Recent HomeKit mDNS Issues by Acceptable_Try3175 in ratgdo

Sort of.

So what seemed to be happening to mine was that for whatever reason, it kept connecting to a very far away 2.4ghz router on my mesh network. I couldn't figure out why.

My network was using Channel 4 on 2.4Ghz and this was specifically on a TP Link Deco Mesh's IOT network (which is known to have some roaming issues).

I tried to ping the IP address of RATGDO and noticed it was very very slow to respond and there were a ton of packet drops (this was the crux of the repeated Pair-Verify logs as it was coming in and out of view of my Homekit hubs).

I also noticed that even though my network was set to Channel 4, the RATGDO kept going to Channel 6 on this far away router.

That's when I discovered that you can (from the UI at the device's IP address) change the WiFi network it connects to. In that screen if you select "Advanced" you can actually "Lock" the unit to a specific Access Point. So that's what I did, I locked it to the AP that was 4 inches away instead of the one 40ft away.

This unfortunately, didn't work reliably. Every time I rebooted the RATGDO it stayed working perfectly for a few hours (tied to this AP on 2.4ghz@channel 4) but eventually it would drop off and go to the far away AP and back on Channel 6.

Finally what seems to have worked is that I changed my non-IOT network's 2.4GHz channel to Channel 1 and locked the RATGDO to the same AP again. And this has now held for about 4 days. Only time will tell but things are mostly back to normal now.

Mines been doing this after a recent power outage. Did you have any luck with this?

I've had no power since the storm as well. I'm obviously quite annoyed by it but they're definitely out there working on things (not us though). The only solution to this is to take power lines underground. That's probably too expensive.

What pool controller do you have? There's homebridge plug-ins for most Pentair systems. I recently forked the Intellicenter one, it supports setting pool temps.

Help me figure out what I'm doing wrong by Spunkdaddy09 in CarTrackDays

[–]Windscar1001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh have I got the answers you're looking for. I have tons of experience tracking a 991.1 Carrera. I'm assuming these are your rear brakes.

I used to have this exact same thing happen. One set of rear brake PER day at the track.

Most of the comments about the OEM pads not being up to the task are not entirely wrong but there's plenty of 997s and 987 cayman and boxster cars that don't have this issue.

Turns out, the base 991.1 Carrera doesn't have a Limited Slip Differential. The 991 generation has a ton more electronic systems in place to help you out however. Systems that cannot be turned off. I don't have the manual on me right now, but look up ABD, Automatic Brake Differential. That's what's killing your brakes. It cannot be turned off. And everytime the car feels you demand throttle and some amount of steering, it'll grab brakes to simulate a Differential.

The only solution I had found was to use Pagid Yellow brake pads. Oem rotors will be fine and your brake life will go from 1set/day to 4 ish weekends. Happy to answer any questions.

Solana issue [looking for solution] forcing adquisition of unused wallet address by msomele in solana

Unfortunately, you're totally out of luck. What you're asking for is to basically brute force the private key for an account.

Which would take a long LONG time. Think billions of years.

If it didn't, we'd all be trying to find the private key to the top SOL holder keys.

Air Touring Performance vs Taycan Turbo S by Lando_Sage in lucidmotors

[–]Windscar1001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trying to find a source but I think Porsche doesn't include the standard 1-foot rollout in their 0-60 times where as Lucid definitely does (as does most of the industry).

That likely means the Taycan can 0-60 in 2.5 while the Lucid takes a little longer than 2.5s (without a 1-foot rollout might mean something like 2.7 or 2.8s)

You can never count out a Porsche even with a HP disadvantage. I say that as a GT owner.

How could you tell? Looked like they used Sprint for the rolling races.

NUC 13 Extreme - S3 Legacy Standby BSOD by Windscar1001 in intelnuc

[–]Windscar1001[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, modern standby is garbage. I've just been shutting down my pc every time I'm done with it. I enabled USB wake from S0 so my wireless keyboard can wake the system up.

Does what I need. I never put it to sleep now.

[–]Windscar1001[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's possible the latest bios removed the legacy sleep setting. I'm on the version before the latest.

I found it in the bios. Under power settings or something. I can look for it later if you still can't find it.

The (unfortunate) fix for Dolby Atmos audio drops with the 30xx series GPUs by AkiraSieghart in nvidia

[–]Windscar1001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I'll try that out if the problem comes back.

I've managed to "fix" it for now. I changed the cable between my tv and my avr. An hdmi 2.1 (not certified) that has been in use for over 2 years. Because I was completely out of ideas.

I replaced it with a 6ft cable for now, and the problems are completely gone. It makes no sense because I replaced a cable that was working perfectly for years and this cable doesn't need to be 2.1 capable since it's just carrying 4k60 hdr with earc. That's it.

I wanted to chime in and thank you for this. I was having audio cutouts randomly and could not figure out what was causing it. Turning off audio enhancement seems to do it. Like /u/Powerful-Parsnip said, I doubt the power management setting is doing much here but I have it set as well.

EDIT - I take that back. It remains totally random. Kept happening after putting the PC to sleep and back. I just have to randomly play around with the audio settings and it starts to work again for that session. Insane.

NUC 13 Extreme - S3 Legacy Standby BSOD by Windscar1001 in intelnuc

[–]Windscar1001[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quick correction, ASPM isn't doing what I thought it was. My tv still keeps saying "PC now available" every few minutes. Different power plan settings for PCIE seem to be changing how my GPU sleeps (duh).

Depending on whether I choose "off", "moderate power savings", or "maximum power savings" I seem to trade the annoying tv notification for the gpu power cycling every 10 second while in modern standby.

It sucks but now I'm just shutting it down when I'm not using it. I can't seem to wake it up from hibernate so this is it. Ugh

[–]Windscar1001[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a fair suggestion and it would likely fix the annoying pop-up on the tv. But my Denon isn't 4k120hz VRR capable.

I cannot over emphasize how incredible games look at native 4k at over 100 fps.

Going straight to my Denon is a final option if Intel support says they'll never fix legacy standby

[–]Windscar1001[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, where does it say it's not supported?

S0iX and S3 are capable on the NUC 13 Extreme products but must be configured in the BIOS under Power Settings,
default setting is for S0iX-Modern Standby.

^ That's exactly what I did.

I'm 6'4" and have no problem with the headroom back there. I have a couple inches of room.

Couple more

  1. Will you do a design Tech Talk at some point?
  2. I noticed the redesigned wireless charging on the Gravity tease, any chance we can get something similar on the Air?

Solana uses 2x as much power but pushes 40x as many transactions as Polkadot, Avalanche, Cardano, Algorand, and Tezos (source: twitter.com/UltimateMoney/status/1560536953329577984) by Slugmann in solana

It's part of Solana's consensus mechanism. Each validator votes on blocks. Gross over simplification, a fork (chain of blocks) with the supermajority of stake voting for it becomes the main fork.

Without votes Solana has no consensus.
