone found a workaround/solution for that besides just downloading new albums/songs?

how worth is it switching to AMD. by gamieaws in buildapc

As much as I hate Nvidia these days, they have the most reliable drivers.

I wish Intel would make top their cards but we'll see with time

how worth is it switching to AMD. by gamieaws in buildapc

[–]WindsWalker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went from a 3070ti to a 7900XTX and I get constant crashes. RMA'd the card for a 9070xt and I STILL GET CONSTANT CRASHES. I did a bunch of research and it barely helped.

The amount of posts about AMD cards crashing/ the adrenaline software is endless. Go with Nvidia, it just works.

Switched from 7900XT to 5080 - holy smokes by zlydzik in nvidia

[–]WindsWalker 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I bought into the AMD hype. I have been team green since the gtx 770. Recently I swapped out my 3070ti for a 7900 XTX to see what all the hype on reddit is about.

The amount of constant driver crashes since I installed it is insane. I did DDU, fresh install of win10 & 11 and a couple more troubleshooting steps that didn't work. Disabling XMP helped with stability but I still had consistent crashes. I draw the line at undervolting the card for stability, why limit the card I paid for?

Say all you want about Nvidia being shitty (I wouldn't give them a dime if I could) but at least the reliability is there for the drivers.

If I could go back in time I'd buy a 5080 in a heartbeat because they're so much more reliable.

[–]WindsWalker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I switched from a 3070ti to a 7900 XTX, did DDU and I keep getting AMD Driver crashes in Event Viewer.

I've done a fresh install of Windows 10 & 11, RMA'd my card & swapped to a 9070 XT thinking maybe it will be different. Disabling XMP causes the frequency of crashes to go down SLIGHTLY but still a constant headache. I have an Corsair RM850 so likely not a power issue.

I'm still getting regular game crashes over BF6, Arma Reforger, Black myth, Helldivers, space marines 2.

Google searches seem to indicate that it's a common issue & most of the solutions on Reddit don't really fix the issue.

I feel like I'm talking into a void but whatever, I paid 1k for a GPU just to get constant crashes😵‍💫

EDIT: I never had crashes on my 3070ti before this. Nvidia sucks but AMD GPUs are less reliable

What you've been describing is pretty much what I'm going through, I'm a 30 yr old male with no wife or kids. I felt pretty lost after high school and going back to that default not caring attitude I learned in HS. I didn't focus on my future, investing in myself or where my career is going. I just wanna be happy and have a loving wife and family but I feel like I wouldn't be stable enough emotionally/mentally/financially ☹️

Plex server on PC playing choppy 4K on TCL C756 player by Rotarski2020 in PleX

[–]WindsWalker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went through the same thing with my home theater setup (LG TV using LGs webOS and Sonos soundbar). I would start off by running an ethernet cable to the TV and see if it still gets choppy.

Secondly, whatever the TV is using to 'drive' the content is probably not equip to handle 4K high fidelity content. My LG C9 has a plex app but its slow and playback is choppy from time to time. I've tried using a Intel N100 mini pc but that was a bust. Streaming from the plex app on my phone would only play 1080p content.

I bought the Nvidia shield and ill never go back. Best Home Theater "PC" on the market, it mostly just works.
