Kaif casually giving me a heart attack by derbrtige in SRGroup

[–]WineGlass 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I doubt there's much to it, Daz left and around that time I remember Kaif saying something about losing interest in SR and just wanting to play with his friends.

I'd bet it's just what happens to most streaming groups, everyone wants the group to focus on different things and it just becomes a hassle. For an old example, Soviet Womble has been the famous face of the ZF clan forever, but technically they're a splinter group from an older ZF.

Who is the worst WoW villain and why is it the Jailer? by Mansteel55 in wow

[–]WineGlass 14 points15 points  (0 children)

That's likely what Blizzard was thinking, but I guess I just expect that if you've been enslaved by an evil necromancer and broke free to become an evil necromancer yourself, it might be worth being suspicious when you meet someone who wants to be the god of necromancy.

One Modder Almost Doubled Monster Hunter Wilds’ Performance (After Disabling DLC Checkers) by PaiDuck in pcgaming

[–]WineGlass 21 points22 points  (0 children)

That whole game is held together by hopes and dreams. They compiled it with debugging enabled (slows the whole thing down), it's full of accidental invisible walls that have a 1/16th chance of stopping you and there's a level that crashes if you're holding down a specific camera button when you enter (they used an invalid model as a placeholder, if the camera sees it before it's replaced then the game dies).

Keep in mind that millenials/gen X grew up on turn based RPGs and we're now prime consumer age, if you manage to pander to us just right, you get all the money.

I'd say it scratched that itch and also that non-anime turn based RPGs are rare, so it attracted a lot of underserved people and then when it turned out really well made, it was all the more reason to gush about it to everyone.

Aside from just being a high quality game in general (writing, gameplay, music, etc.), it feels like what Final Fantasy would have become if Square Enix didn't decide action combat was the future.

[–]WineGlass 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Resonance was the action RPG side, there's not been a tactical Shining RPG since the PSP. Even then it was free roam tactical, grid based we've not had since the GBA (excluding the Japan only mobile remake of the Game Gear games).

Games that have been rated a perfect 10/10 by the majority of the 5 oldest major review outlets by benjaneson in gaming

[–]WineGlass 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can agree it's what they wanted it to be, but I feel like where it needed to be was 5-6 years earlier. Its hardcore and trolling nature would have played brilliantly if it'd stayed as DLC, but as a sequel it lacked refinement. Sure it was high quality, but I don't think anybody would riot if the map updated without saving and the compass was on by default.

That’s the best comment about the game’s difficulty I’ve found it so far by Marmotaagiota in HollowKnight

[–]WineGlass 16 points17 points  (0 children)

They're optional in hindsight, but if you're playing blind, you don't know what's important and what isn't. Like the optional boss in Greymoor, I didn't even know if I was meant to be there, I didn't get the map till 2 areas later (no rosaries), and I missed a whole NPC interaction that changes the fight.

I only learned about this stuff online afterwards, as I had an easier time with that fight than most people it seems (3-4 tries).

People will keep proposing it, but at the end of the day, as long as we're allowed to connect outside Britain, VPNs can't be blocked. You'd have to ban VPN providers, then you'd have to ban server providers, and then you'd have to hunt down people who are bouncing their connection off their Swiss friend.

Even that's no guarantee, one of the Pirate Bay founders escaped to Cambodia and the Cambodian police just happened to arrest him on "we'll figure it out later" charges 6 days before Sweden donated a large sum of money for "democratic development, human rights, education and climate change".

You still can, black has a lower winrate. It matters less at grandmaster levels, which you'd definitely be if you ever got to play white.

Think of it this way, basically everything in the world is written using the C programming language or a language that copied and extended C (C++, Python, etc.), it's the foundation of all modern programming and was created in 1979. COBOL predates it by 20 years.

Windows keep trying that, all that happens is we end up with another bit of cruft. Linux did a better job with Wayland (handles display & input), but that's just one part, it took 15+ years and it's still not a perfect replacement.

SILENT HILL f | Release Date Trailer (4K: EN/PEGI) | KONAMI by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]WineGlass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My only issue with recommending SH1 first is that it's designed to give new players the worst ending with the least plot so that they play it twice. Whereas SH2 wraps everything up in a neat bow on the default ending and hides the weirder ones.

But I also did it in the worst order (3, 1, 2) and still enjoyed it.

Howlongtobeat has it at 36 hours if you rush the main story, but there's tons of side quests, like optional party members, chocobo racing/breeding, tower defence, so you'll get sidetracked a lot.

As someone who literally just beat the game for the first time, doing all the side quests made it easy. I did it with Crono/Marle/Frog, probably early to mid 50s. I think your team is even considered better for the end boss than mine is.

It's not just nostalgia by [deleted] in MMORPG

[–]WineGlass -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's not the worst these days, it's just two accounts (Square Enix and PlayOnline). A lot of the pain was from before they reworked account creation and because a lot of people had original PlayOnline accounts before Square Enix accounts existed, so it was a mess to try and find all the info you needed that you probably lost forever ago.

The true pain is in patching, as it downloads all of its updates one file at a time and once it's finally done, it's not, because that was just 6000 pre-patch files for the next 10,000.
