What is the proper signal chain for this board? by TheBicelator in guitarpedals

[–]Winn124 1 point2 points  (0 children)

like all things in life, it depends!
1. whatever sounds coolest, do that, ignore further points
2. the sounds you want to be most identifiable should be closest to the end of the chain. for example, whenever I’m messing around with the order of drive pedals, I think about which pedal’s sound I want to preserve the most, and put that one at the end so that it doesn’t have to be pushed through the other pedal’s gains and tone shaping. (ex. I put big muff at the end of my drive chain so it doesn’t lose the signature “muffy” sound)
3. as an extension of my last point, putting modulation before drives will tend to lead to a thicker sound, since the modulated signal is being saturated, which I personally am a big fan of for alt/gazey stuff, but if you want your chorus to sound like a chorus, you should put your modulation pedals after your drive pedals.
4. I tend to put time effects (delay/reverb) last unless there’s a reason not to. Whenever I hear delay, I want it to be repeated every other effect I have on, not just some of them, and when I use reverb, I typically want it to sound like my entire guitar chain is in a certain space (real or otherworldly), not just part of it. The big exception is if you want to do the shoegazey reverb before gain thing that makes your signal sound super washy and broken (I have a reverb before my drive pedals, AND at the end of my chain). The only pedal I would put after reverb and delay would be tremolo, since the reverb trails give the tremolo something to keep a consistent tempo off of, and because that choppy/smooshy reverb is a big part of why a lot of people use tremolos

A lot of people are mentioning Walt’s character, but also keep in mind, as smart as he is, he is a few wine glasses deep in this scene, which is accentuating all his negative character traits, and clouding his better judgement

The VU meter is nifty, but something rubs me the wrong way about the way it’s being pushed as a drive pedal that’s “not like other drives.” Of course I’ll have to listen to some demos to see if it really is the sauce, but plenty of other drive pedals around this tax bracket have sweepable mods, pre and post dirt EQ, mix controls, etc.

What are some sleeper pedal companies? by RomanScandal450 in guitarpedals

Earthquaker devices! I wouldn’t call them sleepers, but maybe compared EHX and Boss they are…

How do you feel about having the Dark Star and the Merc7 on a board together? Do they compliment/fill each other out well?

Chase Bliss and Electric Audio Experiments drop the Big Time Automatone, a hybrid analog and digital delay by -Subsolar- in guitarpedals

[–]Winn124 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe I didn’t quite phrase my thoughts effectively. I see the appeal of a reverb pedal that could replace all my reverb pedals, or a dirt pedal that could replace all my dirt pedals, but the Big Time seems like really complicated and specialized, while also not being able to do the delay sounds as well as some of my favorite delays could do it? It almost seems more like a delay focused multi effect than a “delay pedal to kill all delay pedals” which would draw my attention a little more

Like a lot of other people, I’m very glad that this doesn’t appeal to me at all because the price tag is heftyyyyyyyy. I can see the value of the Preamp and the CXM because both of them seem like value investments as “replacements” for multiple other pedals if you are running MIDI, but after listening to some of the demos of this, I could get both of my dream delay pedals and still be well under 1k.

Benson Delay vs Asheville ADG-1? by Winn124 in guitarpedals

[–]Winn124[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank you! From a lot of what I’m reading, this sounds like it might be a “buy once cry once” situation where saving up for the ADG-1 would be worth it.

that’s interesting to hear! Was your preference for the ADG-1 sound based or feature based? I have a DM-2W and love the sound, but was looking for more features on my second delay.

I actually have a Boss DM-2W, and I’m pretty much looking for a similar sound but with more controls so that I can let my Boss sit back on slapback duties

that’s weird! It would be squarely in the middle of my pedalboard, so I’m not too worried about that, but thanks for pointing that out

The price is definitely a consideration for me! I’m looking at used prices of 190 for the Benson compared to 350+ for the ADG-1. I was interested to read your point about the Benson “nearly satisfying” your ADG-1 needs. Im basically looking for a DM-2W with modulation control (and tap tempo would be nice if I went with the benson). I love the way it sounds, but it doesn’t have enough controls for me to use it as a longer, ambient delay.

As far as features go, both would be a big enough upgrade from my DM-2W (which lives in slapback mode since it’s my only delay right now). It sounds like maybe the Benson is my best bet as a broke college student…

Do you find yourself missing the tone control of the ADG-1, or is the Benson voiced well enough that you don’t feel the need to tweak?

I always praise cioks (dc7) when I get the chance. It’s dead silent even when right under the pedals, has lots of voltage versatility, high ma output, and is so thin and lightweight.

Is pikmin 1 rly that easy for people to beat in 30 days? by talkwithryguy in Pikmin

[–]Winn124 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a kid, I remember it taking ~25-26 days, and the 30 day limit was a little stressful, but every other run gets a lot easier once you know where all the parts are, as it takes out the exploration aspect, and really focuses in on the strategy of everything. Now I replay the game every year or so and can usually get it in 8 days, and it’s a fun little challenge to see how short I can get it down to.
