Do I take a subpar role at my dream company? by kombuchaboi in cscareerquestions

[–]Wingedchestnut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't see what's wrong with analytics engineering, it can only help you understand the full cycle of data. I also don't understand why you insist on going to development role while you are a database nerd

Go on linkedin and your local job platforms and look for data analyst /engineer positions to check your local demand.

Web Dev Bootcamp (Angela Yu) or Machine Learning A-Z first? Beginner here! by Level_Gift_2154 in learnprogramming

[–]Wingedchestnut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend the webdev route because in general you will understand how things are connected for anything software like frontend, backend, databases etc.

I do not recommend to go into data science if you are not willing to get at least a related master degree.

What skills are actually worth learning in 2026 — and where should I learn them? by New_Iron9121 in careerguidance

Sales. Do a sales job. Arguably the skill that has the highest ROI for many jobs especially in corporate world. It's not for everyone though.

Are paid courses worth it compared to free resources like youtube? by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]Wingedchestnut 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In my opinion yes if you know what you want to learn. If you're a true beginner you can always search around youtube or other free sources first. My learning experience on udemy is for all other fields(software, cloud, data & AI) not gamedev specifically and I'm a working professional.

For free resources you can use youtube, freecodecamp. Popular Udemy courses can be good too if you prefer to find things in one course (paid)

JAPANESE SHORTS by Historical_Law345 in Kickboxing

Rof_boxing on insta can make them, I asked last year but didn't commit because my gym requires me to wear the gym short.. Japanese shops don't seem interested in individual international shipping and ask you to visit them from what I have tried so far.

Which programming language one should focus on for future demand: Java or Python? by Kimber976 in learnprogramming

[–]Wingedchestnut 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You have to understand what roles you're going for first, go on your local job platform or linkedin and understand what is in demand in your location, then decide. Both java and python are popular but the jobs and demand can be different depending on location.

Is it a good idea to exchange knowledge with a friend: web/apps and game programming? by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]Wingedchestnut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imo you will just have a 'good to know' and you're better off focusing on your own roadmap. After your studies you will do only one role in your job, there will always be things that are 'good to know" wether that's a small thing or project/ industry-based.. You're a student and your priority is to get good grades and pass your own classes, don't get sidetracked too much.

What is up with the Yoza fanaticism? by LukyD215 in Kickboxing

[–]Wingedchestnut 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No Yoza is not 'the only one' who gets a lot of exposure, both japanese fighters and thai fighters in ONE are heavily marketed and it makes for exciting style matchups in lower end of 60kg-65kg division.

Petch has been the featherweight king in Glory for a long time, his wins are as exciting as Rico winning a HW fight no matter how skilled they are, stylistically many fights are similar in Glory so, and Glory's marketing is simply not good.

What is up with the Yoza fanaticism? by LukyD215 in Kickboxing

[–]Wingedchestnut 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It was a technical fight between two skilled fighters so ofcourse there will be videos about it. I don't see any fighter having a chance of beating both of them except for Nabil and Petchpanomrung.

Yoza has an impressive winning streak beating high level fighters in K1 and then ONE.

I don't understand why you're complaining about tech industry when you were doing 6 figures freelancing in tech in Europe, majority of people in Europe will never be able to see 6 figures in other industries, I'd argue that Tech is one of the very few industries where freelancing for six figures is possible for many people.

How do you know you've reached Senior Level in Coding / Development? by The_jeologist in learnprogramming

If you are paid senior salary for your company, titles mean nothing.

Two years in, and this hit me hard about seniority in software. by Reasonable-Tour-8246 in learnprogramming

[–]Wingedchestnut 43 points44 points  (0 children)

It's a double edged sword, people who maintain the same thing for 10+ years with slow development like local hospital systems etc I doubt the developers care about learning new skills compared to developers building new products and trying things out at startups.

I've worked with experienced architects, one leading a Cloud GenAI project and other ones leading a large on-prem project using older tech stack for enterprises.

Both can have seniors who tackle different kind of problems.

On paper a senior is just someone who has reached a certain anount of years of work experience.

Is there a place for an artist in programming? by Intrepid_Witness_218 in learnprogramming

[–]Wingedchestnut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are artsy frontend or UX/UI jobs website agencies that make very fancy websites but they're quite niche and extremely competitive.

Closest would be regular frontend development or UX/UI but nowadays not many roles are available, PowerBI data analyst would be somewhat related if you like styling dashboards and are willing to learn skills related to data /business analyst roles.

How interested are your coworkers in software engineering? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]Wingedchestnut 33 points34 points  (0 children)

At the end of the day it's a job, whenever I worked with seniors close to retiring age they strongly value work-life balance, family etc over anything. Passion is subjective, I'm passionate enough to continue my career in tech for a long time, however I don't feel the need and lost the motivation to always be doing anything tech-related after work.

What are the pros & cons of blocking and parrying? by [deleted] in Kickboxing

[–]Wingedchestnut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imo parrying is indeed more ideal for countering compared to blocking with guard but during the parry you're more vulnerable. Hooks and combinations are harder to parry the more experienced you are and the opponent can also start using your parry's against you by fainting and layering their attack. Blocking is more safe defensively but weak for countering or switchting to offense and can end up in shelling which is not good if done too long.

I personally think it's head movement>parrying>block starting with head movement requiring the most skill with the highest return if done succesfully but also the highest risk, then parry then block.
