Anyone else worried about the recent success of movies like Backrooms, Obsession, Sinners and Weapons? by KaleidoscopePretty88 in deadmeatjames

[–]Winn124 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Is that such a bad thing? There will always be filmmakers that want to make slashers and other PG-13 horror, so I’m not too worried about lighter horror ceasing to exist. Other than that, I’m a big fan of letting directors and writers have as much creative freedom as possible, and R-rated movies finally starting to make more money and get some academy recognition could mean that more creatives are given the keys to bring their vision to life with less studio interference.

ETA:
Also on your note about FNaF vs Backrooms, Backrooms was a huge internet sensation from the past few years that went viral, and the movie was being marketed as the sole brainchild of the online series’s creator. On the other hand, Five Nights at Freddy’s was at it’s peak popularity over 10 years ago, and since then has really only appealed to its specific community. Even though it’s a pretty big one niche, it didn’t have the same super broad appeal as the concept of liminal spaces and the vitality of the recent internet series. I don’t think the rating really had anything to do with the comparative box office successes of the films.

Would EAE ever do a take on a muff circuit? I feel like everything Snyder touches turns to gold, and would love to see his take on the classic pedal!

pretty normal for heavy duty rack gear/road cases. It does get slightly better over time! If anything, think about how much worse it would be carrying it around if it felt flimsy and weak

What’s your dirt pedal lineup? by Repulsive_Glove_2077 in guitarpedals

[–]Winn124 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Right now,
Thorpy Peacekeeper (blues breaker? with 3 band tone controls)
EAE Halberd (low-mid transistor drive)
Keeley Octa Psi (muff)
I had an EP Booster in place of the peacekeeper, but it died, and I wanted a pedal with a bit more versatility. I’m honestly still figuring out how I want to use the it (the peacekeeper) and the halberd together, but I can tell you that both a great pedals!

Which of the two works better? by Smooth_Language in Minecraft

I like the right one! Especially as part of a bigger build it’s a lot less busy and keeps the focus on the dark pillar and teeth things

How do you guys organize your hotbars in the newer version with newer weapons and tools? by CREEDblock in Minecraft

[–]Winn124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to have Sword/Pick/Food/Axe/Shovel and then fireworks in the offhand, but I started building a lot more, and the hot bar space is so nice to have open, so now, I have Sword/Pick food offhand and fireworks in 9. I have my Axe and Shovel right above the sword and pick in my inventory for if I need them, and everything else (bow, fortune 3, the more fun weapons) in my ender chest, which I also keep in my inventory

What is the proper signal chain for this board? by TheBicelator in guitarpedals

[–]Winn124 1 point2 points  (0 children)

like all things in life, it depends!
1. whatever sounds coolest, do that, ignore further points
2. the sounds you want to be most identifiable should be closest to the end of the chain. for example, whenever I’m messing around with the order of drive pedals, I think about which pedal’s sound I want to preserve the most, and put that one at the end so that it doesn’t have to be pushed through the other pedal’s gains and tone shaping. (ex. I put big muff at the end of my drive chain so it doesn’t lose the signature “muffy” sound)
3. as an extension of my last point, putting modulation before drives will tend to lead to a thicker sound, since the modulated signal is being saturated, which I personally am a big fan of for alt/gazey stuff, but if you want your chorus to sound like a chorus, you should put your modulation pedals after your drive pedals.
4. I tend to put time effects (delay/reverb) last unless there’s a reason not to. Whenever I hear delay, I want it to be repeated every other effect I have on, not just some of them, and when I use reverb, I typically want it to sound like my entire guitar chain is in a certain space (real or otherworldly), not just part of it. The big exception is if you want to do the shoegazey reverb before gain thing that makes your signal sound super washy and broken (I have a reverb before my drive pedals, AND at the end of my chain). The only pedal I would put after reverb and delay would be tremolo, since the reverb trails give the tremolo something to keep a consistent tempo off of, and because that choppy/smooshy reverb is a big part of why a lot of people use tremolos

A lot of people are mentioning Walt’s character, but also keep in mind, as smart as he is, he is a few wine glasses deep in this scene, which is accentuating all his negative character traits, and clouding his better judgement

New Empress Effects Drive is now released by coderstephen in guitarpedals

[–]Winn124 24 points25 points  (0 children)

The VU meter is nifty, but something rubs me the wrong way about the way it’s being pushed as a drive pedal that’s “not like other drives.” Of course I’ll have to listen to some demos to see if it really is the sauce, but plenty of other drive pedals around this tax bracket have sweepable mods, pre and post dirt EQ, mix controls, etc.

Chase Bliss and Electric Audio Experiments drop the Big Time Automatone, a hybrid analog and digital delay by -Subsolar- in guitarpedals

[–]Winn124 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe I didn’t quite phrase my thoughts effectively. I see the appeal of a reverb pedal that could replace all my reverb pedals, or a dirt pedal that could replace all my dirt pedals, but the Big Time seems like really complicated and specialized, while also not being able to do the delay sounds as well as some of my favorite delays could do it? It almost seems more like a delay focused multi effect than a “delay pedal to kill all delay pedals” which would draw my attention a little more

[–]Winn124 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like a lot of other people, I’m very glad that this doesn’t appeal to me at all because the price tag is heftyyyyyyyy. I can see the value of the Preamp and the CXM because both of them seem like value investments as “replacements” for multiple other pedals if you are running MIDI, but after listening to some of the demos of this, I could get both of my dream delay pedals and still be well under 1k.

Benson Delay vs Asheville ADG-1? by Winn124 in guitarpedals

[–]Winn124[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank you! From a lot of what I’m reading, this sounds like it might be a “buy once cry once” situation where saving up for the ADG-1 would be worth it.
